  1. I was on an Isbell kick just this morning, finally listening to the "Live At Twist N Shout" CD I bought ages ago but somehow never listened to. Smart of him to put out some of his best DBT-era songs recorded live with the 400 Unit. So I guess this is PE (Played Earlier!)
  2. I wish Jason & Neko were linking up in my PM box. That sounds sorta naughty, but you know what I mean! NP: The Heligoats - The End of All-Purpose EP This (I'm sure Kyle knows) is the guy from Troubled Hubble who is going out on tour supporting Clem Snide soon, with his band The Heligoats. I likee!
  3. Well that just sucks. And that father IS EVIL!!!
  4. Successful children AND a visit from Andrew D!?! My goodness, this thread is a cause for joy & celebration!
  5. I am very much looking forward to this one as well. Now I just checked their MySpace to see if any new songs have materialized (none so far), and I'm pretty sure I have not listened to Doves since last sorta OD'ing on them when Some Cities came out - new fan at the time, and seeing them at The Vic with you, Evonne, in May 2005*. http://www.myspace.com/dovesmyspace ... and the old songs are sounding really REALLY good today! *The mega-show weekend with Earlimart, Mercury Rev/Doves, Todd Rundgren/Joe Jackson back-to-back!

  7. http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2009...eko_case_m.html From Brooklyn Vegan: MP3 song to download - "People Got a Lot of Nerve" Re-post it on your blog and ANTI (Neko's label) will donate money to Best Friends Animal Society. And in other news, a tour must be close to being announced - I got news from The Pabst email list that Neko will be performing at The Pabst in Milwaukee on Saturday, April 25th - reserved seats - $22.50. Now that would be a sweet weekend show! Middle Cyclone (due March 3, 2009) 1. This Tornado Loves You 2. The Next Time You Say "Forever" 3. People Got A
  8. Welcome to VC! Sounds like you like a lot of the same music as many of us do. If there's not much happening in the "Just A Fan" section, be sure to visit the "Now Playing" sticky thread over in "Someone Else's Songs" section for lots of current and not-so-current music banter/critique. Lots of great records being spun and good advice from the VC membership.
  9. I didn't mind Bon Jovi at all. Bettye Lavette was amazing though. This moved along pretty quickly and I missed Stevie Wonder.
  10. Robert, I just edited my post to reflect your question. BTW -
  11. Yes, it increased, actually a good percentage over the prior year, especially in light of the economy tanking. Jeff Tweedy is recession-proof! Auction 2004 - ? Auction 2005 - $12,000 (doing 2 shows @ 20 people/show) I might need correction on this one Auction 2006 - $17,500 (doing 3 shows @ 30 people/show) Auction 2007 - $20,000 (doing 3 shows @ 30 people/show) Auction 2008 - $23,000 (doing 4 shows @ 30 people/show)
  12. That's an unfair thing to say, Zen. The benefit raises money to create scholarships for kids who cannot afford to attend the school. That doesn't equate into enriching the school itself. At least that's how I understand it.
  13. We already beat you do it! Enjoy your show! http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...t&p=1264775
  14. Every one of those guys in Cardinals will find work somewhere. They should contact Jay Bennett and do an album.
  15. I love Ryan Adams and The Cardinals. I will miss seeing them, but they've toured a long time, and I am thinking this is a cyclic thing, and here is a cut-and-paste from the RAA which I think sounds about right. Plus, he has booked some pretty large venues for these final few shows, just saying maybe he needs to advertise that it is the end of an era with him and the band. But never say never when it comes to RA. But I do worry about the hearing issue, that is nothing "created" IMO. Apparently he stated in an interview he was moving to Paris. Sounds wonderfully creative! And I won't be s
  16. I'm tempted to try to attend these shows as well! Plus it's for really good causes. Last year was a REALLY good show ... plus funny too. Remember the "Bubba the bus driver" story ?
  17. I am really enjoying all things Eef Barzelay these days, and getting into the Clem Snide back catalog, plus a new song on MySpace, and with the new CD "Hungry Bird" on its way Feb 24th, and an upcoming tour to support it stopping in Ft Wayne, well ... I'm pretty happy about all the above! 18. And two more shows ... in Chicago at The Vic (fundraisers) Feb 13th & 14th! http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=38341
  19. Nope, February! Read all about it here: http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=38341
  20. God is going to smite you for that last little jab.
  21. How about a movie score? Has he done any?
  22. It grew on me as the song went on. But still, not even close to Neil Young. Especially since I just heard him perform this song in November, when it just about took my breath away. So Mike Mogis produced this, eh?
  23. Me too - gorgeous! I can't wait to hear his version of Oh Lonesome Me.
