Happy memories of Natalie: the November 2004 Wilco show in Portland. I always loved reading Natalie's show reviews, and this one was particularly special to me, as Trish and I had hung out with her around Portland that day (and the night before: raspberry beer and tater tots). Carla Bozulich after that show, with Nat's tinfoil spider: The next night, in San Jose, she gave similar spiders to each member of Wilco. And because she was all about the equal opportunity: (Jay with his tinfoil Saint Genevieve, handmade by our Saint Genevieve) And maybe my favorite picture of Nat

I'm devastated. I loved Natalie, she was hilarious and brilliant and talented. I can't imagine how much her "real life" friends must be grieving right now, but I'm at a loss for words. We've lost an amazing woman.

Yay, Zito! For what it's worth, neither of us knowing a damn thing about baseball, my mom and I are rooting for Rod Beck. Or she would be, if she knew that such a thing was going on. edit: Yes, my mom is incapable of setting the date stamp on her camera. That was taken a week before christmas.

I'd say No. But I still think that a presidential candidate with a theology degree should have the intellectual curiosity to have done some serious reading and thinking about other religions. In fact, I'd say that about any presidential candidate, whatever their educational or religious background.
-
My concern with that question is more based on his theology degree. I'm guessing that his degree is based more on study of the bible, rather than comparative study with Mormonism, but I'd still want a presidential candidate with a degree in theology to have a relatively nuanced understanding of other religions. The "I think it's a religion... I don't know that much about it" part is as disturbing to me as the Jesus/Satan/brothers thing.

Hi, and welcome to VC!

More from that NY Times piece:

I should point out, I'm not actually in the picture. It's just Zito and the kids, I took it. And it was on my mom's camera (actual film , not digital), so I'll have to scan it. It'll be so worth it, though!!!

Since June 2004, which is when this picture was taken. He wore that suit for a few shows I saw that month. And if I recall, Mike missed a few shows around that same time, due to a death in the family, so I think this must have been taken while he was away.

The week before christmas, the kids and I met Barry Zito. He was not only incredibly hot, he was amazingly cool with the kids. I was so flustered, I forgot to close this thread. Someone start another one, and I'll post our picture with BZ in it!

That picture was taken by one of VC's finest.

Since this thread is so huge, and because there are a few other threads about setlist predictions, tickets, etc., I'm going to go ahead and lock this one. Subsequent threads will probably be more specific, which usually makes it easier to find info anyway.

Where to start with The Grateful Dead?
gogo replied to reverandgroove's topic in Someone Else's Song
This thread has had a good run, but let's start a new one, shall we? (closest thing here to the bears) Happy New Year! -
You can post a request in In a Future Age, lots of times people will re-open a show that's been dead for a while. It's weird the way torrents go now, everyone seems to get stuff the minute it's posted, it's harder to find something after some time has passed.

Does the person have any official rental agreement? If they want to try to re-negotiate with the landlord, that might be a possibility, but otherwise they're renting a room which might otherwise be rented to someone who would pay half the cable bill.
-
Good to know! I've been avoiding it, because I figured it couldn't possibly live up to the book. But Mom wants to go, so with this glowing recommendation, now I'm willing to take her. And with that, this thread is officially closed. Start a new one for the new year, somebody!

I'll admit that we're getting one for Mom, but still, if one more person utters the phrase "digital frame" in my presence, that will be their last act on this earth.

I forgot to mention yesterday how much I enjoyed this.

Mart, I laughed so hard at "Christmas with This Guy", the kids thought I'd gone nuts. And Christmas in Kilarney was an old stand-by in our house, so I'll take it in any form. Thanks for all the holiday mixes, everyone! You're making my holiday that much brighter.

I meant "only posters from shows I've attended, and posters by j4lackey".
-
I'm normally in the "posters only from shows I've attended" category, but oh, that Dublin poster looks nice.

The Scary Man with the Red Suit and Beard

I really don't see anyone topping this. -
Happiest of happy days to you, Narziss!
