  1. My Lu Top can change at times, so it goes like this: 1. Lucinda Williams/Car Wheels on a Gravel Road/West/Essence/Sweet Old World 2. Happy Woman Blues/World Without Tears 3. Ramblin' 4. Live at the Fillmore The Fillmore being easily the worst of Lu catalog, and one of the worst live albums ever minus this one, any of her album is certainly less boring than every album by The National...
  2. Thanks for your answer. I may have to give it another chance. So far I throw the record by the window each time I hear him drinking his cup of coffee in the first second of the first track. Tell me about an unbearable introduction.
  3. what do you like about this album? (I'd love to understand...)
  4. 10 Best Albums of the Year: Lucinda Williams - West Nina Nastasia & Jim White - You Follow Me Plastiscines - LP 1 Rachel Ries - Without a Bird Kristin Hersh - Learn to Sing like a Star Julie Doiron - Woke Myself Up Mary Weiss - Dangerous Game The Roches - Moonswept Jenifer Jackson - The Outskirts of a Giant Town Daphn
  5. I agree with the creative genius for every phase of the Fab's career, but not in the terms you mention. There were more original and thought provoking bands and artists than the Beatles (Velvet Underground, Kinks, Captain Beefheart, Soft Machine, Bob Dylan, etc). The Beatles were the most entertaining and creative at once: I would agree better with that.
  6. Well, simply stated, Joe Pisapia's Daydreams was my favorite album of 2002. I told everyone about it as often as I could. And I asked Joe several times when the hell he will release a new one. But he was too busy touring with Guster, I think. He's a fine, sensitive producer. He's got the gift of a painter for sounds and music. That's what Daydreams is. Musical painting. Among the finest, most subtle tunes and harmonies and sounds I heard in the latest years.
  7. The thing is that indie rock may suck, most of the time - at least to my ears When it's good it's really good, but when it's not, it's the most boring music ever - imho
  8. ever interested in new artists?
  9. 9 pages to say the new Neil Young record sucks. That's how you recognize a rock legend.
  10. Wow! One of the best girl groups ever! (Love is like a) Heat Wave
  11. The Ronettes The Shangri-Las Townes Van Zandt Ron Sexsmith Lucinda Williams Jenifer Jackson Jill Sobule Bobbie Gentry Steve Young Loudon Wainwright III Charlie Parker Rachel Ries Niobe The Beatles The Velvet Underground The Kinks Lightnin' Hopkins Blind Willie McTell Anne Briggs Skeeter Davis and 200 others My list could change each week
  12. Anyone give me a more perfect vocal performance than the one of Aretha on "Baby, Baby, Baby" - thank you. I've yet to find a contender.
  13. I have his first album where, beside his amazing guitar playing ("Smokey River"!), you find a song that is a classic: "Needle of Death". It inspired Neil Young for another famous song, and I'm sure y'all guess which one. I love Pentangle. I have their second album, Sweet Child, double CD. A delight. and no relation with Jansch, but I LOVE Fairport Convention as well, especially the songs by (or sung by) Sandy Denny. My favourite is Unhalfbricking.
  14. We seem to agree that All Things Must Pass, Plastic Ono Band and Ram are their respective best work. Now I think POB has something more than the two others, as Lennon had something more in the Beatles already. To me, Lennon wasn't only a musician. He was a sensitive guy who had something to say, and feelings to share. He didn't find his emotions from the music, but found the music from his emotions. That's the difference. I always felt like it anyway.
  15. No use to mention "Revolution 9" since it's not even a song. Don't Pass Me By. I think everybody can write a song like that. And also that not everybody would dare to. I also think The Fool on the Hill is a great melody.
  16. Yeah, just keep Something, Here Comes the Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps - oh, and I like Old Brown Shoe, too, and The Inner Light... That's pretty much all... oh, and I Want to Tell You is cool, as well But do you know how many songs John and Paul wrote, in comparison? Actually Harrison wrote the two best songs of Abbey Road (with John's "Come Together", ok), but that's it I like George's style when it's good, but he was less creative than John and Paul
  17. Pffff.... The first, of course; the most exciting and memorable, by far... I love Rubber Soul, though (but not MMT)
  18. Well, if you only know Sgt. Pepper, I get your point. Actually, I think this album is one of their most boring. Really. Give me "A Hard Day's Night" anyday.
  19. My theory is that the Kinks were too intelligent to be widely successful. The difference between them and other legendary bands, is that the Kinks don't leave much stuff gross enough to please the least idiot on Earth. mmmh, am I sounding a bit arrogant here?
  20. Harrison, 21 votes???? This must be a joke. A George fan called all his friends from the George board to vote here. Or George became a God since his death (like John). Am I the only normal person here thinking John & Paul were at least far ahead of George? Well, not that all that is really interesting...
  21. "Please Please Me", "From Me To You", "She Loves You", "I Want to Hold Your Hand"... all that, is especially great.
