Things I think are wrong with this country
gogo replied to bjorn_skurj's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I still have not seen An Unreasonable Man, and I feel quite guilty about that. During my teenage years, Henriette was very sweet to me during my hanging-around-smoky-comedy-club days, and even though I haven't spoken to her in years, I'm so happy that she's still working on projects that are meaningful to her. -
Who wants to start the World Series thread so I can close this one?

So awful. Best to your family, Alison.

I'm with beltmann/happeningstone on this one. I never really considered Dumbledore's sexuality, but it doesn't particularly surprise me, and it makes sense that JKR would have his whole backstory in her head while writing these books. Oh, and I also agree with this post, particularly the part about now needing some fresh air.

Fantastic! Thanks!

We still need pics of the shoes!!!

Hi-Rose, congrats and welcome back! Every baby I know who listened to Wilco before being born is beautiful and brilliant, so I'm sure your daughter is, too.
-
Jesse, I'm jealous! I'd love for them to head out this way, but I'm not holding my breath. I may need to head back down south soon.
-
Thanks Donna, and you other folks, too. My pictures just go to show that if you take hundreds of pictures of attractive, interesting people in a beautiful setting, you're bound to hit on a few good ones.

Andrew, that page is proof that I have NO SELF CONTROL! And while I'd heard the term gobsmacked before, I've never heard it used in quite that way.

Tim Riggins: nothing hotter than a Texas footballer with a Canadian accent!

They are just kids, but Landry is supposed to be a smart and sensible kid; and his dad is a cop; and Tyra is savvy enough to realize that it would be pretty easy for them to say that Landry hit the guy while he was attacking her, and they wouldn't be charged with anything. It's still not sitting right with me.

It was an insanely beautiful weekend, weather-wise, and the park was at its best. That's my favorite one!

security guard hoe-down! and the last thing of the night, Emmylou and Hazel Dickens presenting Warren Hellman, the founder of the festival, with a gift from the performers For anyone who feels the need for even more pictures (not likely!), all of mine are up here.
-
many shots of Emmylou (I was trying to prove a point, that it is possible to take a picture of Emmylou where she doesn't look amazing; turns out I was wrong)
-
Mekons, with some weird exposure Earl Scruggs Doc Watson (another of my favorites)
-
some views of the crowd (this was Saturday afternoon, at the stage where Gillian was, Steve Earle was up next; I've heard that the stage where Los Lobos played at the same time was just as packed) Sunday: Hazel Dickens (one of my favorites from the whole weekend) David Grisman
-
Saturday: Fionn Regan The Knitters Nick Lowe Gillian Welch and David Rawlings

First and most importantly, Andrew was a perfect SF visitor. Aside from the festival, he did some major sightseeing (bike trip to the Marin Headlands!), he was great company, and he brought lovely hostess gifts. If he's coming to your town, I highly recommend him. A whole bunch of pics: Friday: Augie March Buddy Miller T-Bone Burnett, John Mellencamp, and Neko Case some guy who brought (about half) the crowd to their feet

You totally rock! I've seen it now, but I won't be back to my Tivo for this week's episode until next Monday. So I'll just steer clear of this thread (and maybe the internet in general) until then. OK first of all, Beltmann kicks ass for bringing back last year's thread for this. Nice work. And yeah, I was not thrilled with that plot twist. I love that this show is about life's little dramas (well, not that Jason's drama is so little...), not about the crisis of the week. I'm interested to see where they go with this. The Taylors are the coolest family on TV, easily.

But they never actually mentioned the name of a Wilco "product". Is it the same with just mentioning the name of the band? I'm not talking about using the song, that's different, but just mentioning a band's name, without hyping a specific album or anything? Is that the same thing? Well OK then, you can consider me to have given you a break. Obviously I'm not an informed consumer. Thanks for enlightening me! Oh, and how much is Marquis Jets paying you to hype them on VC?
-
Maybe I'm naive, but how much extra business is Marquis Jets going to get from a mention like that? I would think not a lot, as their target audience has to be pretty small to begin with, and when you start calculating what percentage of that audience would be watching any given TV show... Isn't it possible that sometimes writers use brand names just for the sake of more realistic dialogue? Rather than saying "I'm really thirsty for some Brand X Cola?", doesn't it sound more realistic for a character to ask for a Coke? I'm not saying that once you get to that point, you wouldn't have Coke

The mallards took off mid-way through Gillian's set yesterday. Quite lovely.

That picture is definitely my favorite of what I've seen from the day so far. Neko singing back-up on Pink Houses was a beautiful moment. Ooh, I love the back-drops! They're sheer with forest-y prints on them, because even though the stages are in the park, sometimes there are trailers or tents set up behind them. But the backdrops make the stages all green, all the time. The festival has been fab for the past couple of days (yesterday I saw Fionn Regan, the Knitters, Nick Lowe, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings; and Andrew saw twice that many acts). Andrew is there already fo

Sad as it will be for you all to see her go, I'm glad to hear that Dottie will get to pass on her own terms. Love to you and Patti and all the family.
