You're taking me back to the days of the New Music on CityTV. That was a good show for quite a few years. -

Thanks for the link. It's always nice to read articles by songwriters you like . -
You don't need to buy a 12-string set, just get something like this: D\'Addario EJ38H High Strung/Nashville Tuning Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings .010-.027 Nashville tuning can sound quite good and inspire some new songs. It's definitely not kitsch. Check out the Stones' "Wild Horses" for a good example of the tuning. Johnny Marr and David Gilmour have also used it to good effect. I'm pretty sure Paul Westerberg used it on It's a Wonderful Lie as well.

I've never been a huge Petty fan but this doc is giving me some newfound respect for the guy. He really has written a lot of great songs and he must be commended for maintaining his integrity through all the record company woes that came his way.

I saw him on some show the other day and heard about this new one . He's one of the wittiest songwriters ever so any new work is most welcome with me.

the first time you heard your favourite artists music..?
GtrPlyr replied to froggie's topic in Someone Else's Song
I have a lot of favourite artists so I will stick with a few: The Replacements - A friend bought Let It Be at a record store after a store clerk recommended it. I think my friend was impressed more by song titles such as Gary's Got a Boner than any musical attributes the record may have. We listened to it and I recall liking it. We listened to a lot of stuff in those days though, so the band sort of slipped from my view for a while. A few years went by when I spotted CD copies of Let It Be and Tim at a record store in Buffalo. Well I got those home and something clicked, I was going to be a -
You're right, it was written by a Japanese musician named Maher Shalal Hash Baz. You can hear his version here: http://hypem.com/track/543823/Maher+Shalal...+Baz-Open+Field

I first heard the MP3 version of this a few months back. First listen through revealed some standout tracks, but I wasn't blown away. By the 2nd or 3rd though, I was loving it almost as much as the last one. The sound of the MP3s weren't all that great so I decided to give it a rest until the CD was released. Picked up the CD when it came out and have been spinning it on a consistent basis: once, sometimes twice a day. There's something about Dave's voice, music and lyrics that just work for me. Listening to his records is like hanging out with a cool friend that likes good music and tells s

I still have a bunch of Baseball cards from the late 70s, early 80s. Unfortunately I didn't collect them as avidly as hockey cards so I don't have any complete sets like I do with Hockey. When I was a kid we would line up a row of cards along a wall like bowling pins and flick other cards at them. The kid that knocked over the most cards got to keep them. If we only knew how much those cards would be worth someday we probably wouldn't have treated them so badly. I think the most valuable card I have is a Wayne Gretzky rookie card. Not sure what's it worth these days, but years ago it was

I love that the CD comes up with a chord chart so you can strum along with Dave. Nice touch!

Just started this one today:

I've had a few bootlegs of this material over the years so it was great to finally get a proper release. Overall I'm quite happy with the whole package: wonderful sound and liner notes. The one misstep is the inclusion of the Taylor Hawkins cover like Joss mentioned. Cover songs like this should be left for tribute records. Not a big deal, just a slight annoyance. And talking about price, I picked this up at an indie for $24.99 Canadian.

I always liked her, especially in Singin' in the Rain and The Band Wagon.

They've had topless women in their stage shows in the past. This isn't exactly anything new.

Short and sweet. There's some nice footage of Robyn working through some new songs in his garden as a bonus.
