I quite like Os Mutantes, especially their late 60s early 70s stuff. Like Louie B., Gilberto Gil is a favorite, as well as some of Caetano Veloso's stuff.

If you're looking for a good selection of foreign films, here's a few to check out (all are better than Demonoid as far as I'm concerned): http://cinematik.net/ http://asiandvdclub.org/index.php http://www.bithq.org/index.php http://karagarga.net/

That was one of my favorite films at the Toronto Film Fest and it's definitely in my top 5 of the year. I think it might be my favorite Coen Brothers film, okay 2nd behind Fargo, but that's a tough one to beat. This one was a nice return to the film noir elements of Blood Simple, with excellent mood and suspense throughout the film. I really thought that Javier Bardem was great in it, I hope he gets an Oscar nom.

40. At least they had a Replacements question in there. It's too bad it was surrounded by Debarge and other such nonsense .

C.A. Quintet - Trip Thru Hell (great record for this cold and rainy day)

I haven't seen it yet. I'm still trying to erase the memory of his Victoria's Secret ad from my mind.
-
Paul Westerberg Wilco Prince Radiohead I don't see nearly as many shows as I should anymore.
-
Probably my favorite T.Rex disc.

The Daniel Johnston doc is one of the better music docs of late. I would definitely recommend it too. You can download Wilco's version of his song from here http://www.owlandbear.com/2007/04/24/hoste...les-1994-2002//

I thought that was fairly common knowledge. I'm sure it is around these parts . Some great ones mentioned already. I'll add: Nico "These Days" (Jackson Browne) Wilco "True Love Will Find You in the End" (Daniel Johnston) Emmylou Harris "Just about everything on Wrecking Ball for starters"

It's good to see somebody else picked the Rickie Lee Jones disc. That seems to be one of the most overlooked records of the year. I thought of the Lucinda record but couldn't remember if it came out this year. It wouldn't make my top 5, but definitely top 20.

It's definitely a b-movie, and the acting is quite laughable at times, but it still works for me overall due to its idiosyncratic style and overall tone. Herk creates a bizarre and alienated world for the lead character. His use of B&W cinematography and organ music helps to heighten this mood. It isn't all that scary, but it does have some elements of creepiness to it, especially the girls lecherous neighbor who is much creepier than the dead people as far as I'm concerned. I guess the problem with this film is that it has been praised too much, so people expect more than they should.

I hear Dog's new gig is to replace this guy: From Bounty hunter to Bounty stacker. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

That's just the way it is. Some things will never change...

I haven't listened to them much since Dookie. The songs I heard from American Idiot didn't sound all that inspired or original, just some banal observations about the current situation in America with a slick pop rock backing. I still can't figure out what all the hype was about.

Musiscians Inspiration - Joni Mitchell
GtrPlyr replied to jennyluvmusic's topic in Someone Else's Song
Her latest album is okay, but I'm waiting for the upcoming album of Happy Days covers called Joni Loves Chachi. I think that's going to be the one that will put her back in the spotlight. and to go along with the above comments: Judas! -
Huh, I figured they already were on strike, and for quite sometime too by the looks of things.

Continuing with the Halloween theme, last night it was:
-
Firefly was my favorite Whedon show hands down. Buffy was pretty good too (never watched Angel.) I will definitely have to check this one out.

Last nights Halloween treat of paranoia and madness:
-
A few nights ago it was I Walked With a Zombie, the other night it was this one: It was nice to watch this again. I love the colors that Argento used, and the great music. Those terrifying and sometimes gruesome scenes don't hurt the cause either. This one has a definite European flair, definitely more arty than most American horror films.
-
I watched Suspiria the other night. The use of color and music in that one is really great: really sets the tone for the whole film. Argento's Deep Red is also quite good. Here's some other horror/thriller favorites: Don't Look Now Rosemary's Baby The Tenant Repulsion Carnival of Souls The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Peeping Tom Nosferatu Les Diaboliques Les Yeux Sans Visage Dawn of the Dead The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Black Sunday The Exorcist Kwaidan Halloween The Haunting Near Dark Onibaba Jigoku The Vanishing... I wish I could watch them all again over Halloween, but I guess I'll have to

I bought that one years ago while it was still in print thankfully. I actually put that album on a lossless music site a year or two ago as it was out-of-print and all. I'm not sure, but it might still be available there (it's the one that starts with an Ex---.) I don't think invites are open there right now due to the crack down on such things, but if you're on there already I can always re-upload it if it's dead.

I've only walked out a couple times, and both were at the Toronto Film Fest. You see 30-40 films in 10 days and you're bound to see one or two that don't work for you. This year it was Peter Greenaway's Nightwatch. It was a visually beautiful film, but other than that it had little going for it. Plus we were hungry and needed a break from all the films.
