  1. Thanks for the advice. The guitar tone has always bothered me a little going direct, but I guess I just got used to it. At one point, I tried placing a mic in front of the hole, but it sounded like ass. I will try placing it in front of the 12th fret. Thanks again!
  2. Yeah, that's one of the exceptions I was talking about.. The Beatles were just "the perfect band".. They WERE Rock N Roll But there have been many cases where a band was torn apart because another member discovers his/her writing ability.. Or two songwriters have always had conflicting ideas, and it just gets to be too much and the band falls apart.. Or a member leaves.. Hmm.. sounds kind of familiar for Wilco as well.
  3. Ha.. Exactly.. I have always said that you can't have more than one brilliant songwriter in one band.. It just doesn't work.. All though there have been rare exceptions.. In my opinion, when UT split, it's obvious where the better half of the song writing force went.
  4. Not a big Son Volt fan.. I Loved Jay in Uncle Tupelo. . but I dunno.. There's just something missing from Son Volt..
  5. I don't wear them, even though I know I should.. Not just because I can't hear myself sing with them, but because I pay close attention to the levels of the other instruments etc while performing, and I can't have them muffled.. But my band really isn't all that loud. It just depends on what the venue is. Most venue's, my ears will not ring afterward, but the smaller places, they will.. And those are the times I really should be wearing ear plugs, but I'm too damn stubborn..
  6. I look forward to enjoying free cheap shitty beer tonight at a show with my band.. Yeah, the bar is kind of a dive out in the middle of nowhere, but they pay well and they give us free beer.. I'll be drinking the good stuff while visiting family later next week. After I make my visit to Greens and pickup up some:
  7. Ok, here it is.. Man this was tough.. At first, I ended up with a comp that was about 20 minutes too long for the CD-R.. It was very hard to have to eliminate songs.. Guess I'll have to make a vol. ll eventually. What You're Doing It's All Too Much Something Long, Long, Long I Am the Walrus Get Back I Want to Hold Your hand Eleanor Rigby No Reply Hey Bulldog Don't Let Me Down Tomorrow Never Knows She Said She Said And Your Bird Can Sing Helter Skelter Strawberry Fields Forever A Day in the Life The Long and Winding Road Revolution You've Got to Hide Your Love Away Back in the U.S.S.R. 8. Thank you. It's nice to hear the good comments on my voice, because I've never believed vocals to be my strong point. I am primarily a lead guitarist, but lately have been getting into the whole "solo acoustic singer" deal. Based on the positive feedback I have received, there will be more to come.. Heck, might even throw out an original eventually. Thanks again everyone.
  9. You can usually find Samuel Smith at any store that sells specialty/imported beer. Down here, we have Greens.. Or Total Wine.. Everytime I go to Greens, it's mandatory for me to pick-up a Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout.. Mmm.. The dark, oatmeally, goodness...
  10. Very nice bro.. Excellent job. Love it. Damn there's so many great Wilco songs..
  11. Wow.. Lucky you.. I bet that was a terrific moment indeed. I was going to see them in August at the Orange Peel in Asheville, but something came up.. I bet they can still rock a great show..
  12. Thanks everyone. I'll keep this open until around this time tomorrow, and I'll post my final compilation for you all to see.
  13. I should probably give it another chance.. Haven't heard it in years. But I just remember it lacking the balls that the first album had.. It had the cheesy, pop sound, but with no balls.. If that makes any sense at all.. haha.. The first album had that distorted, bassey, ballsy, guitar tone that I just love..
  14. Oh yes.. I actually covered "Waiting on You" in a band.. And then they had "Susanne" - Great.. "Mykel and Carli" - Great.. The Christmas songs.. "You Gave your Love too Me Softly".. "Devotion"....Just great tunes..
  15. You know, you bring up a good point. I should pay attention to sequence when I'm building this compilation. For instance keeping the older stuff first, and then ending with their latest etc.. I really do take these compilations seriously for some reason.. But the more I think about it and the more people reply, its almost like you can't have a compilation.. You just have to play their first album, then their next, and so on... Nice.. Thanks!
  16. Ha, I do have an ipod, but I just like making a CD.. I dunno, I guess I'm kind of old school like that.. But thanks for the suggestions
  17. I haven't heard it, but a taping of the performance is found here: http://www.tapecity.org/showthread.php?p=121615 You have to sign up to view the thread..
  18. Leave it up to Analogman to add a reply like that.. It's true though.. It's probably impossible to make a 20 song "Best of" for the beatles because everything they produced was their greatest.. But keep those personal favorites coming.. Thanks
  19. So for all of you Beatles fans (who isn't one), this is your chance to shine. I will be doing A LOT of driving next week for the holidays, and I want to put together the perfect Beatles compilation CD. You can: 1. Reply with an entire compilation (20 songs or so.. whatever would take up your standard CD-R) 2. Just throw out your favorite songs that you think should be on there. This can include, popular songs, underated songs, underground songs.. Just whatever songs you think was their absolute greatest work. Thanks in advance!
  20. Hands down, the best darn beer ever.. Samual Smith also makes a great Nut Brown Ale.... My favorite beers are the one's you can only get at micro-brewery/pubs.. I once had a Mocha Stout (wish I remember who made it... had too many of them I guess) at a pub here in Charleston that was out of this world. The pub is Gene's Hofbrau.. But when I'm gonna have a cheap beer night at a gig or something, I just drink Miller Lite.. It's good, for shitty, cheap beer..
  21. Exactly.. And Weezer was one of those bands that I never expected that to happen to.. Every song from Blue, Pinkerton, the singles of that era, the songs from sound tracks.. Just great music.. Have you heard the song "Jamie"? What an amazing song.. But it seems as soon as Matt Sharp left the band, they started to fall downhill.. The Green album was just dull and generic, Maladroit was OK.. It had a couple descent songs and I thought they were going to make a comeback.. but nope.. They just had to go and release "Make Believe"...
  22. Yeah, I actually listened to that album a couple months ago.. It really is a great album. I love the distorted guitar combined with the moogs.. A couple of the songs are incredibly cheesy, but that's exactly what they were going for... But I mean, their next album "Seven More Minutes".. not good... not good at all...
  23. Definitely not impressed.. Some of the songs are actually pretty laughable.. It's kind of sad how Rivers could produce two brilliant albums, and then just completely lose it.. Maybe it was Matt Sharp leaving the band..
  24. Oh man, you've got an ES-335? That's one of my dream guitars! What color is it? I love those beauties.. Just never have been able to convince the wife to let me get one when I already have other guitars.. But yes, my main guitar is my 94 American Strat.. It has a rosewood fret board.. I also have a hotrail installed in the bridge position. It's funny, but I also had a friend that had a 50th Anniv. strat.. Nice axe.. His was sunburst with a maple neck.
