If you go back to the top of the thread, you'll see that the two fine upstanding members of the community who started it are... no longer members. This wasn't the only nonsense they were up to last night.

Things I think are right with this country
gogo replied to Tweedling's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I think there are exceptions for stuff like that. When a friend of mine went a few years back, he had to fly out of Canada. I'm not sure what the logistics are and how that works, but that was how he did it. -
Decemberists: Long and Short of It Tour CANCELLED
gogo replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Someone Else's Song
Brianne, I am with you on all of the above! I had tickets for all four nights here, so yeah, the time commitment thing (on my birthday weekend, OMG!) is actually a bit of a relief. But, I was definitely looking forward to these shows, and to the poster. They're wondering on the Decemberists' message board if the posters (and snazzy souvenir tickets) will still be mailed out, but that seems unlikely to me. Also, apparently they've cancelled previous shows (or so Jen S. informs me from the UK) for the same reason, so this definitely seems to be an ongoing thing that they were trying to pu -

This definitely clears my schedule for Thanksgiving weekend. -

I even liked her in the cheerleader movie!

So true. And thereby breaking my dad's heart. He loved Scully best in the early seasons, when she was at her dowdiest.

I thought Faith was a great character, I will definitely watch her in whatever else he puts out there.

She's got the look, but Ro is a bit too butch to be Ginny. It was suggested last night that in a few years, she and "George" will be shopping for tuxes for the alterna-prom.
-
He was actually vaguely offended by that suggestion!

OK, after seeing all the pics of some very cute and very tiny kids, I'm not at all sure that these big galumphs even belong in this thread anymore, but I'm posting them anyway: Here's Eamon, enough of an individual to skip the Harry Potter bit: The kids with some friends, ready to head out trick-or-treating (left to right: Roisin and her friend as Fred and George Weasley; Eamon; Sinead as Hermione; and two other friends as Ginny and Ron [there's much love for the Weasleys around our place, to the extent that Sinead's birthday party a few weeks ago had a "ginger" theme; everyone wore red

The Now Reading thread is now reminding me that I need to stop reading so many magazines and whichever books the kids are reading so that I can discuss them with them, and also watching so much crap TV, so that I can read some real books again, damn it.

Not everything he wrote, but it is one of the things he's known for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Miller Several of his books were banned, and were part of a freedom of speech/pornography trial that went to the the U.S. Supreme Court.

True enough. And they're doing two two sets (four nights) in SF, so I'm hoping I can look forward to some change-up in the set list for the "short of it" night. I still think though, that short songs should = more songs.

Oh man, those costumes are great! The shoes totally make it.

OK, for some reason I don't have pictures handy from last Halloween, so these are from a couple of years back: Eamon the bored skeleton: Roisin the cute little devil, Sinead the cute little pirate, and their friend as the cute little politically incorrect native american: The same little friend, and her little brother in Eamon's old Bob the Builder costume (no one will ever see the pictures of me as Bob's friend Wendy!): Things to expect in this year's Halloween pictures: Hermione. And a bunch of Weasleys. And some other Harry Potter characters. Eamon is still keeping his

From their myspace page: "Marah's sixth full-length studio release Angels of Destruction will be available worldwide on January 8, 2008." They're streaming some of the EP there, too: http://www.myspace.com/marahusa

Even though I vowed to post no more in this thread: I'd be against shutting it down. People are still going to want to talk about it, let a few people vent, no harm done. And this coming from me, who's been known to shut down threads willy-nilly! edit: moderator's privilege, I got to get my last post in under the wire!

I've said it before: it sucks for you all that these shows are cancelled. Honestly, no one's trying to make you feel worse about it.

I think the only movie I've ever walked out of was King Solomon's Mines. I probably would have stuck it out, but the guy I was with was absolutely horrified. My mom fell asleep at The Guns of Navarone when she was on a date with my dad. He said that was nearly a deal-breaker, but they ended up married anyway. True, we did hold out for all of that one! Also, I have watched Trish sleep through so many bad movies... Oh, The Magdalene Sisters. So harsh. I don't think I've ever seen a Pirates of the Carribean, but that definitely sounds like a good call to me.

Yeah, when Wilco is averaging 21+ songs per show this year (including Spiders at most of those!), it seems odd to me that an evening of "short" songs is only 17 songs. If anything, for a show like that, I'd like to hear quick and dirty versions of more songs, rather than longer versions of songs that were meant to be shorter.

Yes. Also, just as many of the UKers here have said that it's not all that easy to fly to the continent for a show, it's not exactly easy for a band to get themselves and all their equipment back across the Atlantic.
