So I was listening to Neil Young's "Greendale" today- great record-it's got drama, humour, it's got elements of personal as well as social, and all tied up nicely with a narrative thread. It's like a novel. It got me thinking- what other records do this, or something similar? Some old ones like "The Wall" and "Tommy," but is there anything more recent?

If it is the Roland Cube, don't trust it. One of the practice areas I frequent is unfortunately stocked with one of these so I have some experience with it. On the surface, it's many of the things the valvetronix is: 15 or 30 watt modelling amp for practice and hope use. However, by comparison, the Valvetronix sounds a hell of a lot better. Perhaps it is because it has the preamp tube inside. No I'm not advising you to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything, but running any one of those nice guitars through that thing is like putting a wagon wheel onto a Cadillac. Now that my r -

one of my favourite tricks on my valvetronix was, during the noisy bits, letting it feedback while switching the amp modeling in time to the rhythm. -
I can't imagine an American acting similarly

Of course. I'm not concerned with whether or not the story is factual, it reveals a certain truth about American culture even if it isn't, perhaps even MORE if it isn't. And just so you don't think I'm America-bashing (which I'm not, or at least not intending to) you shouldn't ignore the flipside of the coin, which is that the culture of litigation has actually provided a service to the general public in terms of increasing the overall level of public safety. -
If you still don't like it at least the experience will be over quicker.

Must be frustrating to look at that brand new beauty that you can't play. Hope you heal quickly. -

No, it has nothing to do with airline, security agencies, or terrorism. My point was that litigation is omnipresent on the American cultural landscape, and that it even rears its ugly head among those who you wouldn't expect. So if you say that the average American is not litigation happy, it may be that he or she simply hasn't had the opportunity to sue anyone yet. I'm exaggerating here, as I would tend to agree that the majority (i.e. 51% or more) of Americans are not like this, but at the same time I do think that the minority who are to some degree are pretty high profile and also fai -

Not sure if I agree with that. After I graduated college I was renting the house i grew up in from my parents with some friends of mine and friends of my brother's. One of them managed to burn the place down. Then he turned around and, presumabbly under the influence of an ambulance chaser, decided to sue my parents. Needless to say, that spelled the end of any friendship. But don't worry, the story has a happy ending: My parents (or at least their insurance company) won the case, and my by now former friend "turned his life around:" he had been working as a bartender but decided to ch -

Why so much hate for the Doors and the Eagles? Would you really prefer to get rid of them than, say, Color Me BADD? -

I'm waiting on a custom built overdrive pedal I picked up on the local version of ebay. This should keep my GAS in check for...for...for...a week at least. -

What the hell is that thing? It sure looks, funky, and it sure has nothing to do with the chicken heads. Is that a built in speaker? -

choose your fashion color: me, I'll stick with the classic version: preferably on Gretsch Orange. -
Hey I know nothing of this film except that it has made record amounts of money and the characters are blue. But my eight-year-old just asked me if I would take him, and I have no idea if it would be appropriate. Thoughts?

Why should you be ashamed of the Brian Setzer Gretsch? It looks like a great guitar. O.K., those knobs might be a little cheesey, but that's an easy switch. (I would go for black chicken heads. Don't understand why these never show up on guitars. Maybe it's because they would make volume swells more difficult. But they look cool as hell.) And as for your short list, I wish this was an actual list of my own personal collection. -

I'll be happy to take my share of the blame as long as I can live vicariously through you. It will be some time before I will have that pleasure again myself. -
Would the drive from Canada take you anywhere near Hibbings? Then you could do a Dylan pilgrimage. Is Garrison Keillor still doing his radio shows live? A friend of mine is the manager at Greatwater Brewery (I think I got the name right) in downtown St. Paul. You could stop in and say hello for me.

Do you think they'll play anything new January material on the spring tour? Or will they keep it under tight wraps? I imagine it will depend on how the sessions go.
