THANKS!! -
"Star Wars" out of the gates & Warren sitting in on "California Stars" (saw him, & better yet, Ian Hunter, sit in with them in NJ on the AmericanaramA tour)- sounds like it was a great night!! And this makes me just that much more excited about the Cleveland & Ithaca shows in September!! I hope the folks here thinking about going, went...curious to hear from them.

We'll know pretty soon... hoping for that too... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt8F1F1mVpg

But a risk he's chosen to undertake before & even more so. RememberTweedy took out the new material from a double album debut to festival crowds & played all new, unfamiliar stuff in a much riskier situation- no free download out there, no brand name of "Wilco" to help things, a longer run of new music (12 to 13 songs totaling closer to 45 minutes) & new music that was, comparatively, of a more subdued nature (though, for the record, I think "Suikierae" is amazing & the songs he chose from it were a varied & eclectic bunch of wonders...just less rollicking, "out of the gat

Right On!...and... Right On! I've given up trying to rank them, but I'm still a huge champion of the severely underrated "Wilco (The Album)". When I saw Jeff solo, at the all-request benefit show a year or two ago, the person I was standing next to in line & I compared notes & both of our top requests were for "Everlasting Everything". When Jeff played it he noted that none other than Bill Fay had told him that he thought it was the best song he'd ever written. I also agree that "Solitaire" is one of his greatest songs ever. And let me put in a word for "Deeper Down" here as well, sinc

120 minutes (as opposed to the usual 75-90 for a "Festival Set" makes a real difference) that makes a pretty big difference. They could much more easily come out & do what Jeff did with Tweedy at Festivals last year, & what they did at Pitchfork, which is open with the new material. If not, then 2 hours also gives them plenty of room to shuffle in a whole lot (maybe all) of the new album into the set. If I was thinking about it, this factor would push me back over the fence towards going!! So you all take that for what you will, but I hope to hear happy reports back about the sonic

'Request A Song' Is Not Working on wilcoworld.net
linclink replied to Craig Borders's topic in Just A Fan
My strategy for Cleveland & Ithaca as well... you know what they say about great minds thinking alike- wonder how many others are doing the same? Hopefully more than a few & the message will land..if so, I bet that's gratifying...and it just looked like playing that full thing had then really energized. As others have noted, it really worked a cohesive piece incredibly well. And it's relatively short @ 35 minutes or so. Well we, & I'm sure many others are hoping that they continue that choice... -

I want an option/choice for "play 'Star Wars' from start to finish!" !! Like at the Pitchfork Fest!! -
I just checked it out, & despite my rather crappy computer sound system... it sounded at least as good on the download...my bet is that this might be where the youtube post comes from anyways...

5 Stars (out of 5) from The Independent, "Even by Wilco’s adventurous standards, Star Wars is possibly the most unusual, exploratory work of the band’s existence." http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/reviews/wilco-star-wars--album-review-jeff-tweedy-throws-down-the-gauntlet-with-a-radical-take-on-americana-10412763.html 9 (out of 10) from Drowned In Sound: "You might surmise from the above that Star Wars is a bit of a hodgepodge of styles, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Everything sounds fresh, new and different, but every song is still recognisably Wilco; it j

Now you can sing along live! Wilco's "Star Wars" LIVE!!! Right after Wilco released their new album, "Star Wars", for free, they headlined the Pitchfork Music Festival in their hometown of Chicago & opened the show by playing the whole new album, start to finish. Someone uploaded their Pitchfork Fest (July 17th) performance of the complete new album...Enjoy!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt8F1F1mVpg And for anyone that hasn't gotten this already, here is the download of the full Pitchfork performance: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wby5udgdbe7n923/Wilco%20-%202015-07-17%20Pitchfork%20Music

