  1. i saw him open for Ben Harper this summer and it was just ehhhh. he seems to be trying too hard to be Woody Guthrie or 60's-era Bob Dylan... biggest response of the night was when he played Guerilla Radio...
  2. he sounded pretty good when i saw him on the Sam and Dave tour a few years back... couldn't hit the high notes, but otherwise was pretty solid... not sure if there was magic involved, though...
  3. Wayne and the FLips are going to be the grand marshals at the Halloween parade here in OKC...
  4. well, THAT makes up for the fact he canceled a sold-out show with no rescheduled date.
  5. heh. yeah, well, there's that... but you can't deny the leader in BA, RBI, hits, doubles...
  6. fellow Okie, Matt Holliday... MVP! dudez got mad skillz...
  7. hmm... i've got a ticket to the Tulsa show next month... it's sold out - i paid $40 for it and could probably get double... may have to make some money on this deal... i thought he may have cleaned up his hissy-fits on this tour, but apparently not...
  8. actually some pretty good live bands on the bill... Iggy, QOTSA, RATM, Muse, Blonde Redhead, Mastodon, Thievery Corp., Ghostland Observatory...
  9. they seem to have a lot of fun playing up on stage...
  10. it was kind of sad to see the thousands of people streaming out of the ACL Festival a few songs into Dylan's set... what's even sadder is i wish i would've been one of them... but i will say his band is spectacular and Dylan's voice did somewhat warm up halfway into the set, but it was still a turn-off for many, many people... and i have never seen a cloud of pot smoke go up so quick as it did when he started the set with Rainy Day Women!
  11. i saw BRMC a few months back in a headlining show and they were great - well over 2 hours! and Michael Been (The Call), Robert's dad, played some keys on one song... he's from here in OKC, and there were other family members in the audience, too... KOL has a bunch of family here in Oklahoma, too (2 of KOL were born in OKC), and the times i've seen them here they've been fairly nervous since all the family were around... they put on a good show, though! sounds like a cool double-bill!
  12. hmmm... i'm supposed to see them tomorrow night w/Cross Canadian Ragweed... maybe i can scalp a cheap ticket... it seems like there's a revolving door in the band now - some new member every year or so...
  13. last weekend, tropical storm Erin re-formed over central Oklahoma... one of the craziest weather things i've ever seen... there was even an eye of the storm... 5" of rain at our house in a few hours creates torn-up carpet, thrown-away wet padding, and wet-vaccing a few bedrooms... but it could've been worse like it was a county away with all the flooding/tornadoes... hope everyone else is high-and-dry! or at least drying out...
  14. so what's your take on the Sonics possibly moving here to OKC? i'm all for it in a selfish way, but would also be sad to see the NBA leave there after 40 years...
  15. if you like the funkier side of soul, look for something on Desco Records or Soul Fire Records - they're somewhat recent labels that have put out new soul/funk that sounds old... Lee Fields, Whitefield Brothers, JD And The Evil's Dynamite Band, Calypso King And The Soul Investigators, The Fabulous Three... good stuff...
  16. went to the balloon fest in Lisle instead of Ribfest - Dennis DeYoung was good! nice to re-live your youth sometimes... that was a good festival - good for the folks, good for us... and great weather! much better than the flooding i left in Oklahoma... and saw the best ending to a baseball game i've ever seen at the Cubs/Brewers Friday afternoon! walk-off homerun! got a bleacher seat right at gametime, grabbed some PBR and a dog, and had a blast... the bleachers are kinda crazy though, huh?
  17. i actually have seen him many years ago at a small club - we were sat at a table right by the stage and he came down into the audience to play and stood right next to us and played a solo, the whole time looking down one of our friends' dress!
  18. c'mon... who can resist some BBQ and "baaaad to the bone"? yeah, i know... i'm just trying to find things to do with my folks while i'm visiting my brother and this seemed somewhat harmless!
  19. i mean, c'mon... BBQ and George Thorogood this weekend? sounds good to me! anybody been to one of these things? what's it like? i'll be up in Downers Grove visiting this week and it's either that or the balloon fest in Lisle w/Dennis DeYoung, which might not be that half-bad...
  20. heading up to Chicago next week w/my folks to visit my brother... Santa Fe later in the summer to visit my cousin... that's probably it since my wife lost her job last week and funds will be limited - ugh!
  21. Boyd Coddington was there - he'll get his American Hot Rod crew on the job!
  22. last night in Tulsa was pretty good - they opened for the Black Keys. i'm not too familiar with Dinosaur Jr's music, but they played Feel the Pain and a few off their new one I recognized. they didn't play Start Choppin, which i hoped they would have... they came on late, apologized for being late - they got to Cain's 5 minutes before they went on stage... they said they had no time to make a setlist and had no idea how long they could play... they only played 45 minutes, though...and it wasn't as loud as i thought it'd be... i love how Lou Barlow plays the bass - he's more like a rhythm guita
  23. wow! got nothing to add to Clay's review - he pretty much summed up the night pretty good... it's just a blast to see a band who you feel is on the verge of something big in such a small place... the band was having a blast, the crowd was really into it - i was a little worried since it was a Sunday night show in a college town in summer, but it turned out to be a great night! but having to get up about 4 hours after you get to sleep and go to work is not a good thing...
