  1. I concur. There's an .MP3 here for "Worst Trip" from the new record to check out.
  2. Nope. Catching them in Charlottesville.
  3. What, no "Swamp Livin" ? Guess those days are behind them. Can't wait to catch 'em in May.
  4. 1.) Parachute Man 2.) Super Ball 3.) Miniature NFL football helmet 4.) Apollo Rockets (child of the seventies) 5.) candy on a string!
  5. Flat top Martins from the 1840's to the 1920's represent the earliest generation of the modern flat top design. They have great workmanship, but small bodies designed for gut strings only. Because of this, these models have limited appeal and hence are less collectible than steel string models. Twelve and fourteen fret steel string models from the mid 1920's to 1944 are the most collectible of all Martin instruments. They have excellent craftsmenship, sound, and playability, and these model are of great interest to collectors and players. Some musicians prefer the sound and feel of 12 fret
  6. Copyright infringement issues prevent a top 5 placement. Good stuff tho
  7. Bill the.. Ray Smuckles Fritz Krazy Felix (Honorable Mention: Cassandra "Roast Beef" Kazenzakis)
  8. Crowjack got #5. That's from a Van Morrison track off of Poetic Champions Compose. #4 Is Keith Richards. It's from one of the solo records, I can't recall the track. In fact he may not actually say "it only tightens 'em" but that's as close as I can get with Mr. Mumbles and it always stuck with me.
  9. 1.) "bongo jams a speciality" 2.) "I got Blisters on me fingers" 3.) "Where's that confounded bridge" 4.) "It only tightens 'em" 5.) "Did ye get healed"?

    ALTWYS

It's great because it's discordant, and messy. It often feels likes it's about fly off into utter chaos with no regard for structure at all. I think the thing that really makes me stop and listen wherever I happen to find it playing is Tweedy. He may not have the chops many of the greats have but this is a great wanking piece of work, and I mean that in the best possible way.
  11. Ehh....Not really Black Keys. I get more of a Phsyc/Garage rock kinda vibe from 'em with a dash of British Invasion flavor. (I realize this helps not at ALL....best I could do tho) Listening to We All Belong you hear lots of Beatles, Bowie, and a little Band influence. I saw them a few years back when they were opening for MMJ; (pre-Easy Beat) and loved them. I've just spent the last two days listening to the new one. It's terrific. They are a blast live. High energy, lots of fun. And I get to see them again in May! This is my top record of the year so far. Highly HIGHLY reccomended.
  12. Walked out in the middle of a Rouge Wave show last year....(I'd gone for the opener and I can't even recall who that was). Left during the middle of a Heavy Trash set. Again, I'd gone for the Sadie's. Had food poisoning at a Neko show once. Broke my heart to leave that one... Never fallen asleep at a concert, but have at various plays. I was sitting in front of the well during Macbeth(?) and when I awoke there was a body in there with the head dangling out over the edge staring at me. Freaked me out!
  13. Being that I downloaded teh stream rip and have yet to listen to it I'm certainly way to lazy to attempt to go looking; (or asking) for promo version files. That said, I'd like to take this opportunity to reiterate what a terrific idea/practice it is for record companies to offer free album quality files as downloads for vinyl consumers; ( I say this not even aware when and if Sky Blue Sky will be available on wax ). So if anyone out there listening is from the Wilco camp....reading this due to all the "leak" talk... .
  14. Hmm... The Gretsch Electromatic Hollowbody series is around $1k new I think. Played a few of these and like 'em. Same body style as a Tennessean but on the cheap. Open back tuners could prove a little wonky, but the pickups are bright enough. And w/ a bigsby. Depends on the feel and sound your going for really. The Korean Epi's are ok ( play a bunch, I've seen some inconsistency in the way the frets are dressed at the ends). You can do a nice used late model Rick 330 or 360 for about that same money if you look around.
  15. Really. I wish she'd show some enthusiasm. Sounds brilliant, I'd forgotten this show was coming up. Can't wait to catch 'em again.
  16. Stumbled across her music last year and really enjoy both "Begin to Hope" and "Soviet Kitsch". Love her little vocal inflections and the quirky nuances therein. I'm a fan.
  17. I saw this band live, had never heard of 'em and thought to myself "meh" Didn't grab my attention at all. Then got a hold of Runners Four. Again I didn't pay much attention initially. Noticed I kept hearing these neat little songs coming up during shuffle that were intriguing. Burned a copy of the record and lived with it on the drive home for a few days and came to really like it. It's not just you. Freaked me out too!
  18. I own a few of these; (two Silvertones and a Stella) one of which I play pretty regularly and we tend to think of them as producing a "cigar-box" type sound. On the tobacco sunburst Silvertone that gets the most use I've had the neck "Heated and Straightened" to compensate for high action it developed over the years, in lue of a neck re-set. I've found miking these things directly pretty difficult, they come off very "tinny" metallic and abrasive. I've gotten better results with a floating pickup. They sound "awesome" in a dropped tuning and slightly distorted. Fun stuff. Pay special att
