  1. Just listened through to this disc for the first time, had it sitting around for a while. It's pretty good, I don't know if they're "on the cusp" of making it...but it's got a lot of really interesting textures and solid writing, a strong follow up just might put them in that position.
  2. Totally agree, though doing that on guitar just takes a fair bit of practice and a lot of raw energy. Get an electric, distortion, crank it and just start playing over a 2 or 3 chord pattern, after a while, it'll become second nature to solo like a sonic explosion. I love to play like this (or variations on the Neil Young/Sonic Youth/Yo La Tengo/Nels guitar chaotic beauty style).
  3. I don't have any kids (yet) but Monkey Mess rules regardless, thanks for posting the different versions
  4. I've heard maybe a handful of the songs live, but otherwise, I'm just waiting, no leaks for me.
  5. My music More to come soon, I'm actually working on recording a full-length over the next 2 months.
  6. You know, it's really sad that we spend so much on the military, and the people who always end up getting the shit end of the deal in it are the soldiers. I'm sure a lot of troops out there would quickly trade off some crazy Pentagon research projects for better body armor/vehicle armor, and good medical care.
  7. Tonight I was lazy, ordered pizza. Tomorrow I am cooking for a pair of female co-workers (as I have done the last two weeks), current plan: Avacado/Cucumber/Sprout salad, Steamed Asparagus, Chicken in Peanut Sauce, Lightly fried Potatoes and Mushrooms, and Crab Cakes. Mixed drinks to accompany, to be decided tomorrow. Should be delicious if I don't mess it up.
  8. From my complete lack of Spanish knowledge I'm pretty sure they're talking about Burn to Shine, which is actually a DVD you can purchase, with a bunch of bands doing a song in a house about to be demolished. Pretty cool. You can get the Chicago one for about $12, or all three for $30: Burn to Shine
  9. This alone makes me very wary of the sound. I like rawer, edgier R.E.M. I did like Up, Reveal is ok when songs from it come up on shuffle, I didn't purchase their latest.
  10. I'm pretty convinced that "S.O.S." is probably the most perfectly constructed pop song in the history of pop.
  11. I think it was one of those albums that had such potential to be phenomenal that people were a little dissapointed when it was only great. I just love the way everything comes together everywhere on the album, and how wonderfully big each track sounds. Brilliant.
  12. My favorite of 2005, though I'm sure not everyone's.
  13. I'm sure their stripper skills and fashionable-sunglass wearing bank robbing skills will earn them lots of friends in prison.
  14. Having never heard the Blueridge I couldn't tell you for sure, but you might want to make sure first off that the composition of the wood is the same, that could make a huge difference in sound. That said, if it sounds good to you, it might be worth saving the money, but as a general rule, Chinese made guitars are way more spotty in terms of sound/workmanship/the whole deal, maybe you'll find a winner, and save yourself a bundle, maybe it'll break in a year, or you'll play it later and feel like you would've been better served getting the J45. It's hard to say. Given the choice, I'd save
  15. I use Sibelius and/or Protools. But for this, Garageband would be much easier logistically.
  16. This was for Big Parm in the RTT, but I thought It'd better see the light of day here: AM BT ST YHF AGIB SBS
  17. Could've been the Arcade Fire, you know. They're Canadian, they don't believe in "freedom."
  18. Iowa doesn't have megamillions. But super millionaire vibes to the rest of you.
  19. Don't get me wrong, I love demos, and I love Wilco, but you're clamoring for the demos for a record that isn't even released yet I realize it's speculation but it's a little funny. They'll probably surface sometime. I for one, am really eager for the super YHF box-set that will most certainly eventually come out, with detailed liner notes, loads of demos (some we probably haven't heard ) and lots of talk of record ruining and the like. That will be a grand day.
  20. They were a lot of fun live when they came to Grinnell. I also got wasted with them and hung out for the night. Pretty funky, fun band, lots of energy.