And maybe I'm wrong, since I don't think anyone else has mentioned this, but... it appears that Jeff is looking quite a bit healthier & leaner here & now. Anyhow, here we go... 4 & 1/2 stars (out of 5) from Rolling Stone! "In the album's most carefree moments, of which there are many, he sounds at home in himself — never an easy move for one of rock's top chroniclers of midlife man-malaise. "I belong to the stars in the sky," he sings on "Random Name Generator," making a blues boast out of spacey poesy and totally pulling it off. Give it up for the man. He's got the Force by the spaceballs." http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/wilco-star-wars-20150724

As the number of reviews increases, "Star Wars" score (85) on metacritic is going up & up... now above even "The Whole Love" (83), even with "The Mermaid Ave. Session" & "Kicking Television: Live In Chicago" & just behind "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" (87)...pretty impressive. Other scores: "Sky Blue Sky" (73), "Wilco (The Album" (76), "A Ghost Is Born" (81)... Things over at rateyourmusic.com are still pretty much the opposite... oddly enough (since the user rating at metacritic is 8.6)

Let me know if you need to get rid of that Ithaca ticket Yaz Rock... I'm assuming that the show will sell out & I know quite a few folks who I'm betting will be looking for tickets. For me it was that, as self-confessed non-tech friendly dinosaur myself (working on desktop to get this done), I had selected my tickets, but saw nothing to "checkout" or "continue", eventually I figured out you had to click on the actual type of ticket you'd selected... but I discovered this by chance. I ended up with 4 10th row tickets for Ithaca & 2 general admission floor for Cleveland, so all's well

I'm glad to see the mostly positive reviews, but think overall the album is still being fairly consistently underrated. One's ever evolving subjective relationship to the work is really the bottom line, & I think history will be ever kinder to this one than the current reviews are. There are two places where you can rate it & have your vote count- metacritic & rate your own music. So, if you are so inclined, stop over & weigh in, if you already haven't... Anyhow, it's showing up on the metacritic radar now, with 12 reviews weighing in for a very respectable score of 83 (out o

Just wanted to thank you so much for your efforts here. After a few listens, more & more lyrics come through, but this makes an aspect of engaging with the song that I adore, a much easier task. Way to go Brother Kyle!

Ithaca is in the middle of the week in late September- don't know your flexibility/schedule etc. ... but that's 5 hours from you, but it looks like the next closest, or you just gotta wait it out until the next leg of the tour & see if you get anything near you then. The State Theater is an absolutely amazing venue for music. Incredible sound, capacity of 1600 with not a bad seat in the house & tickets will likely be $40-50. And if you can spend anytime (sick day?), Ithaca is a very cool & very beautiful place/area. Tweedy played there & I believe Jeff said he ended up buying a

And here's what you get for signing up... "Thank you for signing up. Click below to download an exclusive free Roadcase from the St. Augustine show on May 1st, 2015."- mp3 version BTW

Heads up there's a few typos here. I noticed because I'm going to see Nels & Julian in Ithaca, NY & probably Erie, PA too & those are Oct. 23rd & 24th (here it looks like the 24th & 27th). I think something happened with listing North Hampton wrong...things get right again I tried to copy from his website & it came out screwy here too... Here's a link to the dates http://nelscline.com/shows

Lucky Austin with the double. My only regret is that Yo La Tengo is opening their tour in Troy, NY on Sept. 23rd, but I'll see them on Sept. 30th in Toronto (& maybe with Nick Lowe on Oct. 10 in NYC). So it's both fairly nearby Ithaca, NY & close enough Cleveland, OH (especially if friends from Buffalo drive!). And then hope the usual nice 3 night run in the NYC area later in the Autumn. That should do just fine!! And in between the two Wednesday shows in September are The Feelies playing two gigs in the NYC area on Sept 19 & 20 (Monty Hall in Jersey City on Sat. & Storm King

Glad to see some excellent reviews here... sadly it's not fairing so well over at rateyourmusic.com, where it's currently the lowest rated regular Wilco release ever (only "Wilco The Book" & "Mermaid Ave. Vol. III" are lower)?!?! Go figure, eh? https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/wilco
