Judge issues temporary restraining order on the collective bargaining law Well this thing ain't ending anytime soon. It is will be interesting how this will play out in the public forums (ie radio, tv et al). The Right will say say it is all about Union thugs trying usurp the duly elected representatives of WI, and the Left will say it is about trying to stop a bill that was passed without following the rule of law.

Actually if you read between the lines the implication was made. It listed a bunch of terrible things that were done or said to republicans, and then saying oh yeah by the way they are boycotting businesses. It is putting the boycott on the same level as the terroristic threats. There is no reason to mention the boycotts, unless to have a reader make the connection between the terrible things that were done / said and the boycotts.

One year ago today, we lost one of the best song writers. Stereogum has a pretty nice article here. I had forgotten.
-
So this article equating a boycott of a business to terrorism? That is nice.

did I wake up in 1998?

This bank is not small. It is (was) one of the largest banks in WI. The firefighters "shut down" a branch not the bank. The branch shut down because it didn't have the cash funds on hand. Other then the shock value, this is a non story. and I ment by who uses banks anymore I ment branches. With ATM, automatic bill pay and the like when was the last time you stepped in a branch?
-
who uses banks anymore? as a side note M&I is in the process of being bought out by the Bank of Montreal anyways.

Glad you have something to contribute to the discussion. And glad your opinion was so well thought out that you could defend it. On to a better subject. What are people's thoughts on how the "Budget Repair Bill" which wasn't actually budgetary finally passed?
-
The basic tenant of your argument is that is corporations keep more of their own money it equals more jobs. But this is not happening in this economy. I am not saying business are charity, but they have been given tax cuts and the like to create jobs. So if they are not going to create jobs why give them tax cuts? If the manufacturing forecasts are looking so good, why would they need tax breaks and incentives? Why aren't they hiring? They should have more then enough money to accommodate that. They have record profits they should put those back in their businesses. They are not.
-
The reason the whole budget bill mess started in the first place was the unwillingness of the WI governor to make the tough choices and raise taxes (rather he cut taxes for corporations) on those that could afford it. Instead he is targeting the groups that did not vote for him, Unions and the Poor. Instead gov Walker sees himself as the idealized version of Reagan, which he is not. Record profits are not putting people back to work, the tax cuts are not putting people back to work. Then, tell me if a corporation has record profits where is that money going? It is staying in the hands
-
With record profits and the US receiving near lows in tax revenues from corporations, those rich corporations are sure doing a bang up job hiring more people. Those three links show the corporations are keeping there own money and not producing jobs. Please explain the logic. Do corporations need more record profits? Furthermore, I took a benefit cut and a pay freeze the last two years and now that my company has post tremendous profits this past year, did I get a bonus, or my benefits back, or even an increase. No I did not.

That was horrible.

but nary a mention on CNN, FOXnews, MSNBC, etc. if 500 tea partiers get together it is the end of the world. If 70K union supporters get together does it really happen?

While I agree with everything you have said, and I whole hardly agree with the Unions and their fight. I need to call BS when I see it. This article may be factually correct, however it does not address the elephant in the the room. Public employees salaries and compensation are funded by the tax payers. To the anti-union Joe out there that is what gets their goat. They don't want "their money" going to the overpaid, over compensation, lazy public worker. Sure they public worker pays 100% of their retirement and what not, not 100% of that money comes from taxpayers.
-
here is the actual bill WI Senate Bill 11. In the bill it says among other things and So yes that is killing the union. And you don't see how not showing up for work accomplishes anything? If the public employees did show up for work in the past three days and just quietly complained about this, do you think you would be talking about it, let alone hearing about it?

You have to remember what you are paying for. This is a fundraiser for Rahm, not a Jeff Tweedy show. There will be a lot of political mumbo jumbo rah rah Rahm stuff there. Jeff prolly will play more than 30 minutes but it won't be a full on Jeff Tweedy experience. Your better bet is to wait until March 28th and drive up to Madison for the Jeff solo show. Figure 35 bucks for a ticket 25 dollars in gas and 20 bucks for dinner/drinks you are at the 80 for the fundraiser and you saw a better show. so there you go.

Wilco starts own label, distribution through Anti- Records
KevinG replied to scribex6's topic in Just A Fan
maybe with the new record label WB/Nonesuch will put out the B-Side compilations people have been clamoring for. -
might be a moot point, Rahm might not be on the ballott. Rahm booted off ballott
-
I actually hope not. I like finding these gems through other means. Also it has always seemed to me that any time a B-Side complication is put out it means 1) The band is leaving their current record label and said label is trying to squeeze out a bit more money of the band (which I would have thought WB would have done before YHF) 2) The band has no more good music to create so they are trying squeeze out another album where they don't actually have to work on it (all about the money again) Plus with digital downloads and rampant internet piracy, would make sense to try to sell an albu
