  1. I agree that the split wasn't totally amicable but I don't believe that DBT is trying to have Jason "spin" the story for their sake. I think they just helped him to understand that it was in nobody's best interest to piss on one another. I think Jason reacted emotionally at first (as most would) but eventually figured out that DBT essentially made him what he is.
  2. I haven't seen any Will Hoge sets turning out but I'm not too religious about visiting the site. I was going to pull down the Chicago show but I haven't done the torrent thing in so long that it didn't seem worth it. At any rate, for my money, Jason is going on the list of performers that I am going to check out everytime he pours through Chicago. Smaller venues than the Truckers and just an outstanding performance. With all of the touring he's doing, I'm a little concerned about when the next album will surface.
  3. Congratulations and nice work! I love the original name as well.
  4. Only 50-75 people...wow. Hard to believe he isn't pulling more people in. Your experience, with the exception of the number of people, was similar to mine in Chicago. Jason is definitely more engaging as a front man and they sounded great. I was able to buy him a whiskey after the show and he commented that he loved my "thriving metropolis". Regarding the taping, most of the shows have shown up on ninebulletts.org.
  5. I think he is playing to the rooms that he can fill. Son Volt plays small theatres. To be honest, that is a part of what I love about seeing Jay live...the venues. He is cleary an elite in alt-country or any other folk or American music genre. Although Trace is an absolute classic, I think the bulk of his output has been pretty extraordinary (he may need to hire someone to edit his albums though).
  6. the sea sure has some odd stuff in it. We were recently on the gulf coast after a storm and there was some REAL unexplainable things washed up on shore. Very cool though...I'd like to get a sea spider for the house.
  7. Love the recommendations. My favorite by far is "Real Time with Bill Maher". I actually look forward to driving home from work.
  8. Totally agree...There is maybe one song on it that I can do without but the rest is very, very solid. I'm looking forward to seeing him next month.
  9. Although I'm very sad to see it go, I haven't been a big fan of the magazine in quite some time. For whatever reason, I just haven't found the material all that interesting the few times I've purchased over the last couple of years. I used to read it religiously. I cannot read online periodicals. I may look at them occasionally but I can't stand reading a long internet article (hell, I can't stand reading a long post most of the time). I'd much prefer to read a magazine/newspaper/book on the couch/plane/comfortable chaire, etc. I guess I'm old school on reading and new-school on digita
  10. Yes, there are always people at sold out shows that don't necessarily "deserve" to be there. However, people complaining about the "new fans" are either delusional or have short memories. I rarely missed a Wilco or Tweedy show at Lounge Ax. Those shows were absolutely notorious for having people talking throughout the shows. There were good fans and bad fans then, and there are good and bad fans now. Just do your best to ignore them and enjoy the band.
  11. Greg Kot has a song by song listing on his blog: Chicago Tribune Kot blog
  12. I know what you are going to listen to next.
  13. Yes, the songs get lost in the production. This album truly is my #1 album that needs to be reissued as deconstructed. There isn't even a close 2nd.
  14. All Shook Down is the #1 album that I would like to see reissued with the production stripped down to how the songs would sound live. Scott Litt produced and it sounds way over produced. I think the songs are good but the production doesn't hold up. Tim, Pleased to Meet Me and Let it Be are my favorites. However, if you are starting at nothing, I'd recommend the compilation album.
  15. ah, you can get a digital copy of the album now and a hard copy on 2/19 if you go to Gary's myspace page for $10.99. Nice. myspace link
  16. Gary has a much bigger following than Mark. I don't think that is all that surprising. He would sell out Schubas in quick fashion.
  17. I wonder if there will be any pot there.
  18. I'd like to say that I won't buy this....but I will.
  19. To steal from an NBC catchphrase "It's new to you". I also picked up Swell Season late last year and it is a captivating little piece.
