Labor Day Music: songs about work and workers
okp greg replied to gogo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Dear Employer? -
Curse you, I can't find this anywhere yet!
-
One song that definitely gives it a run for its money, imo, is Light Pollution. I just love the story in that song too, and the end is awesome.
-
It's been a while and nothing's surfaced, anyone have any word on a recording of this show? I know I saw at least 2 mic stands there that night! It's the only Wilco show I've seen that I don't have a recording of, and from what I remember it was one of my favorites.

An open letter to all you bug squishers

You get used to things much worse than that rather quickly in New Mexico. I had a black widow living in my storage shed. I contemplated killing it but I pictured the process going horribly wrong, me missing it with my shoe, losing my balance over my lawn mower, falling, pulling the web and spider down with me, and dying a horrible death as the spider exacts its revenge on me. Needless to say we agreed to disagree and coexisted peacefully. -
Agreed. Not sure about best, but damn damn good. So good I don't mind singing about a little kid dying from cancer at the top of my lungs and dancing.

They don't get answered, they just get confused.
-
Oh yeah, Ænema has always been a favorite of mine too.
-
You know those songs you just put on repeat when you are too fed up with everything? The ones that make you think M. Ward was right when he said "why burn your bridges when you can blow your bridges up?" Currently I can't get enough of The Mountain Goats - No Children. Modest Mouse - The View is another one that comes to mind.

Here are a couple from my most recent road trip: Sunset at White Sands, NM My friend at White Sands on full moon night. Arches National Park The arch from the other side.

Monsters of Folk (James, Oberst & Ward)
okp greg replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
A great gateway into M. Ward would be "Transfiguration of Vincent" -
Okay, I'm gonna throw it out there. I didn't expect Sufjan to get all 50 state albums done, but isn't anyone else disappointed that he seems to have stopped after only 2?!?! Should be a good show though. I saw him in the Illinois tour back in the day and they were entertaining.

Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.) sounds like an Evil Urges b-side -
I've been saying they should've been on stage together this whole mini tour. Damn them for doing it at a show I wasn't at! Lol, but it does sound awesome & i'm looking forward to hearing it too!

That was at Max's on Main St. and, unfortunately, it didn't actually exist The owner just knew enough about wilco to put that on the sign to lure us in
-
That was definitely random to see on the setlist! Misunderstood/spiders is a pretty awesome 1-2 punch too.
-
Thanks! I love local suggestions so I think Max's it'll be. Accuweather says we're good, weather channel says 10% chance of rain, NOAA says mostly clear.
-
Lowell, MA was 7 for Conor, then Wilco between 8:30 & 8:45.
-
I could definitely get behind this idea.
-
Does anyone know anywhere nearby to grab some food before they show? Also, how limited is parking around the venue?
-
thanks to everyone posting the daily songs and saving us the terrible ordeal of dealing with the writer's comments. Also, it's a bit interesting to think about the fact that the writer may well stumble across this post during his top 20 listing, and what impact that may have if he did.

Haha. But seriously. I quit in January and they've already gone up a dollar since then. I'm pretty indifferent to the rising costs now, but during the course of smoking I switched from a brand I liked more, American Spirits, to a cheaper brand, camels. God it's felt great actually breathing for the last six months.

I was looking at that today too after Lowell last saturday. Hopefully it'll hold out.
