  1. One of my favorite places to dine in San Francisco is Greens. It is a vegetarian restaurant, but non-veggie's will love it too. It also has some great views of the Marina, Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin headlands. I always thought the Musee Mechanique was cool, with all its old arcade/carnival machines. It used to be under the Cliff House but I think it has moved to Fisherman's Wharf now.
  2. I'm not so sure about that. Even as a really young kid I loved Dylan. Back then I didn't know anything about poetic lyrics, or even cared, or even paid attention to such details. I just found his songs to be catchy with nice melodies that stuck with me. I think Dylan's lyrical contributions often outweigh his musical ones in a lot of peoples minds, but it's the way the whole thing comes out of those speakers that makes the impact. If he didn't have the chords and melodies backing up the songs they wouldn't be nearly as affective. I'll give you this, Mr. Tweedy's musical structures and arr
  3. I'm pretty sure Jeff would vote for Dylan too. Dylan vs. every rock/pop songwriter of the past 40 years winner: Dylan
  4. I've listened to this a couple times and I think it sorta goes like this: E-------------------------------------------------------- B----4---------------2-----------------0----------0----- G--------4---------------1-----------------1---1------- D-----------4---------------2------1------------------- A----2---------------0-------------2------------------- E------------------------------------------------0------- Chords: B - x2444x Amaj7 - x02120 G#m - x2110x (or alternately) B - 7644xx E - 022100 Hope that helps out somewhat.
  5. My favorite Dylan records constantly changes, but it often goes something like this: Bringing It All Back Home Blonde on Blonde Blood on the Tracks John Wesley Harding Highway 61 Revisited Nashville Skyline
  6. Separation Sunday is still my favorite and is the one I return to the most. For my money that one has the best songwriting and is the most cohesive as a whole.
  7. ^ You listening to 5 discs at once PopTodd? Are you conducting some kind of Flaming Lips parking lot experiment or something? NP:
  8. The musician in me loves reading this kind of stuff, especially when it's an artist I respect. Though I must admit that reading about modern recordings in general leaves me cold. Everything seems so calculated and cerebral these days. I miss the days of massive microphone bleeding, and limited number of tracks, and no cutting and pasting, or drum loops, and people just going for a feel and sound without spending weeks on drum and guitar sounds. The technology has certainly improved but the records haven't for the most part.
  9. Sounds good, that's how I do it too . Four songs in: I like what you're doing here so far. Nice atmosphere, and I like that the songs aren't structured in a predictable format. Also like that you didn't over do the production with too many layers. I'll say more once I've listened a bit more...
  10. I'm downloading right now and will definitely give it a listen this week. Thanks for sharing your work. I know I haven't heard it yet but I was just wondering if this is something you recorded by yourself or with a band.
  11. I kinda miss Royal City. I'm with you lizish, that last one was hard to get into. It definitely didn't click with me as much as "Alone at the Microphone" or "At Rush Hour the Cars.' I really should give it another chance.
  12. ^ I just picked up Comic Book Confidential from the library yesterday . Anyway, watched this teeth-rattling thriller tonight:
  13. Nice! Probably my favorite Todd studio disc.
  14. I think it's threads like this that inspired Jeff to say (paraphrasing) "People, get away from your computers, do something else..." If we got rid of all these self-indulgent threads we'd have a lot less posting to do and we'd have to do something else .
  15. I quite liked Communion but haven't seen the film. I will have to look for that.
  16. I have that one too but haven't watched it yet. Instead of watching something good like that, I decided to watch this last night: Hearing George Burns sing "Fixing a Hole" almost makes it worth it though . The overacting--especially those facial expressions--of the BeeGees and Peter Frampton almost make Madonna look like a good actor.
  17. Fred Neil - Tear Down the Walls/Bleecker & MacDougal
  18. Thanks a lot MKHstudios, it is very appreciated .
  19. I have a few combos here and have watched all of them once. I can't think of any I've revisited for a second or third viewing though. I think because they're not in standard DVD cases on my shelf, I tend to forget they're even there. I should really go through my CD racks and refresh my memory on what CDs came with DVDs.
  20. I was a bit concerned when they had Jim & Pam hook up so quickly in the series. This is the kinda of stuff usually reserved for season 6 or 7 when a show is usually in decline anyway. I can see it now: the inevitable proposal, break-up and reunion story arcs are going to be coming in the next few seasons.
