  1. thanks, lam and scott. it was a fun show to shoot. the bands didn't care about flash, and there was tons of action.
  2. well i've seen 'em a bunch, and i'm not sure i need to see a set that is 2/3rds comprised of "La Novia" and "Pink Lady Lemonade" again...
  3. I'm not motivated enough to go drive in to see Acid Mothers Temple tonight.
  4. it's probably easier for Dave to dump his tour bus sewage there w/o getting hassled.
  5. hopefully i'll get that review done tonight, but here's a sneak preview...Ritzy was kind enough to move over next to one of the pool tables in the back room for a quick shot.
  6. i wasn't covering the show for anyone, just went as a fan (and brought my camera along, as the club allows anyone to bring one), but maybe i'll do a quick writeup along w/ the photos when i get a chance this weekend (still working on a backlog that includes Agalloch, Buffalo Tom and The Joy Formidable). My friends and I had a chance to shoot the shit w/ Tom Watson before the show, while the 2nd band was playing, and that was a lot of fun. Watt and his band are down-to-earth, genuinely nice people w/ no pretensions. and the show kicked ass. much like OFF!'s new record channels early Flag and

  8. OCB, you gonna go to Watt's show @ TTs this Wed?
  9. it's been so long since i bought speakers (25 years) i wouldn't know where to begin, but some advice i can offer is to bring a handful of cds of different musical styles that you are very familiar with, for assessing the sound of the speakers.
  10. what was the video content you were talking about?
  11. Watt and Hurley are gonna be doing Minutemen songs @ the ATP that Jeff Mangum is curating in Dec, in the UK.
  12. someone's paying. that's the point. it's not like a one-off 'free' gig from a guy who sings like a hiccuping monkey suddenly qualifies him as philanthropist of the year. look, i'm really sorry that you can't go see Neil, you can't sit in the luxury boxes for this weekend's Final 4, and you won't be having Wolfgang Puck cater your summer cookouts. sometimes life is unfair.
  13. actually, for all those NYC shows the bands get paid...i saw Sonic Youth for free last year in Brooklyn, and they didn't do it out of their own good will. same goes w/ the free shows @ Summerstage and the Brooklyn pool shows. but hey, if you wanna take the 'win,' feel free to stock on those internet points. sounds like you need them.
  14. Can is an amazing band. Jaki is an incredible drummer, one of the best. other bands I dig that i don't think were mentioned include Ash Ra Tempel, Brainticket, German Oak, and Harmonia.
  15. yeah, that's ok. you can think what you want. when did i deny that DMB had a good tour draw? you cited a one-off free show 8 years ago. good for you. the other example was flimsy at best. this argument is going nowhere. you think Neil's a greedy arsewipe, and i feel he can charge what he wants to.
  16. the bands get paid, the city or state just picks up the tab. DMB=living hell. no way i'd ever willingly subject myself to stand within earshot of them. you couldn't pay me. well, maybe i'd take a trade for a NY ticket.
  17. having to listen to DMB isn't something I would consider free of any sort of burden, financial or otherwise.
  18. well, nobody would. yeah, definitely an April 1st thing, but the kernels of truth are in there. at least from my perspective.
  19. i'm sure that the April 1st date has a strong correlation to this, but it's almost plausible. i will say that the audiences in 07 and 09 were much better behaved than the '02 shows i saw. http://neilyoungnews.thrasherswheat.org/2011/04/free-neil-young-warmup-concerts.html
  20. as a fellow photographer, i'll toss my thoughts into the ring... lovely photo, Joshua. the debate about watermarks will rage endlessly, and ultimately it's the creator who holds the decision. i have recently changed my position, from using nothing to now what really just constitutes a logo/brand that occupies a corner. of course, that is susceptible to cropping out, but i guess i am ok w/ the balance of asserting copyright but not tampering too much w/ the image. everyone makes their own decisions. josh, i am surprised to hear that NBC used a photo and didn't compensate you...what are the
