Last.fm tool: How eclectic is your musical style?
Preferred B replied to rghammo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I scored a 78. As you can see from the graph of the past year, I don't listen to most of my music on the computer. There are gaps, but it's still pretty cool: -
Well, holy shit. And to think I almost turned it off when it was 7-0. I mean, who would do that?
-
A very interesting - and somewhat scary - read about electronic voting machines, from January: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/magazine...be6&ei=5070

I think a lot of people are curious about these.

It annoyed me a little when Obama would laugh at comments McCain made, but at least it seemed like genuine frustration and not purely a calculated "allow me to laugh, so that I may showcase how ridiculous I find your statement" move. And yeah, much less disturbing than the anger on the other side of the split screen while Obama spoke. One of my favorite McCain reactions last night was his ultra campy "shock" when Obama said that the healthcare-related fine for good ol' Joe Plumber would be $0. He must have held that pose for at least ten seconds.

The latest Ryan Adams thread
Preferred B replied to Duck-Billed Catechist's topic in Someone Else's Song
I like Easy Tiger a lot. Top thing that bothers me, though: Ryan's pronunciation of etc. Cringe! And it's repeated so often. I haven't listened to the new one all the way through yet. -
Sounds amazing, Kyle. I concur about the streaming set from Farm Aid (I saw the one a couple years back) blowing my mind. I'm not going to get to any of his proper shows on this tour, but I will see him (from kind of crappy seats) acoustic at Bridge School next weekend. No ZZ Top, though, so I may not go after all.

From that link I become ISTJ ... and the I vs. E is exactly 50-50.
-
Another INTJ. All moderate, I think. Yes. Yes, too. Except that's expanded across four bookcases. I have one entirely devoted to children's literature. Anyone else keep a running list of gift ideas for Christmas and birthdays that they constantly update throughout the year?

Isn't it time for a new election thread?!
Preferred B replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
You really think that nobody here who agrees that people who make over $250,000 should pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes could possibly be even moderately successful? Or might be in or know someone in that tax bracket? Or be or know someone who is retired? I guess the fundamental thing I'm not understanding here: many people who object to this concept are implying that a 26% or 27% income tax rate is going to take people with high incomes right down to middle class living standards. -
Happy birthday, Alison!

VC Book Club: The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
Preferred B replied to gogo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I also read this a few months ago and look forward to the discussion. -
Right now: I bought it in Alaska this summer, and I'm just getting around to it. It took me a little while to warm up, but I'm enjoying it now. On deck: I spotted it tonight on the new nonfiction shelf at the library and nearly did a spontaneous dance of glee. Speaking of L.M. Montgomery, I didn't know this. Sad.

I've seen them in bookstores, but I never saw ones specifically about my hometown ... until I looked at that site. And there are so many more, in general, than I'd seen before. Oh my. Christmas presents, prepare to be purchased.

Isn't it time for a new election thread?!
Preferred B replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Obama is currently leading by 10 points in Wisconsin ... and by 44 points in Madison. Ha! -
The like, newest new election thread
Preferred B replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Can't it just be election day right now? Can I hibernate until November 4th? -
Nice recap, Lou. Here's a picture I took during the third set. Low light and no flash made for an ... interesting look when I tried to brighten it up.
-
Happy birthday!
-
Tamala and I were there tonight, too! So much fun. Have a great time tomorrow and bring us another win!

Yeah, wasn't that his guitar tech or something? I wonder if he's still with him.
-
Back in 2003 or so, when Beck played in Chicago, Jeff sat in for a song.
-
Kris, I'd forgotten Jim Baker was part of that Sun Ra tribute with Thurston and Avreeyal Ra. That was a great show, and I'm sure this will be too.

If the kids rushed the stage for MC Hammer, anything is possible. (P.S., Evonne, I read your sentence the first time as suggesting his pants might be full of pigs.)
-
Hey Sam, did he write this one about Adam?
-
Oh, for the love of God, Brewers.
