  1. Actually i just listened to a bunch of it and was mildly surprised that i mildly enjoyed it. Then I went and out me on some YHF, and promptly forgot that W(TA) existed.
  2. Kamera- the lyrics, the backing vocals, the percussion, and also the fact that it's "lightness" comes as somewhat of a releif after the "heaviness" at the end of IATTBYH. And yes, I never tire of talking about YHF either, so I might have to change my mind later just to have an excuse to keep talking about it. And geeze, I still miss Jay...
  3. I live in a place where if you smile at a stranger,or (God forbid!) say hello to one, people will narrow their eyes and turn away. I was back over on that side of the pond once when someone i didn't know smiled and said hello to me, and i had become so accustomed to the "don't trust strangers" thing that i nearly jumped out of my skin. yikes. having said that, a stranger and i exchanged smiles today
  4. It's maybe the third or fourth brightest star in what is a pretty dark sky.
  5. I'm a 38 year old musician originally from the Chicago area (this is getting redundant), first saw Wilco between A.M. and Being There, and am recording a record which when finished I am sure I will take some flack for shamelessly self- promoting. Welcome.
  6. it's been raining here for a couple of weeks, and now the flooding is pretty bad as well. So, to help deal with the lack-of-summer-doldrums I started thinking about songs about rain, or at least with the word rain in the title. Bob Dylan- A hard rain's a-gonna fall Jayhawks- Settled down like rain Beatles- Rain CCR- Have you ever seen the rain Prince- Purple rain Eurythmics- Here Comes the rain again Violent femmes- I hear the rain Greatful Dead- Box of Rain there have to be hundreds of these out there...anyone?
  7. The guitar work on both IG and SWTS are highlights of the record for me, the latter being every bit as good as the former.
  8. Once they wouldn't let me buy beer at the grocery store because my driver's license was off by a foot: I'm 6'2" and it said i was 5'2". I was probably 33 or 34 at the time. I was irritates at the time, but now a mere four or 5 years later i would be flattered and/or relieved, and more intoxicated at the unwitting compliment than the six-pack could get me.
  9. I remember once hearing a story about a young rock and roll guitarist (i think it was Keith Richards) hearing an old blues record for the first time and asking "who is that?" and getting the response "Robert Johnson." (I think), and Richards responding "And who's the other one?" But of course, there was no one else. So, in deference to Keith, Robert Johnson/Robert Johnson. If anyone has heard this legend and correct me on the names, please do so.
  10. In addition to many already mentioned: Keith Richards and Brian Jones Paul Westerberg and Bob Stintson Dean Wareham and Sean Eden (Luna) Chet Atkins and Les Paul (not really a duo, but they did do one record together)
  11. I think it's impossible to have an objective opinion about your own work.I'm familiar with this kind of flip flop you're talking about and I think it's impossible to have an objective opinion about your own work. The closest you can come to it is by letting time pass, but even this brings you closer to it by mere inches. Try not to think about it too much, other than to write new material which includes elements which are missing in what you've written, and whose lack of result in said crappiness. It's how you develop.
  12. I have to put these into tiers, sorry, can't do better than that. top tier: BT, YHF second: AM, ST, AGIB third: SBS (for lack of consistency, there is definitely some second tier material there. fourth: W(TA)
  13. "Strength" by the Gear Daddies, in your situation.
  14. That is a fabulous poem. I must check out more from Donald Justice. And I think PopTodd was right to wish you a happy birthday, and so i'll do the same.
  15. beyond the obvious reason here, "Coming in from the cold" is fantastic.
  16. i actually haven't listened to it in months, so i guess that says something.
  17. It's been a while since Crow and Sexual Napalm have had a go at each other, I haven't seen it since she was speed racer. Is this going to get interesting?
  18. damndamndamndamn I love that. I hope you will forgive me for saying that I find this is far more moving than nudie suits and free dinner giveaways.

  20. My son, who isn't yet 3 and whose name isn't George, likes to be called George.
