  1. I am not one of the lucky with an advanced copy. I am working on what I remember from the streaming. I read this in the review. Is this from Black Moon "I was always right about the morning, OK I am an old shoe"
  2. I should have been more clear as to what I was referencing. The point is that this isnt YHF, it The Whole Love, and holding one album to the standard of another isn't right. If they wanted to remake YHF I believe they could. The line "The Whole Love isn't a Yankee Hotel Foxtrot freakout or mad gasp of creative freedom" completely misses the point of the album. It wasn't intended to be a YHF freakout. It is what it is. If critics, or fans for that matter, want to hold an artist or artists to their ideal past work it isn't a review, it is a comparative analysis. That is the point I believe
  3. Thanks, civic opera house tickets go on sale wedday, and I havnt used front gate in a year. Made sure I am set to go at 10 am.
  4. I don't think I have ever read a review that missed the point as badly as this guy did.
  5. Even more eerie is the fact that it aired on one sunday morning. The eeriness.
  6. My first thought would be what is the problem with people named Jay but when I got sane I think I would ask why isn;t Hotel Arizona played at more live shows.
  7. I thought it was a nice diversion. It took a lot of listens though. It kind of breaks things up, like a palate cleansing slice of lemon during a big dinner. It takes some of th intensity that leads up to and includes Open Mind, gives you a fresh start, and sorts you out for the intensity that is coming at the end. You can't sustain the intensity that starts with Art of Almost through a song like One Sunday Morning. The bizarre noises in the song, the fact the guy can't call with a subway token but it doesnt matter because the phones are all broken, brings on a great turn of the century , Wo
  8. Can't wait for the vinyl version. Upgraded the turntable in anticipation. Read an interview on here somewhere that the vinyl version of One Sunday Morning runs two minutes longer. And there is a bonus song. Plus I have a feeling that some of the real layered songs, Art of Almost, Black Rain, Open Mind, Red Rising Lung, Whole Love, and One Sunday Morning will reveal sounds that I have yet to experience.
  9. And happy to see Impossible Germany still on the setlist. Love nels feature songs.
  10. Thanks for the post. Had tix., gave them up for a charit auction with thought that no one would want them, scored more than anyone thought, so proud, but needed the justification. Was hoping for Art of Almost up front. Cant wait until December 1213 in Chicago. Buying two sets, one for whatever charity deserves, then if not whatever fan from via needs, and one just for me. Thanks again.
  11. Ihave to wait until December 12. Not a lot of pity here. Had a charity auction for a great cause, gave up ind and madison tix, did better than I thought, but need to know opener from first show. Not a spoiler if you are months away and gave up tix for a good cause.
  12. And one other thought on this song. When I first heard it it was a skip track. Now it is a replay. Reminds me of old REM stuff. The first REM song on the first five or six albums was like a warning shot. They opened with it on tour, it set the tone of the album, and it was always classic. Like I said, first couple times I hit skip, now I hit replay.
  13. Thanks for everyone's help. I was literally stunned by the outpouring of support.
  14. I remember a hilarious rant at a show I was at about Jay Farrar and Jeff running into each other in Mexico ending with Jeff saying he found out he was allergic to the sun. I am sure it is not a plot, there is a subset of the population is unhappy with the sun. What a great song.
  15. Boredom is the last defense of pretense. Everone is entitled to their opinion, but this album is beautiful in every way. In no way wil I diminish anyone's opinion, because music is in the ear of the beholder, but this album can take a grey day and make it sunny. There is something about this record that just puts a smile on my face.
  16. Couldn't agree more. Misunderstood is like the tornado warning siren that lets the listener know this album will blow you away.
  17. Great analogy. Agree REM post Bill Berry was never REM again. Things change, so do I, and the things that change with me stay with me, those that don't are fond memories that cant be replicated.
  18. And I know I wont be the last, Cold Captain tied to the mast.....
  19. Throw in the last s for savings, and you can turn inane into insane.
  20. This is the song that made me order a new turntable. I have an old linear tracking one, but after listening to this song acouple of times I need better equipment. This song is beautiful. I got 8 minutes of issues, then only four minutes of accoustic bliss to sort it all out. I have been ripped to shreds in other topics saying this is the best wilco album ever, and maybe the best album of the last 100 years, but I have to stand by that. How an album can end with a song this haunting and beautiful and not be classic is beyond me. Just my opinion, before the hyper agressiveboard crowd comes
  21. A great family, Wilco fans one and all, needs help. My daughter's best friend was sleeping over, and my daughter and her were going to the zoo with my daughter's friends cousin. She never went. The cousin, one or two at the time, had what they thought was a stroke. It turned out to be a disease that also affected her brother. The dad is a tradesman laid off for a couple years. The mom worked at Borders, which also covered their insurance. The bottom line is these are good people in bad straits. Sunday, September 11, at Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park is a fundraiser that may make t
  22. The thing I am most looking forward to on December 12, provided I can get tickets, is Born Alone. There is a sort of sense of electricity in the air when Nels is about to go off during Impossibe Germany. Born Alone allows Nels and Glen to both tear it up, and the end of that song should be a jawdropper live.
  23. Way off topic but I would love to hear "No Sense in Loving." That is a great Jeff song
  24. I think once people absorb this masterpiece it may be ood to go back and listen to everything from YHF on. The Whole Love is pure genius, and this will be borne out by multiple listens, but everything that came before led to this. IF Wilco The Album was a sonic shoulder to cry on, Whole Love is a sonic smile to rely upon. Whole Love will go down as one of best albums of last century, but I can see why what preceeded it was important asto how they got here. This album istruly inspiring.
