I share your pain. I wish they would figure out some way to do this. I shouldn't complain about where I'm sitting--it's not bad--but I'm just spoiled by the first or second row I can always get at a GA show when I'm prepared to wait in line. That's why I'm not more upset about middling 10th row sets for Baltimore, because I know I can be where I want to be the next night in DC if I just wait it out. And I do believe the weather will be better than the last time I waited in line, in Chicago in February!

Being a little closer to the grim reaper than many of you, and with a buttload of music in my memory and in my iTunes, I could happily live with just what I've heard so far. I would miss discovering new music, but I can't imagine not being able to hear my old favorites again.

I've always wondered if that bit in IATTBYH, where Jeff and Fred are talking about their stock options and swimming pools, is actually taken seriously by anybody. I've heard another Wilco fan saying they hated Fred Armisen in IATTBYH and I wondered if it was that part. I mean, Fred just appears briefly as Fericito (sp?) and then in that bit where they appear to be talking like two douchebags, which is clearly satirical. Maybe it's the same thing as people who want to cancel Colbert for being a racist. Irony, people!

I don't really think this would happen, but there was a 2-episode run on Louie (C.K.) about Letterman retiring and Louie being groomed to take over. In that story arc the network was positioning him as the more affordable alternative to Jerry Seinfeld, who was considered the obvious heir apparent. I think one of the best interviewers out there is Marc Maron, but he's probably too volatile and would alienate as many people as he would fascinate.

Oh, I couldn't disagree more about Portlandia. It's one of my favorite things on TV. Actually I don't think this was one of the strongest episodes, but when it's clicking on all cylinders I think it's just brilliant. You should really try at least one more episode, and if you don't like it after that, then maybe it's just not for you. Their kind of humor is very quirky and maybe it's also an acquired taste.

The festivals for me are Newport and Lockn. Really looking forward to Newport, since I haven't been for about 13 years, and the lineup looks so good. Lockn looks to be a little hippie jam band-y for my taste, but it's geographically desirable and they've still got some major announcements to make. The other big shows are Jeff Tweedy in DC and Baltimore and 2 nights of Phish in Portsmouth, VA. I got two tickets in the presale and only need one. This is center orchestra, row P, seat 107, which is pretty close to the middle, 15 rows back. (Row B is the first row.) I paid $57 including fees and will sell for that. This will be a hard copy ticket, which I can either mail to you when I receive it or bring to you at the show. Send me a PM if interested.

He announced it today and the episode will be airing tonight. He's had a great run and has left as much of a legacy as Johnny Carson, but it's probably time.

I paid $250 for floor seats (center, maybe 10 rows back) for Bruce Springsteen in DC around 2000--the E Street reunion tour, and I paid about the same amount for the Stones in Charlottesville in 2005 or 2006--again, good seats. I have to say, though, that neither one of these shows rivaled earlier shows by both of them way back in the day before they were so huge. There are not many artists I would pay that much to see anymore, and especially not in an enormadome. I'm not counting the living room show. That was by far the most I've ever spent, and it was worth every penny.

I hope you two don't suddenly remember that one time, after last call, when your bleary eyes met across a crowded room, and. . . never mind. That actually almost happened to me once. The new HR director at the company I worked for was talking about his days growing up in Va. Beach, we discovered we were the same age and I was from Norfolk, and after a lot more conversation we found out we had once double dated. Him with his gf, me with my bf, thank god! But small world!

Unless Maya Rudolph is coincidentally appearing on Parks and Rec as well, I think you are referring to Portlandia, which is on this Thursday, 4/4 on IFC. I know. . . it's hard to keep up with Jeff's myriad TV guest shots!

I had to look up QFT too. I think it means "quoted for truth". And I meant hot in the same sense you did, like buzz-y. Visually, they're pretty far from a polished up boy band. They look real and energetic. I hope they're in it for the long run.

Or White Stripes. But I don't think anybody will be confusing them with Stryper for long, if ever. I think their name is just fine, and it's probably too late to change it now anyway. And I totally agree they're hot.

I called the Meyerhoff today and was told that this one will be reserved seating. That was from someone at the box office, though, and sometimes they're wrong.
