  1. Depends what kind of fan they are... I have some friends who are really big folk-country-rock type of people, and I got them into Hotel Arizona, Passenger Side, I Must Be High, and other cuts off the first two albums. They didn't care for AGIB stuff! Figure out what he or she likes, and then send them some songs to match. They will expand from there, I'm sure.
  2. Gotta say I had to introduce myself to Paul at Solid Sound last year, because, well, I have the same name as him (weird, huh?) I don't expect him to remember me, because apparently many Wilco fans are also wonder why he is at every show that they've been to. Also, I check bbop's show reviews to see if I missed anything at the shows that I attended myself...if that tells you how great they are.
  3. If that was true, these ticket prices would be a steal considering what it costs to see Neil Young play these days...crying shame if you ask me. "Cough up the bucks, cough up the bucks!"
  4. April 16 is record store day if anyone is interested in that. Might be cool to go to a big record store in Chicago on that day!
  5. What do these solo benefit shows usually cost? Weren't tickets in the $100s range last time? I can't remember. Thanks!
  6. Of course, it is a collaboration between Bragg and Wilco under the supervision of Guthrie's daughter, so there will be multiple people involved to make that descision. I would love to see a boxset with nice pressings and packaging. What Mermaid Ave. offers in terms of pressing quality and packaging leaves much to be desired
  7. The KT boxset was like $55 or $60 on the Wilco store on Black Friday last november. I wish I would have bought a few extra copies of Mermaid Ave when the Billy Bragg store had a them last year, but I only bought one for my girlfriend. I kick myself every time I see one sell on eBay for like $80.
  8. These guys are great. I saw them open for Autumn Defense on their last tour.
  9. Can you hook me up with the contact info, because this happened to my T-shirt as well. I was pretty mad, but then I do have way too many Wilco shirts.
  10. I didn't want to mention earlier, but I was in contact with Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion on their facebook page where they told me a month or so ago that they would probably be at Solid Sound. That post has since been removed, but I'm glad that they made it through. Very excited about Thurston. Hoping to see him walking around the festival because I could totally see him doing that. Liam Finn is also a perfect choice. Holy shit and Levon Helm! God damn I'm happy about this lineup.
  11. dBpm... decibels per minute. It says "loud!" It a friggin ROCK label name! I think I like it.
  12. Glad to hear you got your tickets. And yes, this really isn't about the money. These experiences are unforgettable. If its 1/2 as good as last year, it will still be worth $100 for a ticket.
  13. Got a pair of early early bird tickets at the 2010 price. Saved about $25 bucks. Tip: don't try to guess your password. Have them email you a new one!
  14. I'm guessing no band announcements until after the early worm tickets go on sale. I'm not surprised to see a price increase from last year. However, I'm surprised it was only a $15 increase. Still the best music festival deal around (if you love Wilco, of course.) I'll be getting tickets come Friday, for sure. Last year they didn't sell out fast at all, but I'm wondering if this year will be different due to the great response from last year's festival.
  15. Let me say that Liam Finn used tons of looping, and I loved it. That being said, Jeff Tweedy plays off that folk element, and using looping would ruin the whole approach to his performances.
  16. Apparently we're booked at Maple Terrace! Looking forward to this now, even though I just heard the news only 2 hours ago, haha.
  17. The show was great! We got there early and had a chance to chat with John and Pat for a good 10 minutes. I learned that John loves Bell's Two Hearted Ale! I didn't make an effort to remember the setlist, but they closed the encore with a cover of Big Star's "You Can't Have Me" which sounded awesome. Tweedy showed up with his fam about halfway through the opener's set. They were no where to be seen once the show was over. Real incognito, Jeff, haha. This venue is seriously one of my favorites ever, I think. The sound was fantastic, seats were comfortable, staff was really nice, and the bar
  18. Oh darn! I hope you can sell more. Autumn Defense was awesome at Solid Sound, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again. A friend of mine plays bass for a burlesque show that performed at Acorn. He said it was an awesome venue, and I'm really looking forward to Saturday.
  19. I'm there dude! Any word as to how many tix have been sold so far?
  20. One more comment about SFA, and I'm done. For you guitar geeks out there, Gruff is left handed, but he plays right handed guitars flipped over upside down (strings and all). So basically he plays all his chords upside down. Its really confusing looking, but quite interesting. Especially standing literally right in front of him when I saw them live. Also, I got chewed up carrots spit on me during a song. Something Gruff also does that doesn't make sense, but it's a necessary part of Receptacle for the Respectable.
  21. You should know that I'm a SFA fan as well...as well as my girlfriend who doesn't frequent this board so much. It's a shame that they don't tour the US much, but last time they did (a couple years ago) I got my first chance to see them. Such a great show. They barely filled the little club, too! It was at the Magic Stick in Detroit. Gruff Rhys is a genius, and I love how they hold up the sign at the end of their set that says "NO PHONY ENCORES," and then they do not do an encore.
  22. Package came today. The record looks great, and I'm sure my girlfriend will be stoked to get this as a surprise. Kicking myself for not ordering a few more seeing as they are quite rare. Anyways, hope a couple via chicago people get them instead!
