I'm just curious. What does your friend think 45 is doing or going to do that is so great? Maybe we just can't see it. LouieB

Good for him.. LouieB

Tom is a long time singer songwriter from Springfield, IL I have a few of his CDs that were given to me by a friend years ago and have seen him a time or two myself. When I saw this I was kind of surprised that they were working together. LouieB

Well that is absolutely ridiculous. That should be IN the library for people to take out and read. LouieB

February 4 at 1-4 PM central time my cohost John and I are playing two hours of music from John Zorn's Book of Angels book 2 on Classical and Beyond. If you like what Zorn does don't miss this. There is music from a whole ton of cool musicians on 16 CDs (out of a total of 30). We don't own them all but they veer into rock, jazz, improv, modern classical, ensemble, solo, etc. wnur.org or 89.3 in Chicago WNUR. LouieB

It looks like Dylan has gone into full Rod Stewart mode here. I have mixed feelings about all this, but I guess we have to take what we can get at this stage of his career. When are the reworkings of his early compositions going to done? (See the article about John Cale in the most recent New Yorker.) LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.

Forget Hamilton unless you are rich. I would pass on Shuga if you have only two stops. I have not been there personally, but know the guy and he is kind of a jerk. If you do ride share you can get places as well (Uber or Lyft). Daves is good and obviously I like Laurie's since I work there (if you come ask for me, although I work part time only.) Lincoln Square is like Wicker Park, but less intense. Absolutely go to the Art Institute, even if you are only a minor art fan. It's world class. Depending on your fatigue factor, give it three or four hours and don't expect to see even half. -
Well the first week has already gotten interesting. The flap over the attendance numbers seems rather small by comparison. LouieB

I thought so, thanks. If you only could go in the Loop this would be a place to go, but the other locations are much larger. Thanks again. Other ideas? LouieB -

If you go back through some of this thread you will find talk about record stores I think (didn't look myself.) Clearly the ability to get to record stores in the time you have is a factor since most of the good ones are outside of downtown anymore. The biggest player in town is Reckless Records with a store in Wicker Park and one in Lakeview. (Is there one downtown still?) They are the big boys in town and have the biggest selection in town.. I work at Laurie's Planet of Sound in Lincoln Square (Jeff's alleged favorite), which is smaller, but I like to think pretty good. Dusty Groove (Wi -

Why not post this link in my original thread so it doesn't get lost. Thanks. LouieB -
Totally agree, which is why progressives (whatever that means at this point) need to stop looking to Bernie Sanders to solve all the problems and realize this is a pitched battle that needs many many players, not all perfect, to win. These hearings only prove that there is going to be alot to undo in the coming years and it must be done by coalitions of people, not one person. LouieB

Love it. Keep it up. LouieB -
He sure was. There are plenty of young pols who could make some headway in the next four years (which is actually a long time). To pin our hopes on the same old same (really) olds is also a losing strategy. As we have discussed here many times, the leadership of the Democratic Party is pretty old. And its time to find the least jive person possible. It's time for the left to get real. This country is going to be in shock after even four years of Trump. No more bullshit, time for reality. No more goofy ass promises. We need a solid, realistic, set of proposals that can be accomplished an

What does that mean? I'm not suggesting waiting, I am suggesting some new approaches (and people) need to be added to the mix. I'm tired of the "if only Bernie had been elected" line. It's time for new blood; no more of these same old faces. LouieB

Maybe. I sort of remember Let's Fight having one,but its so long ago I may be mistaken. LouieB

Who will defeat him in 2020? Give it time. We need someone left moderate, younger, and currently unknown. Trump will certainly be a one term president. LouieB

Super good work on this site. I live in West Ridge and you did a great job on that. I am acquainted with the other neighborhoods as well and those seem comprehensive too. As I say in my thread, get off the beaten track and visit some of these neighborhoods rather than the usual hipster or youth ghettos most folks go to (although Andersonville kind of qualifies as this, but offers much more than Wicker Park or Lakeview.) Good work. LouieB -
Millionaire is pretty bad and Let's Fight is mostly a chance for a drum solo by Glenn, which is fun, but not much more. LouieB

What albums are you looking forward to this year?
LouieB replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Listening to it right now. Really good. LouieB -
So very long. At some point he is going to have to stop being offended by everything that he he hears. At some point he is going to have to do the actual job, which is run this fucking country's government. LouieB
