The Go! Team - Proof of Youth
imsjry replied to Duck-Billed Catechist's topic in Someone Else's Song
I saw them open for Sonic Youth and I think they are the only band on the planet that could make Sonic Youth seem bland by comparison. They were amazing live. However, I got their disc and never play it. After seeing the show, the disc just couldn't compare. -
FYI-the Sirius Web stream is horrible quality so recording that isn't worth it at all.

Anyone else thinks is odd that Bob would invite Jack White to sing his own songs at his own concert?? What a cool thing for Mr. White!

What is the theme of this download? Just a random mix of SBD live stuff?
-
Ok, so is Ordinary People a redone version from this year or is it the same studio version that's been on bootlegs since the 80's?
-
Nah, I thought the same thing for Devils and Dust and The Rising. The CD's didn't make them sound better production-wise. They all sound muddy. Listen to The Seegar Sessions and then any of the Brenden produced discs. Night and day difference.

Story behind the song. I guess Bruce added it as a "hidden" track since Amazon doesn't even list it.... "REMEMBERING TERRY MAGOVERN" As reported previously, Springsteen's longtime friend and "faithful working companion" Terry Magovern passed away on July 30. There's now a tribute page to the man at brucespringsteen.net. "Terry stood as a strange New Jersey version of 'the catcher in the rye,' out on the edge of some windswept cliff keeping children from rushing over the edge," Springsteen writes. "He was always busy saving something or somebody. It was his blessing and his tragedy." Along wi

I think it saves the entire album. I need to focus on the lyrics more, but musically this is disc is a snoozer. It is what I feared; call it a E-Strret band disc even though it may as well be a solo Bruce project so you can take the whole band on the road to sell out stadiums.... At least 3 songs actually sound like the whole band was "involved".

"Girls in Their Summer Clothes" may be the worst thing he's put on disc. That's my only first impression which also isn't a good thing... OK, didn't Landau hype this as some big windows-down, rocking album? It certainly isn't that on first listen.

Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" Announcement
imsjry replied to SquashedFrog's topic in Someone Else's Song
Boy did you miss the boat on this one. Yikes... -
I have a Toshiba Gigabeat that was $199.00 for 40GB! Not sure what it doesn't have that an Ipod has. I highly recommend it.

Well everyone will be standing anyway so what difference does it make? At least it will be a nice venue, no?

I have never understood the Jenny Lewis love around here. Her stuff sounds like bland Lisa Loab-ish stuff to me. Is there some great disc she put out that I need to hear? I have heard the solo disc because my wife digs it and I justl don't hear anything special there.

By far the WORST venue I've ever been to. It makes the Aragon in Chicago seem like the Royal Albert Hall!!

Are the versions that different than the ones we know and love? I've never heard this before.

Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" Announcement
imsjry replied to SquashedFrog's topic in Someone Else's Song
I disagree with everything you said. I would hold Modern Times up to any of Dylan's 60's output. I think in many ways it may be the best thing he's done. "Spirit on the Water" is a stone cold classic imo. If "Magic" is half as good I'll be thrilled. -
Why do bands hate Wisconsin? Ok, don't answer that....
-
Jeez, I never knew there were so many die hard Mike Anthony fans!
-
OK, since you've called him a genius like 5 times now.....please expound on what makes him so. Besides him calling himself one in DIG. What has he done musically that 1,000,000 other bands haven't done better before him? The sitar has been around a long time you know. George Harrison was a genius, Anton....sorry man, don't hear it at all. Have you heard many records from the 60's?
-
Well..he may have "it" by your standards, be one thing he certainly doesn't have is a good singing voice. I can barely make it through one song. Maybe I should try harder. I had that double CD retrospective and it made me just want to listen to my old Love and Rockets and Stones records....
-
I do not get these guys at all. When I listen to Anton, I keep thinking there is a reason the "Dandy's" were more popular. It just sounds SO derivative.
