I used to live a mile or so from there, but I'm a suburban dad now, with a 9-5 (that actually begins at 6), so a Weds. at the Green Mill ain't too doable any more. One of these days, though. Thanks for the tip!

What's the rarest record or memorabilia you have from any band?

I have herpes from Exene Cervenka. -
I've only got a single disc from The Rosenberg Trio and, of course I've heard plenty of Django Reinhart and Stephane Grappelli. But, who else out there plays in this style that I should be hearing? I really like all that I've heard so far but, as is the case with a lot of distinct instrumental styles, I'm not so sure that I need a whole lot more. Any fans of the style? What else do I need outside of a couple of records? And what are the ESSENTIAL Gypsy Jazz records (Incl/ Django, et. al.)? I don't see it talked about much, and a search revealed nothing on the boards, so... Louie B, I'm

I also have this "bootleg" vinyl compilation of OLD Parliment singles. The picture of the band on the cover, they looked so clean-cut, like this: Most of the songs made it on to the Osmium album (some of them in different recordings), but some of them didn't. The original version of "Testify" is a barn-burner. And you bet your ass I played that thing!!! -
That was going to be my exact suggestion. Damn. Or, maybe if that's been overdone, you could compare: The Autobiography Of Malcolm X and The Autobiography Of Fredrick Douglas: An American Slave

Oh, I also have a test-pressing of some late-period Benny Goodman record on Chess Records. It's multi-colored vinyl and pretty swank-looking. Can't remember the name of the album, but my mom's family was friends with the Chesses in the 50's when they lived on the South Side, so she got it from them. -

Original vinyl of: Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat (MGM) Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (MGM) Velvet Underground - Loaded (Cotillion) Emmitt Rhodes - Emmitt Rhodes (Dunhill) At least, I think that they're rare. Not really a collector, so I'm not too hip on that. I just like the music. -

The Greatest Recorded Tracks of All-Time
PopTodd replied to chinarider's topic in Someone Else's Song
As far as pure sound: the entirety of Shellac - At Action Park sounds freaking amazing. Like the band is there, in the room with you. Especially if you've heard the vinyl. Also (again, sorry about the full-album instead of single tracks): Paul Weller - Wild Wood Is magnificent-sounding. -
I own it. And yes, I am a big, big Daniel Johnston fan. As to the topic at-hand, Conor Oberst does have a couple of pretty amazing songs, but the bulk of what I've heard is not even close to the best of what he's done.

Some of the tones on Wild Wood are pretty spectacular, too.
