  1. I'm absolutely ecstatic about this release.
  2. Yes! One of my favorite Dylan records. Phenomenal guitar work. Great album, although I'm partial to Texas Flood. Why this album for the reissue?
  3. Nicely done. How about "What's Wilco Got in Store?"
  4. the Levi's Pioneer Sessions: http://www.levispioneersessions.com/ and this:
  5. Lucky! I put off purchasing tickets and I now I can't find any...
  6. Different. The thing that I grapple with above all on JB solo albums is his voice. If I recall correctly, "Whatever" was a solo guitar/voice record, which made it even harder for me to get through. At least here you've got classic JB full-studio work. As a backup/harmony vocalist, I think he was terrific. As a lead vocalist, I think his chops were over-matched by his instrumental and production skills - but he was a tremendous artist nonetheless. Give it a try!
  7. Yes and no. I think he deserves to be judged on his own merit, too. I am a reader of Pitchfork material and do not consider myself part of this crowd, thank you very much.
  8. It very well could be a joke. Taking a jab at two Wilco albums that he wasn't a part of seems like a good way to frame up a review.
  9. I posted the same thing over in this thread. I was wondering if Pitchfork - or any media outlet, for that matter - could review the album without making a Wilco reference, but I knew that wouldn't be possible. However, I'm not sure about the assertion that Bennett was "kicked out of Wilco for being too conservative."
  10. This is correct. And then he just noodles around the F# chord for a moment...
  11. I was wondering if Pitchfork could review the album without making a Wilco reference, alas, it appears in the first paragraph. "He is, even now, best known for getting kicked out of Wilco for being too conservative; that's the same Wilco that would go on to make Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (The Album), mind." Was it really because he was too conservative? I'm not sure about that... http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14468-kicking-at-the-perfumed-air/
  12. I think he is just riffing on the chords & scales of "How to Fight Loneliness."
  13. The e-mail also said South Bend is their last North American show of the year.
  14. Maybe I need to give it another try. I enjoyed parts of the first two listens but grew tired of the production. What's your favorite part about it?
  15. I had a rude awakening at 5:00 a.m. this morning when my whole house shook as the [3.6] quake hit the area. For a kid from Kansas City who's never been in an earthquake at all, it was a little jarring... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local.html
  16. This e-mail brought a smile to my face because of the new Mavis Staples song, which gets me excited about hearing the whole record, and because Wilco's probably got some cool stuff up their sleeve with the label situation and a new record in the works. Like many bands, Wilco puts out a new record every 2-3 years, so with the time it takes to write, record, mix and master, they're on path to stay in that pattern.
  17. Sun Kil Moon's new record, Admiral Fell Promises, is streaming in full over at their MySpace page. It's excellent.
  18. Well, I'd love to find a way to hear it, but Prince thinks the internet is outdated and won't distribute it there. Guess I'll just have to look for an illegal download. From The Daily Mirror: "Unlike most other rock stars, he has banned YouTube and iTunes from using any of his music and has even closed down his own official website. He says: "The internet's completely over. I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can't get it. The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it
