  1. I'm not a big Palin fan, but Seward was a member of Lincoln's cabinet, had always been a big proponent of expansion, and negotiated the purchase. Did she say it was done while Lincoln was alive. As a holdover as Secretary of State, is it really a misstatement to say that he was a member of Lincoln's cabinet. Lincoln appointed him in that position, right? I mean, find something worthwhile to call her out on instead of splitting hairs. Of course, it's pretty sad that Sarah Palin's resignation is the topic of conversation with Obama bungling every foreign policy statement he makes (Hondura
  2. I can't recall a single Wilco album that didn't hook me right away. Over time, they either de-grow on me (SBS) or flourish over time (all the rest). After a month, it's still too early to tell, but this album has definitely stayed with me and different songs have emerged as my favorite at one time or another. So it's looking good so far.
  3. Aside from the top two and the last one, this order will often fluctuate: 1. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 2. A Ghost is Born 3. Being There 4. Wilco (the album) 5. Summerteeth 6. A.M. 7. Sky Blue Sky
  4. I never thought I would read the phrase "rising from the ashes" as many times as I have over the last few days. Especially since Wilco's career has more than doubled UT's.
  5. It looks like I'm the exception to the rule with the preorder through Nonesuch. I ordered the 7" and the album on vinyl on June 17. I got an email that my order shipped on June 24. And it was waiting for me on Friday afternoon. I wonder if the day people ordered it on makes a difference, although I have a feeling that I ordered later than a lot of folks on here.
  6. I actually thought they hit the nail on the head with that review. I personally like the album better than that, but the review echoes my sentiments about the album exactly.
  7. That's amazing that happened to you. My box was on my front porch this afternoon. Album and single packaged together.
  8. I ordered the album and the single at the same time, and I got an email yesterday that my order had shipped. I don't know why that would make much of a difference other than they shipped them at the same time, which I was fully expecting.
  9. I'm still unable to access this site at work, so my posting and visitation is way down (I'm sure everyone is disappointed). I keep getting the "Content Encoding Error - The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression." It started with the switch to the new board, but I can't be certain that IT at work didn't do something either. It would happen to be quite a coincidence, though. My efforts to circumvent it have been unsuccessful. It happens in both browsers for me, so I'm sure there is some kind of setting or board attribute t
  10. I saw a rig behind me near the middle of the venue. Looking forward to hearing this show again.
  11. It could work with "Conan," though.
  12. I know. I read that review and got to the bottom and fully expected to see nothing higher than a "C-"...and he gave it a "B"??? Oh well. I disagree with the review. I'm not sure what he is looking for from Nels, but I think his playing on this album is great. They know how to really use his skills without it feeling tacked on like it did for a lot of SBS.
  13. I have only been able to access the site from home on my Mac. At work, it never loads and gives me some kind of can't display page message due to a compression issue or something like that. (Sorry, I really don't remember.) I use Firefox at work.
  14. I actually think this has been a really strong year for music. Hombre Lobo is the first album I've been disappointed in.
  15. I've only listened to it a few times, but so far I am disappointed. I actually thought the Pitchfork review hit on a lot of things that are bothering me about it.
  16. Thanks Solace! I have been forced to play a lot of Free Cell at work this past work. It's nice to have VC back.
  17. Is that the first time they have played "I'll Fight"? How did it sound?
  18. There is a really good interview on AV Club with Pete Docter (director of Up).
  19. The most recent time I used Paypal did not go well at all (it was actually my wife) so I have tried to swear off of using it. I would be more than happy to send a check, though. I'm trusting that way. Would this be an option? Would setting up a PO Box be too much trouble?
  20. Definitely agree with this. Not that I minded what Nels brought to the table before, but I do think they have figured out ways to use him more effectively than just pasting a solo on the end or in the middle.
  21. I gave him a thumbs up or +1 or whatever, but it seems those have been taken away. I haven't heard Son Volt's album yet, so I couldn't comment, but I agree with a lot of what was said about Wilco's album.
  22. I figured he was, but it was just funny to me that he would just refer to him as "Chet." Maybe I just don't pay enough attention to who is reviewing what on these various internet sites. It always seems like a new name. Plus, with a newspaper background, I hate seeing that kind of thing in any kind of publication. BTW, I have also been listening to a lot of Bennett-era Wilco and decided to finally go back to W(TA). It sounded just as good to me today as it did last week.
