  1. Just got our tickets. Hotel booked this morning. Can't wait! This will be our first Solid Sound, and our twin daughters' first proper concert. They'll be just over 4 by June. We missed the first two because they were a bit too young. Come to think of it, this will be our first (mini) vacation as a family.
  2. I just found out Nels and Julian Lage are playing in New London, CT (Oasis Room at The Garde Theater) on Dec 20th. This makes me happy as it's only 10 minutes from my house. So that's two nights in a row. Can't wait.
  3. We actually had power throughout the storm, then lost it late Tuesday afternoon(!). CL&P are effing useless. 7 days without power last year after Irene, now going into a 4th day this time. It wouldn't have bothered me before we had kids, but now with 3.5 year old twins it's terrible. Starting to get really cold at night, too. I know it could be worse, and is for many, but considering what a load of thieving assholes CL&P are, I still feel ok about being angry. On a happier note, it's good to find another Wilco fan nearby. Groton? I wonder if we've met...
  4. I'm in southeastern Connecticut. So far just steady rain and the occasional strong gust of wind (getting worse as the day progresses). Local friends are telling me of flooded roads and power loss. I live in a wooded area, so it's almost inevitable that we'll lose power eventually. Hopefully they'll get on fixing it faster than last year. 7 days without. No fun with 2 toddlers in the house. I'm already going a bit stir-crazy.
  5. @Raspberry Jam & bbop: Thanks for the info. Looking forward to both shows - especially Nels & Julian.
  6. @Raspberry Jam: I'm going to the Blitzen Trapper show, too - my first visit to Arch St. Tavern. Is it a good live venue? Also, I did a bit of homework on Julian Lage. He's an incredible player. He and Nels together ought to be something special for sure.
  7. Thanks for the tip on the Hartford show! Just ordered tickets.
  8. I know! It was incredible. I was so hoping they'd release that one.
  9. What an incredible show! I've never heard the band play better, and the sound was absolutely immaculate. Got to meet up with a few friends we've met at other shows, too, so a fantastic evening all 'round.
  10. Dire as it is, it's Sgt. fucking Pepper compared to that abortion he just created with Metallica.
  11. 2nd row for Hartford - right in front of Nels!! Picked up 4 for Newport, too. Very happy indeed. Well, Orchestra C, Row B (105-111) so not technically 2nd, but I'm not complaining.
  12. Please take a minute to sign this petition. https://www.change.org/petitions/justice-for-ryan-o-loughlin The police in Westerly, RI beat this innocent man so severely that he died the next day. And so far they've gotten away with it. I live near Westerly, and I can attest that they have the worst, most corrupt and out of control police force. Thanks for your time, Brian
  13. At first listen I was fairly unimpressed (except for Simple Song), but the more I listen the more I like it. Beautiful stuff from Mercer as usual. I scored great seats for their Boston show, and my wife and I are really looking forward to it. I'm often surprised at how many people are willing to dismiss a band or album after one listen. Some of my all-time favorite albums were "growers".
  14. I stumbled across these guys this morning. Alabama Shakes. Absolutely fantastic.
  15. This. The New York sessions are a must-have. It's like a whole different album.
  16. Did anyone manage to record this? I'd love to get a copy.
  17. I've been a fan since the beginning, and I think this might be their best album yet. Big words perhaps, but I can't stop listening to the copy I got from a kind soul on this forum (don't worry, I've had the vinyl pre-ordered for months). It gets better with each listen. With no disrespect intended toward former members, this is absolutely the strongest lineup the band's ever had. As others have pointed out, John's bass playing here is top notch, and the overall sounds/tones are fantastic. I know music appreciation is subjective, but I'm honestly having a hard time understanding how anyone (esp
