  1. Thus Okonokos and the countless MMJ bootlegs in circulation. I'd consider myself a pretty serious MMJ fan and I hardly ever listen to their studio albums. I wonder how many people bootleg Shins shows I think there are certain bands, like the Grateful Dead, for example, where that something that makes them so great just can't be captured in the studio. Whereas other bands (and I'd put the Shins in this group) shine in a more controlled setting, like the studio. That said, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Mercer does with this next record, though I might skip the tour if it comes
  2. I was planning to go, but I heard from a mpls friend that this fest is terribly organized every year. So I'm skipping. I'll catch the Jayhawks if they tour.
  3. Yeah, but MMJ more than makes up for any lyrical or structural shortcomings in their songs with their face-melting live show. The Shins...not so much. (And I liked the Shins live; always enjoyed Marty's banter, that big jerk).
  4. Yvon! You should come! Maybe it'll coincide with the Yim Yames solo show...triple whammy!
  5. Aw cool...that sounds like fun. I might come over after the Feelies show at Millennium Park.
  6. So cool! Congrats to the happy couple. Clearly I need to join this group...any single dudes left?
  7. The cover is fantastic! I love it because it reminds me of those awesome Milwaukee shows. Good times!
  8. Good to know, thanks! I read something on the Allstate site about a shuttle from the train - any thoughts on that? Also, anyone planning to check out this Dead art/photography exhibit across the way?
  9. I'm amazed they're allowing camping. That should be interesting. We're taking the train out tomorrow - any advice on that front?
  10. How did it go? I missed the performance because we were getting in a last minute run-through, but I heard there was some excitement...
  11. It should be slightly cooler this year since it's in October ah, who am I kidding...
  12. Cool, I'll see you guys Friday then. I wasn't able to make it over there last night.
  13. I LOVE them! Do they ever tour outside the Pacific Northwest?
  14. I would say you are wrong, but your tastes probably just differ from mine. It's the best undercard of any fest aside from Roo this year, in my opinion.
  15. I think they did an excellent job of snaring a number of the SXSW buzz bands like the Low Anthem, Blitzen Trapper, Henry Clay People, Deer Tick, etc. My dance card will be plenty full with these: Pearl Jam Beastie Boys Ben Harper and Relentless7 The Dead Weather The Levon Helm Band Sonic Youth Mos Def Toadies Flogging Molly Andrew Bird Girl Talk Bon Iver Avett Brothers Medeski, Martin & Wood Grizzly Bear Heartless Bastards Dan Auerbach DeVotchka Blitzen Trapper Dr. Dog The Raveonettes Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears The Felice Brothers Daniel Johnston Rodriguez Preservation Hall
  16. I don't believe we've met, but Bob was my Guitar 1 Rep teacher. Really nice dude! Do you think they'll offer Tweedy ensemble again? I'm hesitant to sign up for it since I know I'll only be able to make about half the Saturday classes. Darn June weddings...
  17. I agree. I've been taking classes there for the past few years and it really starts to feel like a family. The performance space is very cool - just saw Loretta Lynn there last week. And I'll be performing there myself on Friday with my go-go class It's a great place, and we should consider ourselves very lucky to have it in our own backyard.

  19. I might drop by tomorrow night and check it out. Thanks for posting!
  20. I just got an email from Frontgate saying that the GA2 and GA0 don't really mean anything. GA is GA. I'm hoping for no openers...."An Evening With Wilco", if you will.
  21. Great Lake Swimmers' Lost Channels for $2.99 today.
  22. Cheers! Couldn't agree more. So excited to see him at Lolla this summer.
