  1. I couldn't believe my eyes - a solid lineout! Whatever next? Blair looks like the assured sort of player we need. Saw Llanelli on digital BBC2 yesterday also, but that was a game of fits and starts. Apparently Cardiff at Saracens will be shown the same way next Sunday - 'BBC2 digital interactive' - press red button when at normal digital BBC2.
  2. I know what you're going through. Try and keep it together for your Dad's sake, and seek comfort in your family and the fond memories. Andrew
  3. Wow, that's like a critical mass of pre-performance nerves. I feel anxious myself just thinking about it
  4. I think it was. It's certainly not the show it was without Simon what's his face. I'm lucky if I scan it whilst having a Saturday morning cuppa. NP:
  5. Saw half of them on some TV interview the other day. They seemed so dull and lifeless I have no desire to pursue their music any further than the roughly a third of the first album that was borderline OK for me. P.S. Any personel epiphany on the Midlake issue whilst on holiday?
  6. The first I've never heard of, the second seemed like alot of fun live (judging by TV festival coverage this summer - occassional Mum on spoons!) but I'm not sure how well it would translate to the staid confines of an album. I actually just missed them after the VC Elbow Summit in March made it late out from the pub (they were first in a 4 act night).
  7. Sure it wasn't just a nine beat count-in? Also, how was MMJ at the Astoria - weren't you planning on going?
  8. That's a big burrito. Is it like one of those Redwoods at Sequoia? So you did hook up at the clock yesterday after all?
  9. Am I the only person who always smiles whenever I hear this? I'm a sucker for some sleigh bells. And, judging from this, a simpleton. AM - don't have it. I know the ones I like from live shows, but have not heard all to choose a least favourite. This is intentional. To buy it now would be to admit an addiction. Far, Far Away Unwelcome Guest (that's a tough call) How To Fight Loneliness Airline to Heaven I Am Trying To Break Your Heart (obvious, but no less affecting every time I hear it) Muzzle Of Bees
  10. We have a similar saying for rugby (N.B. rugby union in Wales has entirely different connotations than in England - not sure where it is in the Australian class system - maybe more like rugby league in Australia). I get to watch some Aussie Rules from time to time over here on odd TV spots. I used to work with a couple of people from Melbourne, which is Aussie Rules central, is it not? Do they still have those annual Gaelic Football v. Aussie Rules matchespunchups? I only saw a few years ago. Now that was entertaining!
  11. "one of those incredible gigs that stay with you for long long time" Great when that happens (especially as you're a big fan and he can be a bit unpredictable?). I'll check out the photos at home tonight.
  12. What happened to that film where you were an extra next to Mr Sheen? (I am remembering that right - it was you?) Has it been released yet?
  13. Maybe I can get a shuffle on part - I'm feeling like a zombie today.
  14. I can't think of the 70s as one decade to be viewed as a whole. Not with the big fault line that opened up around 1976/7, and all the consequent arguments between the Zeppelin/Floyd/Yes crowd and the New Wave that rose up against it. There was a definite them and us situation between our year at school and the previous year. I'm still too affected to listen to Pink Floyd and the like Before New Wave hit, I had gone back to the 60s and early 70s for Beatles/Stones/Faces for the majority of my listening.
  15. Maybe not, but I know what you mean. Don't put your back out reaching some of those pots near the back.
  16. Wanted: Man with broken hand. Must be able to snear. Hatred for the English and/or Russians a plus. Napoleon Bonaparte impersonator?
  17. If that were to happen, I would have to stay the week. Have you seen this yet:- http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/200...gi?show=artists It's free you jammy buggers! Elvis C, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch, Billy Bragg, not to mention the reason I heard about it/mentioned it to you in the first place: EMMYLOU. That would be some week. Rocket fuel for the soul. I have been swooning over some of the hard copy photos from Cambridge that arrived today.
  18. It would be an insult to the sport? Any event has to be pretty dull that you have to resort to a Mexican Wave (called that here too - probably because it was first widely seen at the Mexico World Cup in 84?). I'd say generally you wouldn't want to knock over an Aussie Rules fan's pint. Never seen one at a rugby match either.
  19. What about the national sport? Can a Welshman be a pom? When I'm in full on rugby mode, just the word "English" is enough of an insult. Heard last November in the stands: "Is the ref English?" "No, he's South African" "Well he's acting like a f__king Englishman!"
  20. Ms Y, I think you missed this during your enforced sabbatical:- http://archive.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=22803 There are a few YouTube goodies posted half way through the thread, but some seem to have been removed. Thank goodness this survives:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEe40SJtQns...athan%20richman We kept you a piece of cake from the party for a while, but the birds had it in the end.
