^^ the volcalist is India, who's done a bunch of classic house tracks for Masters At Work - "I Can't Get No Sleep", "Love & Happiness" etc. This is a fantastic album, I've had in it on rotation for many years now. Just saw Louie Vega do his thing in Miami last week actually, dude's still got it. one thing - you really have to like disco and house music to love this album. I only put that disclaimer since we're on a wilco board

Man In The Sand Dvd - Does Anyone Want To Sell Me A Copy?
Turnips replied to kewi's topic in Just A Fan
it took me 5 seconds to find an active torrent, if you want to go that route... That said, I bought a copy and definitely don't regret dropping the cash! -
I get into Miami on Tuesday for the winter music conference. Can't tell you how bummed I am about missing wilco by a day! I'm also missing Spoon in Toronto while I'm gone. arrgh

omg sporcle rules there goes any hope of office productivity today...

VC is the obvious example but this band uses dissonance and head-fuck sonics on a LOT of their songs. I particularly love how they end songs with dissonance, just slowly fading the instrumental parts into a bath of white noise. This technique can sound awful but Wilco execute it brilliantly imo. I have to say - I wonder how you can be a fan of Wilco if you're not into that stuff!

Stage lighting and backdrop - winter 2010 tour
Turnips replied to SeattleC's topic in After The Show
Yeah I agree. The candles and "candleabra" or whatever was cool, but the way they go on/of rhythmically was kinda lame to be honest. A little amateur looking. What with the insane amount of awesome gear all over the stage, Wilco really doesn't need to do much to spice things up. -
OK I'm sold. Gonna try it this weekend for sure, will report back
-
yeah I live really close too and have never noticed the place. Will make it a point to check it out this week

really great show last night. the setlist (minus awesome staples like Impossible Germany, IATTBYH, You Are My Face etc) was totally different than Massey Hall in October. This show had more twang to it than any of the other 4 shows I'd seen before, which I was really happy about. Although my head still kinda hurts from being so close to the front stacks (I was right in front of Nels). advil this morning... First time in Hamilton too - an interesting town. Hit up a great record store (Cheapies) and some cool pubs overall a great day and night!

If/when I order another, it'll be one of these two or

cherry ghost shirt for sure

argh! I get to Miami (from Toronto) the night after Wilco plays MIA, and I get home the night after Spoon plays TO missing my two fav bands within a week, so annoying
-
check the Doves one, it's fantastic

Finally got to hear this last night. It seems they've avoided the catchy hooks from Ga Ga and gone for a more understated, low-slung groove. Admirable, since Spoon were seeing more mainstream play/movie soundtracks with their previous formula. I like this new one in the same way I liked their older stuff. Vinyl will be purchased for sure, what is the official release date for this?
-
I'm not talking about commercial success, more just that they never really deviate from what works so well for them - for better or for worse. I adore every Spoon record but I have trouble distinguishing their music from album to album. I don't have this issue with my other favorite bands. anyways, doesn't really matter since the music they make rules
-
Well said, I love every Spoon album but they often get accused of underachieving, which is something I'm inclined to agree with. Still pumped to hear this new one though, will be picking up the vinyl when it drops

hmm, can't embed the 2nd one. worth watching though! Part II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM&feature=related

saw a lot of show this year, top 5 would probably be: My Morning Jacket @ MSG, New York Phoenix @ The Phoenix, Toronto Pixies @ Olympia, Dublin Broken Social Scene w/ Stars, Feist, Metric etc. @ Harbourfront Centre, Toronto Wilco @ Massey Hall, Toronto

2010 NW US/Trans Canada tour announcement coming soon
Turnips replied to Maddie Hope's topic in Just A Fan
well Hamilton is sold out, so you're going the 3rd party route. I ended up getting them from stubhub - normally hate using those guys but I came out OK here's what they got left: https://www.stubhub.com/wilco-tickets/wilco-hamilton-hamilton-place-theatre-2-23-2010-900088/?isGen2Event=1 -
I thought this thread was about Glenn Kotche losing an arm

just nabbed tickets to Hamilton on Feb 23rd. 4th row bitches! looking forward to checking out califone as well can't wait -
this year's alternative category is actually decent. All these albums are highly enjoyable. •Everything That Happens Will Happen Today David Byrne & Brian Eno [Yep Roc Records] •The Open Door Death Cab For Cutie [Atlantic] •Sounds Of The Universe Depeche Mode [Capitol] •Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix Phoenix [Loyaute/Glassnote Records] •It's Blitz! Yeah Yeah Yeahs [DGC Records/Interscope] the other noms are mostly horrid, especially the main 20. As someone else mentioned in here, it's like they're not even listening and just going off sales figures, and who "should
