  1. I don't think you can go wrong with any of his stuff really. I started with "The Giant Pin" and that's a really solid record, with a good mix of sort of spacey stuff and really brilliant wailing. If you like left-field jazz try either his set of Andrew Hill stuff, or Interstellar Space Revisited.
  2. I know cycling76 was linked on Wilcoworld for a while, and I would guess it was what they're talking about. There's also a program called metasynth that produces sound based on drawings you make...pretty cool. I haven't done nearly enough work with real-time electronic manipulation and creation to know that much. Most of my computer experimentation/manipulation has been in programs like protools.
  3. Hell yes, I'm putting that on right now
  4. Definitely My good friend here at school is their lead singer/guitarist, he's a pretty awesome dude, and they're definitely a fun band. Edit: I also just checked their label roster again, and realized that I went to high school with pretty much all of the guys in the Plagiarists.
  5. Seriously. I think Wilco was great with Jay (YHF is my favorite album by far), I think Wilco is still great with Nels, etc. I don't think they've lost any edge or have become too stale/bland in their playing. Jay brought a really rich sense of arrangement, Nels brings a really rich sense of tonality, melody, and timing. Both of them compliment Jeff's work well. Personally I just like that Wilco is always evolving, and as much as I would love another YHF sounding record I'm excited for SBS and haven't heard it yet
  6. Yeah, I'd start with that. Then just look around and see who's playing coffee shops and clubs locally.
  7. I think Tony would be your better bet. No guarantees that it would go through, but that's more direct.
  8. The Masked Hater II? Here comes some scarf bashing

  11. I'm so excited, he's playing here in May The best weekend before finals excuse not to study
  12. Nels I think says it best on this one. Andrew Hill is an amazing musician and jazz visionary and he will be much missed.
  13. I'm going to Pitchfork, thought it was really well run and a nice setup last year, and I'm definitely looking forward to the Youth, though Saturdays lineup is pretty subpar at the moment. Other than that, I was considering Bonnaroo, but it's just too much cash at this point. I'll probably hit up the Iowa City jazz festival, and then if anything cheap/free happens in Minneapolis I'll go to that. Right now I'm just stoked about my Davenport Wilco tickets and soon I think I'll pick up some tickets for the Minneapolis Tortoise show. Now I'm just hoping for a couple more good bands and I'll b
  14. On the topic of outrageous claims/lyrics...a few of my favorites: Richochet-Daddy's Money "She's a good bass fisher / A dynamite kisser / Country as a turnip green" Maybe this one is a compliment to fisher-persons, but really dynamite kisser/good bass fisher is just a really off the wall weird ass combo. And the turnip green bit is just kind of funny. I heard this one flipping through on the radio and actually laughed in the car. Lynyrd Skynyrd-That Smell "Ooh, ooh that smell / Can't you smell that smell?" What the hell is this line doing in a song? It's probably one of the stupide

  16. Thanks again. I'm sure there will be some questions about why no one checked the pool (it's so close to campus and they searched everywhere else), but I think that the search both here and by the family really was about as extensive as one could hope for. Hopefully this will be closure for everyone involved, even if it isn't the kind anyone would have wanted, and hopefully it will encourage people to take care of themselves and those around them.
