Agreed. I love the part when the one dude takes down the Strokes, and then the next dude asks why can't Television be more like the Strokes.

That list was entertaining, but would have been even better if they just let Ryan Adams write all of the blurbs.

I don't really like "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" live. Solo/acoustic is fine. Full-band trying hard to recreate what it sounds like on the album somehow is maddeningly dull to me. -
Depends on the kid, depends on the movie. My kids, for better or for worse, have been reciting lines from Jaws since they were able to speak. (No kidding, I think my second child's first complete sentence was "We're gonna need a bigger boat." ) At the same time, my oldest still gets a bit freaked from time to time by Monsters, Inc (the whole monsters in the closet bit), so go figure. I grew up on horror movies, and saw plenty of them at a pretty young age (mostly without my parents' knowledge). Some of them hung with me and haunted my mind. For example, there's something about The Exorci

See, maybe its just me, but even as much as I agree with the overall sentiment here, something about statements like this completely rub me the wrong way. "Calm the fuck down" was my first reaction, quite honestly. Which is weird because, after stopping to think about it, I most certainly would never bring my kids to that kind of movie, and I would most definitely have a serious "WTF?" moment if I was at a theater for a movie like that and found myself surrounded by kids. Absolutely, that would be all kinds of messed up. And still, even with all of that being said, there's something in the

I like Merriweather, but that might be for sentimental reasons, since I saw so many shows there growing up. It is easily my favorite shed. (I always thought the walk through the woods to get to the venue was kind of neat--is it still like that?) I don't think I've ever not had lawn seats for a show there, and yeah, the sound can be kind of hit or miss depending on the night and your location on the lawn, I guess. If I still lived in the DC/MD area, I'd still happily go to this. As somebody else noted, sure the 9:30 is nice, but trying to get tickets is kind of ridiculous. Wilco is in kind

Not sure about the combat-effectiveness, but between the hormones and the trippiness it sounds like the military could be preparing for one helluva rave.

I've said it before, but I have much love for that first Izzy & the JuJu Hounds album. Good stuff. Also, that band had Rick Richards from the Georgia Satellites on guitar. Aside from their one-hit-wonderdom with "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" in the mid-80s, the Satellites were a pretty great, gritty southern-rock band. Anyone agree? (crickets)

I have their "In the Fishtank" album with the Dirty Three. I like it...and I always meant to check out more of their stuff.

"Call It What You Want" by Tesla I'm in love with a lady and I know The lady's in love with me. And she knows that I'll always be there. That's why she's a-willin' and ready. But now and then, ev'ry once in a while Something inside of me, maybe inside of her. Have you ever had one of those days when it all is going wrong? And it just can't seem to get along. But through it all you know you're gonna make it. Call it true love, call it not meant to be. You can call it anything at all, ya see. Call it what you want. It's all the same to me. Music means alot to me. Like love I make it when I

[dork revealer] Back in the day, my screenname was Man Out of Time (MOOT) on the Tesla section of the *Prodigy music bulletin boards. True story. My net-geekdom goes way back. [/dork revealer] Now I just need to sit back and wait for the inevitable questions from the yunguns: What's Tesla? What's Prodigy? What's a bulletin board?

Has anyone photoshopped this idea into a new avatar yet? I'm too lazy, but I think it could be most excellent.

Supposedly Paris Hilton is out of jail already!

This thread has thus far been my sole source of information on this topic, which just goes to show that even though I can somehow tune out the 24/7 wall-to-wall coverage that dominates all forms of media, if somebody posts a thread about it on VC and I have enough free time at work I'm bound to click on it eventually. I'm just going with the herd. I blame society. And Wilco. -

Kudos to the officers in the front seat for keeping a straight face for the camera. -
or maybe you just don't see 'em hanging around so much because they've already been deported.

My bad. Happy Friday!

I'd like to believe this, I really would. I worry, however, that a precedent has been set in terms of administrative conduct regarding the extension of executive power and re-writing the rulebook to accommodate it and remove oversight. Voters (on both sides, now) are rightly pissed about it and it will undoubtedly be a major theme in the next presidential election. But I really wonder, regardless of which party finds itself in power, how easy it is going to be to put that particular genie back in the bottle.

I've never heard of any of these places. Why isn't The Loft on the list?

Hang with me here, but here's a crazy thought. With music becoming increasingly distributed digitally, I wonder about the possibility of purchasing "upgrade subscriptions".(similar to a piece of software--say, your antivirus software or something) Buy a song/album and it comes with "free upgrades/re-releases" for X amount of time, at the end of which time you can opt to extend your subscription (for a fee, of course) to cover future re-releases. I'm really not sure if I like that thought...just figured I'd throw it out there for you guys to tear apart and say what a terrible idea it is.

The ?uestlove/John Paul Jones/Ben Harper thing is vaguely interesting and I'd probably want to check it out just to see it, but I'd probably end up making my way over to go see Medeski/Martin.
