New Pornographers not welcomed at Calvin College
KevinG replied to IATTBYB's topic in Someone Else's Song
The question is, would they be welcomed by Calvin Coolidge? Methinks yes -
sarcasm doesn't work well written out.

That song is pretty much terrible.

Me wonders if the shows opening credits are a foreshadow of how the show will end. Don leaving his office (and the series) via the window.

references are fine. They make all kinds of references. I think it would be really weak if they went and saw Dylan. Would be like, oh look we are in the 60's cause we saw Dylan. They do a much better job at portraying the 60's then to have a crutch like that.

Just picked up Lola vs. Powerman and the Merry Go Round. Freaking brilliant.

Thought of that, but Conrad Hilton is no Bob Dylan or Andy Warhol. And to tell you the truth I kept thinking when I saw him is that his was the guy who is the Great Grandfather of Paris and Nikki.

I would hate to see any real life person in Mad Men. It would come off as cheesy. Do we need to see Peggy and her friends go to the Newport Folk Festival to see Dylan go electric? Or hang at the Factory. That stuff is been done to death. I would much rather see how the culture effects them tangentially. Remember New York is a pretty big place and not everyone bumps into a cultural icon everywhere they go. When historical figures pop up in shows it smacks of lazy writing, and one thing Mad Men is not is lazy writing.

absolutely loved this season. Matt Smith is an excellent Doctor. Love his old man type of mannerisms. Also you get the sense that the Doctor is an alien, rather then some dude. Tennant always felt to me like he was a hipster that was too cool for the room and a damn know-it-all. Smith is a much more flawed character.

can we get a spin off series please?

best not to consider Pitchfork for any reliable information, unless you are hipster douche bag.

It is nice to see a review of the new album and a positive review at that. But man that was horribly written. It starts off with a quote from Jay about how is music is compared to Wilco and the the author goes and compares the album to: Todd Rundgren Ziggy-era David Bowie George Harrison Mike Gordon Tom Waits Jay could never get reviewed on his own ideas. My hope is that some more reputable source gives Jay a proper review.

I am have listened to this a couple of times and while it is good, it is not my favorite Jay Bennett. It just seems a bit too restrained to me. I always liked when Jay threw in the kitchen sink. Sure some of the songs were complete disasters, but you could always find some gems. This album is missing any true gem. I can't seem to find one song stick out to me. Maybe after a couple more listens.

Just got it, and giving the first listen.

I am convinced that Bowie is the coolest man in the universe.

Where is my Hurley and Ben run the island for 2000 years sequel? I picture a odd couple like sitcom. Cause that would be awesome.

I am thinking Richard is indeed dead, since Jacob is finally gone (ashes all burned up - still wraping my head around that one) the "gift" he gave was taken away, so he could die. Just my thought.

So I had this thought. So Mother destroys the camp and buries the well which holds the frozen donkey wheel. The frozen donkey wheel is eventually set up (cause we see Ben and Locke both turn the wheel.) Who set it up? MIB? Jacob? If MIB set up why, was he not able to use it to leave the island ala Ben and Locke? Why is Jacob allowed to come and go as he pleased. Did he use the lighthouse? At what point did Jacob decide to leave the island to push our canidates to the destiny they are now. There could be an entire season of island history with Jacob, MIB and these questions.

Those people were Jacob and MIB's true mother's people who were shipwrecked on the island. I don't they were symbolic of an early civilization since this was 23 AD, civilization was pretty well established. They were a group of people a kin to the Dharma Initiative. In fact they went to great lengths to to set up the fact that they were an early version of the DI (smart men doing experiments, etc.) As for their destruction, I would guess the Mother (Alison Janney) is also the smoke monster (it is the only thing on island that could have caused that sort of destruction). She probably went in

I actually liked this episode. It was far from perfect, and I did expect more. This article from io9 sums it for me. Last Nights Lost was Cheesy - and that's a good thing.
