I feel like this is year or two's worth of Via Chicago posts, disagreements, and conclusions all rolled into one person's voice. The key word in that last sentence being conclusions. But thanks for the re-heated burrito

Hoping to see Minneapolis/St. Paul show lined up. I can finally buy a beer at a Wilco show

It's still possible though. Copies will likely get sent out to reviewers, radio stations, etc. a little ahead of time and one of them may let it slip. Excited for the track listing and release date though! I'm generally pretty impatient with record releases but I'll do my best with this one I like it!

Perhaps we'll get to hear a new song or two with the full lineup during this: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/stream-live-performances-from-new-orleans-jazz-fest-2011-20110428

It's really great. Possibly my favorite release of the year so far, in a close race with the Smith Westerns' sophomore effort. I'd echo the previous sentiments as well.

Gotcha. I've just been reading some comments on various music news sites, not just referring to VC, to clarify . I can see why people have been getting a nice-not-great vibe from it on the first couple spins. Time will tell!

I thought of this after reading the first few comments about it.

It will take days, maybe more, to let all the little bits of this one sink in. First impressions are fine, but let's give this record more than a few hours from its release to determine whether certain songs suck or not.

Apparently a new song was played by Jeff this past Sunday? Any further details from somebody who went? I know there was a serious debate going on regarding the merits of attending this particular show. The old politic! Seems like this is some real news regarding new material and I for one am trying to jump any information I can get.

Really enjoying this. Haven't heard their debut effort but I'm liking the dreamy melodies contrasted with some glam-rocky guitar work. Definitely going to give this repeated listens but my favorite release of the new year (only 10 days in ) so far. You can stream this in its entirety over at NPR music's First Listen page: http://www.npr.org/2011/01/09/132715250/first-listen-smith-westerns-dye-it-blonde#playlist

Glenn Kotche on Andrew Bird's "Useless Creatures"
Al.Ducts replied to Al.Ducts's topic in Someone Else's Song

I've really enjoyed the instrumental disc that came with deluxe edition of Andrew Bird's most recent album, Noble Beast. It is called Useless Creatures and apparently it is getting its own release now. Along with this news I found out today that Wilco's very own Glenn Kotche recorded this instrumental album with Bird and bassist Todd Sickafoose. Here's the story: "If you bought the deluxe edition of Noble Beast, the album that beloved whistling singer-songwriter Andrew Bird released last year, you also got a companion-piece disc of instrumental music titled Useless Creatures. On October 25

"We have yet to decide how to release our next record, but I hope these partial impressions will help give some idea of the conversations we’ve been having. Traditional marketplaces and media are feeling stale – supermarkets account for around 70 per cent of CDs sold in the UK, the charts are dominated by TV talent-show acts – and we are trying to find ways to put out our music that feel as good as the music itself. The ability to have a say in its release, through the new technologies, is the most empowering thing of all." The whole thing is definitely worth a read!: http://www.indexoncen

I enjoyed the story, thanks for posting . It is an interesting time to be a Wilco fan. Per usual though, they have us guessing. And I like that.
