  1. Deep Blue Organ trio is a good group. Check 'em out.
  2. Separate Stack Records, perhaps?
  3. My guess is that it's "So Much Wine," the Handsome Family cover. I had nothing to say on Christmas day when you threw all your clothes in the snow. When you burnt your hair, knocked over chairs, I just tried to stay out of your way. But when you fell asleep with blood on your teeth, I got in my car and drove away. Listen to me, Butterfly, there's only so much wine you can drink in one life and it will never be enough to save you from the bottom of your glass. Where the state highway starts I stopped my car. I got out and stared up at the stars. As meteors died and shot cross the s
  4. Looks + sounds like it was a good time. I should've gone. Anyone in the DMV area go? http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/artsdesk/music/2010/07/09/photos-the-nels-cline-singers-black-cat/
  5. I agree. Their artist roster is extremely diverse and they put out a lot of great music. Wilco, Joshua Redman, Ry Cooder, the Assad Brothers - to name a few - on the same label? That's good work.
  6. I Am Trying to Break Your Records
  7. "You Are Not Alone" is streaming now at Pitchfork! http://pitchfork.com/news/39375-new-mavis-staples-written-by-wilcos-jeff-tweedy-you-are-not-alone/
  8. With the exception of Tweedy playing it solo, I think "California Stars" is also better on record than any live version I've heard, with ONE additional exception: at the Strathmore this year, with Mikael's train-flute-chime solo...
  9. I have a six-hour playlist entitled "Songs You Might Have Heard on 1990s Radio" that I spent a long time building about a year or so ago. It's periodically removed from my iPod, but in the summer, it makes a strong return for barbecues, boat trips and general outdoor merriment. The playlist includes most of everything that's been discussed in this thread, and then some. It's one of those compilations that evokes an "Oh my God, I haven't heard this song in ages!" response with nearly every song.
  10. I'll tell ya why he waited 40 years to sue: he's been dazed and confused for so long, it's not true...
  11. The photo contest is back: http://solidsoundfestival.com/contest/terms-and-conditions
  12. For you DMV-area fans... "Wilco guitarist Nils Cline manages to show off his legit guitar chops at every opportunity without ever stretching the band's credibility as a low-key Americana outfit. Cline's a technician with an ear who fits seamlessly in a group that quotes country western, rhythm and blues, and southern rock. But when he's not playing with the band that penned "Bull Black Nova", he's tooling around in the wilds of avant-jazz. For graduate-level Wilco fans and guitar jazzbos alike, tickets are now on sale for the Nels Cline Singers, his side trio, at the Black Cat backstage. Jul
  13. I won't, and my response wasn't a ploy to open the floodgates. That's correct. I know there's already another thread for people to discuss the latter, which has its own share of opinions.
  14. I'm new to the area, having moved to Maryland from the Midwest (Kansas City, MO) about 10 months ago. Have heard a wide range of perspectives on that topic...there's a lot of passion, for sure.
  15. Did you click on "continue reading" just under the first paragraph?
  16. As would I. Me thinks Wilco should have taken this approach with the '08 residency in Chicago. An album a night, plus covers + outtakes from each era...guess that would have extended it...
  17. Nels popped up on NPR's Song of the Day today: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127592876
  18. After listening to some live recordings by the current lineup with A.M. tunes in the setlist, I'm considering changing my vote to A.M., despite the kind words from IATTBYB. I love A.M., but in the grand scheme of things, I suppose it could use the most "work." The current Wilco can play some tasty country...they just don't do it very often.
  19. I agree - on the vocals. He hadn't quite developed yet, although there are some good performances.
  20. Let me add that I also love ST, and this thread is not intended to say "Wilco needs to re-record or fix this album because [insert issue with album here]." I'd rather hear more new or unreleased material than have them re-record an old one, anyway. This is only a silly, hypothetical, what-if scenario.
