  1. I have Stargazer since I purchased the 2 CDs anthology. That's great Mellow Candle, isn't it? I'm getting into all the British Folk and folk-rock movement currently. I'm also anticipating Mr Fox, and some Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, etc, in the mail. I liked everything so far, with a weakness for Shirley Collins.
  2. Let's take another example: Ryan Adams. Now that's nothing compared to Jim Morrison.
  3. "he was always an asshole and never talented" That's the conclusion of the guy, Lammycat. The fact that Jim was an asshole or not is hardly a musical opinion, and it's a mistake to judge an artist that way. And to deny the fact he was talented is also a mistake, whether you consider an opinion is subjective or not. He had talent. Without him the Doors would have been nothing. He gave substance to their music, by his voice, his presence, his human being, whether he was an asshole or not, and whether his lyrics were weak or not. If anybody could do what he did, he would have remained perfectly
  4. That's total bullshit. The Doors had a great sound, and Jim Morrison was a charismatic singer and showman. Listen to Morrison Hotel again. I'm not with those who think he was a genius, but falling in the opposite way is more unfair again.
  5. I find that Betty Davis cover pretty cool. The White Ladder one, on the other hand... NP: Shirley & Dolly Collins, Anthems In Eden (1969)
  6. It's her masterpiece. Now playing: Mellow Candle - Swaddling Songs (1972)
  7. John Martyn - Bless the Weather (1971)
  8. I went to hear a bit all of these recommendations and I was *really* impressed with every one of them, with the exception of Panda Bear. Next time I look for new great music to hear, I'll ask Jeff Tweedy. You know, that doesn't happen that often, to agree with one's every recommendation. So I purchased all that (but replace Panda Bear with the first Dr Dog record - possibly the band that impressed me the most in the bunch, so I bought their two CDs) For the Hawk and a Hacksaw, I chose another one (the Way the Wind Blows) - from what I've read everywhere else, it's their best.
  9. Looks like he would love my pseudo
  10. Doctor Blind : wow Crowd Surf Off a Cliff : wow Mostly Waving : wow Emily Haines, Metric's lead singer and one of Broken Social Scene members at times, offered her best work to date here. She has great music in her, you know, as great as Jeff Tweedy's one.
  11. With each Wilco album you always have a few stinky nay-sayers as well. Same happened with every previous album, and will happen with every next one.
  12. A really good record, isn't it? She's never been so good since Goodnight Nobody (the previous album)
  13. That doesn't sound obvious to me. Could you elaborate?
  14. I pretty agree with everything you say, but you forget some Wilco points The Band didn't have: original melodies. The Band were more in the classic roots for the most part, when Tweedy and the band have a more melodic approach (close to the Beatles or the Velvet Underground, or Big Star or the Soft Machine), and more experimental tones that take part of the Beauty they create. I think the sense of greatness you give to the Band is tied to the "timeless classics" they wrote, whereas it's not the first target of Wilco, who are closer to psychedelia. Tweedy is more personal lyrically, I don't get
  15. Don't know. I was talking of other boards, not Wilco ones. In that case, I was thinking of a general music board where two guys, who usually like Wilco, said that SBS was weak and mainstream, and a waste of time for a talent such as Nels Cline. And I can't help but think it's absolutely stupid to say that. Jesus Christ, who needs to be "demonstrative" to make fine music. It's the opposite actually! Wilco never sounded as good, they even remind me of The Band sometime on SBS, which is saying a lot.
  16. I personally love it as much as the others since Being There. But I noticed on other boards that some people think it's weak and more mainstream, which sounds absolutely stupid to me, since Wilco never played so well. I wish people had ears finally in this world, for God sake. As someone perfectly stated around here, SBS is a "masterpiece of understatement".
