  1. Lyrically, the songs remind me more of Being There. Musically, the songs remind me more of AM. Being There makes me happy. AM makes me happy. Therefore, the new songs...
  2. I must be on a completely different planet from you folks with regards to this album. Let me say here: I have listened to people's opinions on here about The Decemberists, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Spoon, countless other bands and, even the last Joe Strummer album that came out several years back. And I've loved each of those opinions, but... As I sit here and listen to Kid A for the first time in roughly 6 months, I still don't "get it." It still sounds like meandering, aimless stuff to me. I see this thing hailed as a masterpiece roughly everywhere I look (and OK Computer too for that
  3. I have heard very little of their entire catelogue, but I'm willing to say that "The Silver Lining" is the worst. I think the CD player in my car may even be allergic to it. It commands me to turn the volume down every time I put it on.
  4. I love every new song with the exception of "On & On & On." It's right on par with My Darling in my book and would be a huge mistake to include it on the album.
  5. Nope. It never works unless you get off your ass and work towards the goal yourself. As far as Wilco making it to your desired location, I highly doubt that 1) it'll happen or 2) praying or getting off your ass will help. In a situation like that, I guess "prayer" is just as helping as "hoping" then. I'll be hoping they decide to announce a date in the Southeast for your sake though.
  6. Want to enlighten me as to what happened? That seems to be a story I've never heard before. Edit: Never mind. I googled it.
  7. 1) Tweedy's voice is more accessible than Dylan's so I'd play Tweedy (plus, everyone's heard of Dylan by now or has heard him already) 2) Wilco is killer live and Bob has been known to suffer at times 3) Jeff would be more engaging in conversation these days I do believe. 4) Blonde on Blonde>Summerteeth>YHF As I was born in 1984, a lot of Dylan's music doesn't have a whole lot of relevance to the time period I grew up in. However, that's not to say I don't love Bob's stuff. In fact, I'm working on buying his albums one at a time here and I love all of them.
  8. Sounds like a plan. Sadly, if I hadn't just started a new job, I'd be hitting many more than the Cincy and Louisville shows and may have that opportunity. I'd be able to catch the Purdue show and possibly the East Lansing one too if I wasn't in a training position. Bummer.
  9. Where in my post did I say you couldn't go? Nice over-reaction there. What I DID say that you apparently did not understand the first time was this: 1) You still want to go to plenty of shows. 2) You know what most of the set will be and yet you're still whining about the setlist. to which I replied: 1) If you don't like it, you don't have to go. No one is forcing you, although you seem to believe I was up until about 2 hours ago. 2) Go in with the expectation that you will get a great band at the top of their game and only that expectation and you will enjoy the show. I hope this
  10. Well I'm glad some of us have money to burn on shows they don't really give a damn about. I wish I was so lucky. I, for one, don't care about the "encore system." Whatever they want to do is fine by me. As long as they play for a reasonable amount of time (90 mins +) I couldn't care less. I'm one of those people whose concert motto is "If you don't like how they set it up, what they play, or what they do on stage, don't even go." Just don't whine about it later because you've seen the band 30 times and all the shows are "running together" or say "I've seen them play Spiders 18 times an
  11. Right. I'll remain happy listening to music I enjoy (your opinion doesn't matter to me on this one) and you can remain spiteful. Keep up the good work.
  12. Yeah and you're missing NOTHING. The first track is okay, second track is okay, last 11 tracks are freakin' awful. Especially an awful tune titled "Super Girl." That song title alone should have screamed "Don't buy the album!!" at me, but I still have a soft spot for several '90s bands. Oh, and Lizish, I was referring to you mentioning the Decemberists as a band I'd be "embarassed" to have liked come 2010 or whatever. If so, toss Wilco in with them. They're the only band I truly like more than the Decemberists. I'm probably one of the few Decmberists fans who likes Picaresque just a
  13. 0 albums, one Beastie Song on a compilation and a few on a soundtrack. I can't stand rap, don't view most of it as something that I would necessarily consider listenable music. 99% of rap I've heard is trite, radio-made junk that high school girls listen to, so I guess that doesn't help my opinion of it any. That being said, the rappers I've been told are "good" by people whose musical opinion I respect I also have no desire to hear ever again. I do like old Beastie Boys stuff, however. I just can't justify buying an album because hearing the occasional cut on the radio is enough for
  14. I still love Fastball...this from 8 years ago. And if it weren't for the new Soul Asylum, Pearl Jam, and Gin Blossom records, I may still be able to say I like a bunch of other '90s bands. I still like their '90s stuff though... Wanna try tossing another one at me?
  15. Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how I get the record here in the US. All the releases are overseas and the Amazon/Buy.com sites list them at 25 dollar imports. We're From Barcelona is such a catchy tune though. It's been stuck in my head for days...
  16. This is how I feel about Radiohead. This is also why I DON'T post in Radiohead topics unless I have something relevant to say. I'd like to think I set a good example on that one that some people might follow. Oh, and I can't wait for this album and sadly, I don't have the pleasure of downloading the leak as you folks do.
  17. Dunno if it means anything you your folks, but it means something to this arguement. I'm not sure if RHCP gets $$ for it, but NASCAR has been using that piece of sh*t song "Dani California" for weeks in its Nextel Cup broadcasts...
  18. That's a coin flip as far as I'm concerned. Conor's voice has driven me into a wrist-slitting frenzy before.
  19. Musically, they're an incredible studio band that leaves a lot to be desired *musically* in their live set. Your father was right on in his assessment of their live set: it's more like an act than a concert. Also, I'm 22 and in the same boat with my father. He introduced me to Son Volt after Trace came out (initially hated it), but we discovered UT and Wilco (initially hated Summerteeth) together and have attended upwards of 6 Wilco shows together. It's not a bad thing considering he's purchased nearly all of those tickets... Other bands/acts we've seen live together: The Jayhawks, Son
  20. "California Songs" by Local H. They say it all: please no more f*cking California songs. Let's find a new subject to beat to death. And if anyone suggest that POS "Dani California" ( ) by RHCP, I'm gonna slap.
  21. He still remains one of my favorites. I don't find him boring at all. I saw him open for Semisonic back right as Musicforthemorningafter came out and was blown away. I'll be getting his new one next week when it comes out.
  22. Nicely done. Beltmann will whip you into shape real quick.
  23. I think the new songs are excellent musically. I love the space that's left for Nels to work in them. But I agree, on the other hand, that the lyrics are sub-par. However, I really don't care. I think we've yet to hear all the songs anyways, so I'm not concerned. I'll still buy the album the day it comes out and listen to it for weeks I'm sure.
