Super Furry Animals
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Shakespeare In The Alley's topic in Someone Else's Song
omg... The Furries are my absolute favorite band, no contest. They approach music from a different place than Wilco (or most any other band, really) but ST definitely shares some of their philosophies. Nice to add another SFA fan to this board. I know PopTodd and Tinnitus are fans, and a few others. Best band out there, so it's always nice to meet more fans. -
Most Beautiful Songs that Break Your Heart
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to sgtpepper64's topic in Someone Else's Song
Sparklehorse - Saturday, Maria's Little Elbows DBT - Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife Idiot Wind acoustic Eels - I'm Going To Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart And more. Sad music rules. Saturday's probably the one that most consistently does it though. And it would be even if Linkous didn't kill himself on a Saturday. -
I'll take awkward falsetto/less reverb Jim over the reverb heavy Jim of the earlier records any day. His voice is too naturally good to waste under a wall of reverb. So needless to say, I like where Circuital is heading.

Dawes in Chevy commercial
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to sonicshoulder's topic in Someone Else's Song
But that was four years ago. And a different band. No one mentioned Wilco in this thread at all. For the record, I could care less if Wilco does commercials either. Same system applies to favorite bands like Wilco and bands I actually don't know anything about, like Dawes. If the band's OK with it, I have no right to bitch about it. -

Dawes in Chevy commercial

I'll never understand why this stuff bothers people. Doesn't change the song whatsoever in my mind, and it nets the bands some extra cash. Maybe even some new fans. Win-win as far as I'm concerned. -
Huge TT5B fan. I like it better than LTI (hasn't aged well at all for me) and HN (far too long). New single sounds really good. Kinda forgot all about this album, but now I'm psyched.

The Official Bob Dylan Thread
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to RainDogToo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Totally. Look at all the merch his website sells. I think he just doesn't give a shit, so whatever Columbia/his managing folks want to do (within reason) is fine. -
Yeah, this one's good. Drops off a bit at the end, but the first seven tracks are excellent, and the last is really good too. Definitely better than Echoes.

What's that album with the topless chick? Looks good.

best april fools 2011 stuff?
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to dagwave's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I'm a simple man and a design nerd. Google setting the "helvetica" search results to comic sans was enough April Fool's for me. -
How is this a free show?

Very excited to give that one a listen. First two singles are excellent.

Wonderful cover.

It might be, but it's not the same. Feels like cheating for me. As a collector, I'd rather endlessly look for an album I might never find than be able to walk in a record store and buy a brand new reissue. But I can see how others would disagree.
-
I've only ever had good record store guys myself. I go pretty regularly to my favorite store, and my dad's been going there for even longer, so those guys are like friends of mine. Maybe I'm just buying all the right albums or something.

For the Californians.

I'd probably be pretty cynical if I were a record store employee on RSD. It's a nice idea in theory, but it's kinda pointless for people like me who go to local record stores on a near weekly basis and don't buy much new vinyl anyway. Reissues especially. If there was a rare LP I'd been looking for for years, buying a "limited" reissue of it does not at all mean I've found what I wanted. Stuff like Blur and Radiohead releasing new songs as a Record Store Day exclusive is great, I just question how limited they choose to make them. I know that's the appeal, but taking surefire big sellers lik

Geez, that cover sucks. I've never heard any Robbie solo material. This any good?
-
If Jeff honestly expected people to not hear in-progress songs after he plays them live, he would either stop allowing audio recording (as far as I can tell, the policy hasn't changed) or stop playing new songs live. I highly doubt if his problem is the song being heard and not the camera screens.

Sweet. I'll check it out sometime. Don't have all that many to compare it to, but Neil's life/career seems interesting enough.
-
Is Shakey any good? I've always just been a moderate NY fan until the past few months, so it might be time to check it out if it's worthwhile.

May 31 release date, btw.

Same. SBS is still way near the bottom of my Wilco rankings, but it'll always have a place in my heart. Go Go Boots is another example of a potentially disappointing album by a long-running band that I think is as good or better than anything they've done, because it was my first new release as a fan. Though I've admittedly not heard every DBT album yet.
