  1. I dunno. I always thought stubhub all on its own, regardless of who owns it, is illegal. but that's just me.
  2. I've been living in DC for about 10 years now and find the crowds at shows here to be fairly great. you gotta remember that Wolf Trap is pretty much a venue to host a dinner party at a rock show. I dunno, I am surprised that the show is 2 months away and people are already hating on the crowd. maybe go to the show, enjoy it, and then decide if the crowd is lame or not.
  3. Wilco usually plays the 9:30club when they are on the east coast, although small venues might be unrealistic... they do make for phenomenal shows. and i am pretty sure ticketmaster owns stubhub.
  4. I think everyone should keep in mind that the Strathmore seats less than 2,000, DC has a population of 600,000 not counting the 2 hour span of suburbs in all directions, and the venue has season ticket holders. it is very similar to when the band plays the 9:30club. unfortunately at such small venues, it is extremely difficult to get hands on tickets. myself and a friend both tried for tickets and got shut out, we expected it though. i have also never paid more than face value for a wilco ticket, have always bought my wilco tickets, have been shut out of ticket sales, and have never missed a l
  5. i absolutely adore Mavis Staples. She was a guest on Wait, Wait, Don't tell once and they cut a segment just to include more of her interview. she's absolutely precious. Jeff producing a Mavis Staples album....interesting.
  6. ummm, isn't there still the regular on sale this Saturday via ticketmaster? pre-sale is usually only 10% of the venue. (there's all sorts of chatter about such things in the Just a Fan section)
  7. I'm not surprised, the Strathmore is TINY. I saw Glenn do a solo show there and am pretty amazed there is going to be a full Wilco show. The main ticket sale day will sell out just as quickly.
  8. i am guessing they thought Whisky Tango Foxtrot would be confusing.
  9. Heard "You and I" in a Kohl's in Nanuet. I think someone is about to break-up with me because I pointed it out.
  10. me and the guys saw it this weekend. everyone enjoyed it. we also saw Sherlock Holmes. they thought avatar was better, i preferred Holmes. all in all a good movie, visually stunning, and 30 minutes in, i really did forget those creatures weren't real. my butt and legs did go numb for sitting in a cramped movie theater seat for so long.
  11. The only thing I know is it is the BEST game ever! I played it all the time in college. Sadly I don't have it now or others that would play. In all seriousness, I think it is a really great game and pretty much any game from the company that makes Settlers has never disappointed. I have played 3 other games by that company and have enjoyed them all. Settlers is my favorite though. There is strategy, the board changes, there is plenty of interaction with other players, opportunity for rivalry and alliances, and can be a lot of fun.
  12. huh. I just got this email from the 9:30club: Concert Fans Beware! There’s a train wreck about to happen and consumer groups say YOU will be the victim if the two most powerful corporate interests in the live concert business get their way. But you can help stop the merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation. The government needs to hear from music fans now. Tell the Department of Justice that you’re against these monopolies amassing illegal power over consumers, before it’s too late. antitrust.complaints@usdoj.gov As a concertgoer you have already felt the pain, and if Ticketmaster an
  13. I dunno, why would Def Leppard sign a deal to develop a cartoon about Def Leppard? I think there are enough stories of famous people being completely broke (didn't Aretha Franklin almost declare bankruptcy) that these reunion tours just scream "we need money" to me and have nothing to do with the music. I am such a cynic though, to me if it was about the music, they would have continued to develop and create their music, tour, etc even when it wasn't the popular thing to do.
  14. not to be mean or anything, but a wilco cartoon? really? just because you could doesn't mean you should. might just be me though.
  15. He was a key player in all the maneuvering in the bank system that made the sub-prime mortgage experiment possible, was part of the brain trust that put the banking system where it was when it imploded and then claimed he should be the one to fix it because he was such an insider. i dunno, i've been working on a pay cut for over 2 years now and lost all of my retirement benefits, have watched others lose their jobs, and others be at risk with their houses. I think the Bernanke hate is similar to any fat cats on wall street/big bank ceo hate that is out there. he helped get us into this mess an
  16. i think the ribbons count as decorations, .
  17. Bernie Sanders is going to "place a hold on the nomination, a procedural move that means Bernanke will need 60 votes to be confirmed." and according to the Washington Post "The timing will be tight. The Senate returns to session Jan. 19, and if Bernanke is not confirmed by Jan. 31, then Fed Vice Chairman Donald Kohn would take over as acting chairman, though Bernanke could remain on the Fed board of governors pending confirmation."
  18. maybe it is Time magazine's way of saying "thanks for effing everything up Ben." - additional note: his confirmation for a 2nd year term just cleared committee and is now going to the full senate for a vote.
  19. i'd bet the main reason they're doing this is that they need paychecks period. not necessarily hefty ones.
  20. isn't he at risk of losing his job? i remember reading about some congressional hearing recently where he was having to justify keeping his job. Time magazine=lame.
  21. just finished Poseidon's Steed (all about Seahorses). started this, a friend suggested it, so far I have found, as hard as the author tries, there's still some underlying sexism running through it...which is ironic because part of the point of the book is to not do that:
  22. I also agree, except substitute "bull black nova" for "one wing" and I am nervous about the next one.
  23. nerfherder. i don't think he is on VC all that much these days.
