One Sunday Morning (Song For Jane Smiley's Boyfriend)
worldrecordplayer replied to ViaBuffalo's topic in Just A Fan
I haven't closely followed the setlists at end of summer, but they opened with it at MassMoCA, how many shows after that did they not play it? I love the song, but commented at the time I didn't think it was a great opener. I was right u P front, just seemed to me like it's a difficult song to play. But of course I have no idea. -
Grateful Dead - Row Jimmy - 4/12/78

oops, I didn't notice the date in the topic heading. Yes, Duke it is. -
The Chambers Brothers, Westbury Music Fair. Must have been around 1971. "Time Has Come Today" was a big song at summer camp. Then Black Sabbath at the Academy of Music, on the Masters of Reality tour. So was 1971 or 1972. My one and only flirtation with anything of that genre.

Does it count as my first album purchase if I asked my dad to pick it up for me at the E.J. Korvettes store on his way home from work in NYC? -
The (new) Capitol Theater in Port Chester

I happened to catch a replay of that interview. That's Peter Shapiro, from The Wetlands, Brooklyn Bowl and Relix. He's living the life I wish I were And they've already got an excellent schedule in what will surely be an awesome venue. http://www.thecapitoltheatre.com/ -
I thought the '87-'91 period was generally an excellent period for Garcia and the GD band. I got off the bus in the early '80's, around '81 I guess, and was shocked as hell to see how great I thought they were when i went back in September '87. The hiatus did me good. From my experiences, both live and tape trading, the MSG fall '90 and Boston fall '91 were the last great runs. I was surprised to read the liner notes to the current spring '90 box set as calling that the last great period (I know they're selling). I kept going until the end, but the '92-95 era were often painful to watch,

It's a powerful song. My problem with it is that it evokes strong feelings of melancholy and sadness. Which speaks to the power of the song, but I just don't like the effect it has on me.

Dash 7 is not a personal favorite, but if you're talking about Wishful Thinking, well now that's another story entirely!

Great picking by you! Having a spouse/significant other who shares your musical likes/obsessions is so awesome. My wife doesn't appreciate all my musical interests (GD, Allmans, i.e.) but she shares many, including Wilco (and XTC back in the day). Makes being Wilco obsessed so much more enjoyable for me.

Top 3 All Time Underrated things on music earth

They are still pretty much a bar/club band. That makes them severely underrated in my book. -
This is how this song should be played...

I'm also now a 5-time watcher, at least, and am good for a bunch more. Totally smoking blistering twanging geeetar. Love it. -
Sunday evening at home, decide I'm going to cure/avoid the Sunday night blues and dig into the music collection while waiting for The Newsroom. Glad to have come across this topic again. I've got pretty much the entire XTC catalogue in either vinyl or disc. We listened to a lot of XTC, they were a favorite, but it's been years since I've put them on at home. Pulled out the collection, couldn't decide so I put on Upsy Daisy Assortment. I'm not usually a fan of greatest hits collections and didn't even remember having this. What a freakin great collection of music. Fell in love with this ban

Los Lobos Jack and Jorma Richard Thompson -
Is there a complete version of that Sessions show circulating? And once again, any time I watch video of that era of Wilco, the first thought that pops into my head: what a difference Glenn makes.

I sure hope Wilco's making plans to play here. This place will be awesome. I'll come down from Boston anytime. http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/ht-interview-bringing-the-old-together-with-the-new-jon-dindas-talks-technology-at-the-capitol-theatre/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HiddenTrack+%28Hidden+Track%29&utm_content=My+Yahoo

I'm totally with you on that. I've had this debate endlessly with friends who, like many here, point to YHF as the holy grail peak of Wilco. I love every single song on YHF, but in the live context. When I go back and listen to YHF, I find it overproduced and doesn't stand up over time; the production, not the songs. And i was pleased to watch an interview with Tweedy that was posted somewhere here a few months ago (it takes place outside a restroom if that jingles anyone's memory) where he pretty much said the same thing directly. That the songs on YHF have thrived in the live setting.

Would generally agree with that, with the exception of Collapse Into Now, which to my ears is their best work in years (or a decade?) and right up there with anything else
-
I'm with you. Other than the 3 Wilco albums and the couple of MMJ albums, I don't think I've got, or am even familiar with, anything else on that entire list. I've been living in an alternate universe obviously.
-
I've tried and tried, but I just don't get Radiohead music. I'm done trying.

No doubt, the director knows his/her Wilco.
