  1. At $1.99 an episode, Amazon might be the way to go. A very small price to pay for a show that blew me away from the pilot and just kept getting better! Of course, just as soon as I pull the trigger and buy it, Season 6 will show up on Netflix...
  2. Well, thanks, Mr. Heartbreak! I actually thought Saul and Skyler would end up together. Now I don't have to worry about watching the rest! Thanks for the suggestions, folks. I wasn't planning to get cable or buy the DVDs, so that's out. KevinG, if you are in the mood to share some less than honorable ways to find it online, please PM me! tinnitus photography, chances are by the time you get all the way to season 5, the rest will have been released to Netflix. That's my hope, anyway! After all the buzz about the finale dies down, that is...
  3. I got completely hooked on Breaking Bad this summer and watched all the seasons on Netflix, until they left me hanging oh-so-cruelly after Episode 8 of Season 5. I've tried to find the rest of the show elsewhere online, with no luck. It looks like if I subscribe to cable (which I don't), I could watch it on AMC's website. Any suggestions? I'm dying here! (I know this would have been more relevant to post in the Breaking Bad thread, but I don't want to even glance at any of the posts for fear of spoilage!)
  4. That Jacksonville City Nights record is more proof he hates country!
  5. You win! Pretty sure the prize is a Wilco t-shirt. Today on NPR I heard a few seconds of Loose Fur's "Wreckroom" as filler between segments -- think it was that new show "The Takeaway."
  6. Yes, that was a good (albeit wordy) read. Ironically, Mumford & Sons is playing in my town this weekend as part of their small-town America "Gentlemen of the Road" tour. I had no desire to attend but they sold 25,000 tickets. On the positive side, Neko Case is playing near here next month and I have my ticket!
  7. Yeah, two nights of Wilco and a Jeff solo set on Sunday would be the shit! Maybe for SSF number four....
  8. The same one you were, apparently. The first year of SS, Wilco played only on Saturday night, and I just needed more. Don't get me wrong -- I loved hearing Jeff sing on Sunday afternoon, but I didn't get the full dose of Wilco I'd wanted. When they changed the lineup to headline Friday and Saturday nights the following year, that definitely scratched the itch.
  9. Great analogy! Well, I've never seen a proper JT solo show in a theater and all -- but the solo show on the Sunday of the first Solid Sound just made me cranky and itchy for more Wilco. These are my sour grapes for all you out West people (plus Diane!) who get to go in December. Wanhh!
  10. Dare I get my hopes up for anything East Coast, south of NYC? Never seen JT solo. Fingers crossed!
  11. Certainly musicians' appearance can enhance the experience of a live show. Not to objectify anyone-- these two have talent in spades. But damn! Cases in point:
  12. Interesting read. I happen to disagree with a ton of it, but I had a similar experience when YHF came out. I'd spent a couple of years loving AM and ST (hadn't even gotten to BT yet) when YHF came out. I was pretty immersed in alt-country but when I went to my first Wilco show (July 2002), I was dismayed to hear all these weird sounding songs that bore little resemblance to the twangy stuff I'd come to love. About six months later I saw the "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" film, then a few months after that saw another live performance that blew me away. That one sealed the deal.
  13. So did yours skip? Hope not! Summerteeth is the one studio recording I've never gotten tired of... I've had ELT in my head for about 3 days now! Still love it after all these years.
  14. There's lots of fiddle in the Uncle Tupelo stuff, if you haven't explored that yet. Anodyne is a great place to start.
  15. Really wonderful interview... thanks for posting! Nels' admission that for him, improvising is so much easier than playing something that already exists is so interesting, and it says so much about who he is as a musician. I think I'll hear his guitar parts with Wilco with fresh ears moving forward.
  16. As much as I dig Jeff, I have to admit I never want to see him having sex on tape....
  17. For someone reluctant to even call in a pizza order, being able to confront a bandmate/friend to ask him to leave the band sure seems like a huge step towards maturity.
  18. I'm curious where you're hearing this in later work. There's a helluva lot of twang on some of the the old stuff, too. In one version of Outta Mind (Outta Sight) that I listened to recently, Jeff sounded practically hillbilly! But I've always had a great weakness for how he pronounces "I" as "ah." As in "Ah shoulda been listenin' to evry word you said..."
  19. I was listening to some AM-era demos today and that boyish, cracked voice Jeff had way back then was what drew me to Wilco in the first place. I'm sure I've changed plenty in 20 years, too!
  20. Your glowing review is one of the reasons I spend time on this board.... It's so gratifying when folks express their love for the live Wilco magic. While they're reliably great at every show, some nights they're just ON. My husband likes to give me shit about the fierceness of my loyalty (his favorite line is "there are other bands.") But I don't want the other bands -- the one I love is the best!
  21. Recently I read a Rolling Stone interview with Jon Hamm and, according to the reporter, Hamm likes Budweiser, Wilco, and Words with Friends. And now here he is (in avatar form, anyway) joining our Wilco love-fest!
  22. That was fantastic -- great quality, too! Not your typical cell phone concert video.
  23. Next time we need a serious campaign to make it happen. All the pleases and pretty pleases I've added to my requests have gotten me nowhere!
