This is horrible news. I always admired his ability to transport you into a parallel universe, to create a sonic alternative reality which was, as per his song, beautiful and sad. I hope he has found peace.

I'd rather look at a new guitar than watch television...but that's just me. Todd, those guitars look stunning but i see no evidence of electronics. Am i missing something? also, Todd, didn't get a chance to congratulate you on the album release at Fitzgerald's. I know this is the wrong thread, but congrats.

I agree, especially after their reunion shows in Spain last year, that this would be entirely possible. But as far as the new material is concerned, I hope it has some electric moments in there. I dig "Ready for the Flood" but hope that Louris doesn't forget to bring his SG to the recording session this time. I think if they did something under the Jayhaks moniker there would be no other way. (And Karen tickling the keys wouldn't be a bad thing either.)

Gary Louris sure looks to be the busy man. Happy he's doing more with Mark O., but kind of wish it were a full-on Jayhawks thing. Oh, well, take what you can get.

Thanks VCers for the recommendations. I have been started to fill this gap in my knowledge of the history of rock and roll and will continue to do so in the coming days, as I'm enjoying every minute of it. Thgough some of it is over 40 yrs old, it still sounds fresh (with the occasional obvious exceptions- but there are only a handful of these).

So i finally got the chance to take the new dano out for a proper spit yesterday at a gig. It did fine. on the minus side: the neck is not ideal- the action is set up a smidgeon too high but not unplayably so. There is comfortable access to about the 15th fret, so you can't play too high up the neck. on the plus side: unique sound which is surprisingly versatile. The bridge pickup setting has some chime and jangle, and can get pretty twangy for those who like that sort of thing (like me), turn the tone knob all the way treble and put it on the neck pickup and you can get some nice p

I can help with Prague. Most guidebooks will tell you what you need to know about the historical stuff: old town, Charles bridge, Prague castle. The eats are relatively cheap and tasty but can be heavy. Try the fried cheese. Be careful of restaurants in places heavily-trafficked tourist areas, they are usually a rip off. Places like this one are good to know about-in the heart of the old town and still relatively local. (or at least it was last time I was there 6 yrs ago or so). Also, head to the Globe and ask a resident ex-pat where the latest hotspots are. Pick up a copy of The Prag

I don't necessarily see them as derivative. The Feelies have been mentioned, and while there is some truth there, perhaps it's because they inherited Stan Demeski in the Feelies' will. But the Feelies also had a manic edge, which Luna (or Galaxie 500) never did. The Feelies were high school kids on speed, Luna were the stoned and in college. As for VU, well, yes their third album was a kind of template for all of Dean Wareham's stuff, but only the third one. Don't hear much of the John Cale avant drone or the "pop hits" of Loaded.
