  1. Yep, they sure are. With either very active marriages or very active imaginations!
  2. Borrowed your idea and played that on my way to work this morning too... I love the line "they call me deejay Mini-Mart cuz that's where I work." Very excited about this announcement -- Joe Adragna, a friend of mine, will be drumming for The Minus 5!
  3. Going backpacking on the Chattooga River Trail in South Carolina. Cue "Dueling Banjos" here....it's where they filmed Deliverance!
  4. A fun record and classic Old 97s sound! The theme (drinking and screwing) gets a little tired, though. Reminds me just a bit too much of the Jimmy Buffet song. These songs would be tons of fun live, but nothing near me in the tour plans.
  5. It's a wee bit disconcerting on the one hand, but on the other hand maybe a new bunch of songs and a whole different sound will be positive. I'm trying not to jump to conclusions or start worrying just yet...
  6. Oh, if only I'd read this before I ran to Target and bought a cheapie $17 drip coffee maker. But I do need to replace my French press (use it primarily for camping) and I'll definitely be giving the Aeropress a try! Thanks for the tip!
  7. Best of luck and good outcomes to both of you, Donna and Hixter! Also tragic, my coffee maker broke this morning. Red light turns on but no action at all. Talk about a PANIC!!
  8. Oh, now I'm connecting the dots. You were in forced proximity and there was no spark. Two quick questions: what year was it; and, was Mac cool to work with?
  9. You're right, it is great. Reading it now. I think it was you who said you loved a good coming-of-age story. Lean on Pete fits that bill perfectly.
  10. Just as i suspected, user error. Thanks a lot! Love how crisp that B&W is. We need more, lots more!
  11. I can't get this link to work! I've tried on two computers. Do I need facebook or something?
  12. Does not compute! I do love Superchunk but this statement makes no sense to me. How do you happen to find yourself at a show for the same band 20 times if you don't like them???
  13. Started the day thinking I was going to see Blitzen Trapper tonight but it's not going to happen. Show is an hour away, babysitter costs too much, blah blah blah. We need a thread called "Live! Tonight! But I'm Too Old & Tired to Go!"
  14. Thanks for that! Even better than I remembered. A Solid Dound DVD would make me so very happy.
  15. This thread is funny. I agree with The Doors, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eagles, and a few others, but the list above could be a thread titled "Some Bands That I Like." Just like the saying goes, opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one!
  16. A Solid Sound DVD release this summer would be the perfect antidote to little/no chance to see Wilco. I'd love to relive any part of any of the three festivals!
  17. So completely bummed, I had no idea this was happening! I guess I should say happened. An hour away and I missed the boat.
  18. Nevermind and Gish. Made my college roommate sick of 'em, too.
  19. Get ready for six seasons of awesomeness! Such a terrific show.
  20. It's a few years old (2007), but I just came across the Stax documentary at the library. (Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story). It was absolutely great, especially all the footage of the early years of the studio. Gotta love Otis! There were 3-4 segments of Mavis Staples and the Staples singers, and I kept being struck by how strange it seems that she and Jeff Tweedy connected and found in each other such kindred spirits. I mean, what are the chances of this powerhouse black female vocalist, at the height of fame during the Black Power movement, later working with a mid-western whi
  21. This may be of interest to Maryland/Virginia fans of Autumn Defense. The Annapolis (Rams Head Tavern) show that got canceled due to snow in February has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 7. The weird thing is it's an all-ages matinee performance. Seems kind of strange. Two days later, Jeff plays in Baltimore and then DC. Probably just coincidental timing, but I wouldn't complain if Jeff had some surprise guests!
  22. Wonder if there's a way to post them on www.sooutoftune.org? Keep us informed -- wherever they end up, I'd love to listen!
  23. Read Northline by Willy Vlautin after Fritz' glowing reviews. It was a terrific read -- very starkly written, and very compelling. The soundtrack that comes with the book is gorgeous and sad -- guitar, harmonica, pedal steel and piano. A perfect companion piece. ** edit: Actually, the soundtrack isn't just sad, it is heartbreaking. I don't know what it is about pedal steel, but it just reaches inside your chest and grips tight and doesn't let go. It's both a physical and emotional feeling. Very powerful. Looking forward to reading The Motel Life, his debut novel, next.
