  1. Sounds like... The Kinks' song is Sunny Afternoon.
  2. Monday - Wilco Tuesday Morning - The Pogues Wednesday Morning 3AM - Simon & Garfunkel Thursday - Morphine Black Friday - Steely Dan The Heart of a Saturday Night - Tom Waits Sunday Morning - Velvet Undergroung
  3. I really like The Hyphenated Man. Didn't care for We Jam Econo. Looking forward to seeing Mike Watt on the 16th.
  4. Wish I was seeing Queens of the Stone Age tonight. On this tour they're playing their debut album in its entirety.
  5. The Pogues are actually a London band (with only two out of the eight members Irish, and Shane MacGowan ain't one of them), but for modern Irish music, they're hard to top. For more traditional Irish, look to the Dubliners or Chieftains. For movies, I'd add The General (not the Buster Keaton film), Bloody Sunday, and The Secret of Roan Inish (though this one is an American film - set in Ireland) and The Boxer.
  6. This looks to finally be the year of the Canucks. They've been so strong, even with an injury-plagued defense. Red Wings will be a first-round casualty, but I'm hoping that Lidstrom wins his 7th Norris.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzkhOmKVW08 Double A-side with Come Together. awesomesauce.
  8. If I Needed Someone - The Beatles I had been listening to an ipod playlist in my car - all the songs I have from the 60s - and as much as I love that decade, whenever The Beatles come on, they just outshine everything and everyone. I turned it up as loud as I could take it, and this particular song just sounded wonderful: the 12 string guitar, the harmonies, the bass...
  9. Or the job/pay isn't appealing to those who are qualified.
  10. Is that due to a lack of qualified US applicants, or a lack of interested qualified US applicants?
  11. If you have those job listings, please forward. I have a friend with a PhD in Physics who can't find work. Not every kid who gets put through the public school machine gets spat out a dumbshit either. It's noble to want a top-quality education for everyone, but it reminds me of Castro bragging that even Cuban prostitutes are well educated.
  12. No one? Sure there is. It's called private education. It's called private tutoring. Certainly enough people pony up for this kind of system or else it would cease to exist.
  13. Yeah, I thought it was a great show too. I've seen Shane solo (with the Popes) 3-4 times, and with the Pogues one other time, and this time was the most crisp I've seen him. He didn't bungle the lyrics too badly, and his singing was pretty on the whole night.
  14. Oh I've seen them. And you're right. So long as Shane can stand on his own, it'll be a great show.
  15. I'm glad to be seeing The Pogues tonight, as it appears that this will be their last U.S. tour.
  16. After reading Sir Stewart's post, I'm now doubting my memory, but I swear I saw it happen live. I was a sophomore in H.S., and we were in gym class - and during that part of the year, the subject was bowling, so we were out at a local lane. I had just bowled, so I was watching TV up by the bar. The reason I think I was watching it live was because I swear I remember watching the shuttle sitting on the launch pad forever, waiting for take-off. So, it's possible I was watching CNN. I think I remember thinking that something didn't look quite right, and then the huge ball of flame appeared,
  17. The good thing about that is that scientists never disagree with each other.
  18. I have my stereo hooked up to my computer, so I always use iTunes to play music at home. I think the only CD player I have is the one within the computer. The only time I use a CD is to burn it to iTunes. In my car, I listen to my iPod through a cassette converter thingy. I keep 6 CDs in the car stereo - they haven't changed in years, but I only use them as backup when I forget to bring my iPod.
  19. 1. I've never heard Hallelujah until clicking on this thread. 2. I enjoy Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys.
  20. Yes to Mike Watt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeov75xE3-E
  21. The two best Clash basslines ever did not involve Paul Simonon: (Radio Clash being the other) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcHL8efKKPE
  22. The soundtrack to Walker is also worth checking out.
