  1. much like Marah, MMJ's albums have never really lived up to their amazing live show anyway... but i will say that MMJ have made 3 very good to great records, whereas Marah only 1, maybe 2
  2. i can see people not feeling it, but no way in hell does it deserve that low of a rating. like i said, it's probably my 2nd least favorite record, but there's still plenty to love on the record...
  3. Document New Adventures In Hi-Fi Life's Rich Pageant Murmur
  4. yeah, MMJ has always had very questionable to poor lyrics imo.
  5. more room for me at shows there's 2-3 songs alone on the record that make it worth a 4.7
  6. hmm... i think they've only ever played the State Theatre before? maybe that last show of theirs in town was at the Orpheum though? wherever it was, i skipped it because i saw them the previous fall on the first tour for Takk and was highly highly disappointed (almost fell asleep numerous times, which isn't that uncommon for me at SR shows, but in those instances it's in a GOOD way). i've seen them 3x, first time at the Woman's Club in 2001, which was amazing, at the State in '03, which was probably my favorite, and the Takk tour show at the State in '05 or whenever that i mentioned above.
  7. ouch thing is, i enjoy the Red Album boatloads more than the last 2 Weezer records (which were both quite awful). maybe even like it more on the whole than the Green Album, but both are a far cry from their first 2 albums.
  8. other than At Dawn, their albums have all had at least 1-2 tracks that i don't really enjoy, and EU is no different
  9. personally i'd probably give it a 7.8, with Z being a 8.1, At Dawn a 9.1, It Still Moves an 8.5, and TN Fire a 7.6
  10. i gotta say... this is fucking kicking my ASS so far... especially Festival (only through track 6)
  11. yeah, they've underrated them throughout their career for the most part, so who really cares wtf they think
  12. i mean it's not their best record by ANY means, but 4.7? come the eff on
  13. hoping it's a lot better than Takk... was pretty let down by that one ( ) is still my fave
  14. exactly. how people don't understand this is beyond me. have they not been teaching this in History class about WWII the last 10-15 years??
  15. Garden Ruin version of ASR >>>>> Acoustic version while the acoustic version is gorgeous, it misses out on the power of that wall of sound ending that makes the song extra special for me. that song is a total Frames song, big time. kind of wonder if they wrote it shortly after touring w/ them in '03 maybe.
  16. Modest Mouse are a WAY way bigger band in America than The National are, both in terms of record and ticket sales. MM's 'Good News' went platinum, and I'd be surprised if the National have an album that has sold much over 100k (if that much) in the US up until now.
  17. i think i enjoy We All Belong a tad more at the moment, but their last 3 are all equally great. they've certainly come into their own over the last 3 records, compared to those earlier ones (which are good, don't get me wrong, just not great). that said, there's still a couple songs on all of their last 2 records that i just have never really gotten into, and this one is no different.
  18. Garden Ruin is their most accessible, so that's a good recommendation, but Feast of Wire is their best all around album. Garden Ruin has one of their best songs though, 'All Systems Red'. was prolly the most stunning song of 2006 for me.
  19. they're playing the Bowery the night before the 1st MSG show wanna cut out of the 24th show early to see them in Brooklyn?
  20. exactly... anyone denying how utterly HUGE his accomplishment is, even up to this point... no matter what side of the political compass you're on, needs a history lesson
