Well said. The right of two private parties to form a binding contract (as long as it's not for illegal activity) without government interference is definitely one of the cornerstones of our country. Those who want to give the government power to terminate contracts have no idea what kind of slippery slope they're on. I'm sure Obama will do what he can to get AIG or the bonus payee to not enforce the contract, but it has to be one of those parties that makes the concession. He can't force it.

Could be deferred bonuses? Many shops use deferred bonuses to insure that the employees don't take their entire bonus and leave. Instead, they spread it out over several years. So, we could be looking at bonuses that were promised based on past years performance...

Not trusting Cramer isn't about being cynical or jaded. It's realizing that he has no idea of your financial situation, your financial goals, your risk tolerance, your investment-savvy, etc.

True - he didn't predict the collapse that started in August, and continued through... now (and beyond), so the timeliness wasn't the best, but it was still good advice. I'm sure Cramer has given both good and bad advice, as any financial advisor has done, but people have to realize that there's different advise for different needs - perhaps his show doesn't have enough disclaimers in it. I was originally responding to the idea posited that NOBODY deserves $30 mil a year, which you yourself ducked... Why are you asking me to justify their salaries? So what, you named 3 people who don't deserve their salary... Again, why does NOBODY deserve $30 mil/year?

Why are you asking me what I do? I don't earn $30 mil/year. But if I invent a product that sells so well that I make $30 mil/year, why wouldn't I deserve that?
