  1. NZ Herald review: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/ne...jectid=10550623
  2. I found this thread on the Frenz forum - I'd love for any VCers to supply more details! http://frenzforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7...1655#2911001655 Am I reading that correctly? Jeff did "Fake Plastic Trees?" Holy shit. Also, I've wanted to hear Neil do "Throw Your Arms Around Me" since I first heard a random solo version from 1998. Sounds like it was a great night.
  3. Oh yeah. Finally getting around to this one I bought in Auckland last year. Also just started: My first Faulkner.
  4. I read 77, counting children's books and rereads. So we probably had a very similar total. I just keep a list that I update when I finish a book. I do use Facebook's visual bookshelf, but sometimes I read a book that isn't found ... or a book I don't want to publicly admit I just read. (Until the end of the year, apparently.)
  5. Did he have any older siblings? I read the book a few years ago, but have forgotten the details. As someone with older sisters, though, I do know that can dramatically affect your taste in (and awareness of) music. Not necessarily in a good way. My sisters were way into heavy metal. I just finished up my "read in 2008" tallies. It turns out I read a lot of books - even though I know that for at least a solid month I didn't pick up any reading material. How many books do people usually read in a year?
  6. I love that this is the first thing that came to mind ... and it doesn't even fit a romantic breakup. More like an acrimoniously ended friendship. But "Dre Day" got me through some pissed off days in the 7th grade. Ha! I'll try to think of something more fitting.
  7. I looked back at the Des Moines Val Air thread from March and it turns out I answered my own question about that one - the full film crew wasn't there, but there was one guy with a video camera. From my perspective, the email from Wilcoworld didn't really tell us anything new about the album. I'm excited about a new release, but we already knew it was supposed to be coming in the spring. It was nice to hear that's still the plan. The news about a DVD coming in the next couple of months, however, was 100% shiny new information.
  8. I remember hearing that the film crew was at the 9:30 Club shows in late February, too. And Tipitina's. Maybe the did all of the shows from DC through Cain's. (Which, looking at setlists, still wouldn't include Ashes.) Looking through those shows on Wilcobase did remind me that the setlists in the wake of the residency were just ridiculous, though. That was such a fun time.
  9. I should check this out. They actually opened for Wilco once in Mpls.
  10. Well, sometimes people do. I've only seen the "before the show, in line" thing happen at the Vic.
  11. Moved. And as another Mac user without Boot Camp, I'm interested in the responses.
  12. I had some of the same thoughts when I saw that the most expensive deluxe edition is $96. I think it's unnecessary ... but then again, I'm not going to buy it, so ultimately I don't care that much. I'll probably spring for one of the "not quite so deluxe" editions. I, too, am excited about this album. I know it's always dangerous to put too much stock in one-sentence characterizations, but I'm particularly interested in "heaving electro-rocker" and "punk-y Pixies/Buzzcocks homage." And the Eno birdsong, although "stately" doesn't excite me much. We'll see, I suppose!
  13. Bon Iver covered "Your Love" by The Outfield tonight. Did not see that one coming! (I'm glad I hadn't checked out that video link above beforehand.) What a terrific show. And The Tallest Man on Earth was great, too. Tamala has the setlist; maybe she'll have a chance to start an After the Show thread sometime this weekend. The new songs are really good - I bought the vinyl.
  14. Hey, sounds like a potential plan, Matt! Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but if you're checking in... I think Tamala and Rob are still planning to come, and I hope we can all eat together.
  15. I question whether "flock" is the proper term for a group of unicorns. I always thought it was something like "a rainbow of unicorns."
  16. Yeah, I was talking specifically about the new songs played at Bridge School. Maybe Ryan can chime in.
  17. FYI, the links to MP3s of the new songs from bridge school that were up at Muzzle of Bees at one point were removed by request of the label. I'm not sure what's different about this compared to the usual trading of songs, but let's not post any links that people might have here. Further discussions could be carried out via PM. Thanks!
  18. What a great tour ending! Thanks for the updates, P. Glenn can take a little bit of credit for Spencer's drumming skills, right? What a great experience for him. (Spencer.) These songs of Neil's ... new new songs? [quote name='bb
  19. They did play together at Bridge School - Neil played with almost everyone there.
  20. I'll ask around, Kyle. Hope to see you there!
