  1. Actually, it looks to me like the end of that Freebird solo they were talking about in the Epic Guitar Solo thread ...
  2. I love all the Grateful Dead and Allman Bros. stuff you hippie freaks are tossing out, but don't forget that they can peacefully coexist with one Frank Zappa, Inca Roads, You Can't Do That Onstage Anymore, Vol. II. That is epic-ness defined!
  3. Ace Frehley played the solo on Been Caught Stealing!?
  4. To return to the topic: I think the monkey in Uncle Wilco's avatar is playing Cold Gin.
  5. That Pacman video pretty much sums up how I feel when I hear [C]rap.
  6. I just listened to that old solo album a couple months ago. It wasn't as great as I'd remembered, but it was still pretty darn good. Glad he's still around.
  7. I still remember my first response to that Rolling Stone cover with the phone in her hand. Yowzah! Look at her now, though. It's pretty damn sad.
  8. Jeff sang the harmony on it on the Uncle Tupelo version, I think. Actually, I like Jeff better than anybody else on that list.
  9. I wonder how Charlie Louvin ever even found out who Jeff Tweedy is. I suspect it may have started from people coming up to him after shows and saying, "Wow, thanks for playing that Uncle Tupelo song Atomic Power. I love that tune!"
  10. Oh man, and I was just being a smartass in that response. I can see I'm not going to get out of this thread alive. In the words of the immortal King Arthur, "Run away, run away!"
  11. Ah, yes, in the Anna Nicole thread. Well, I hardly think Britney is a good role model for a child, but at least if she's sobering up she's got a shot at not being a complete shithead for whatever remains of her life. Also, as trashy as she's been, I'd hardly put her in the same column as that gold-digging stripper Anna Nicole. Britney = whorish Anna Nicole = actual whore See the distinction?
  12. Good for her. I hope she's had enough and can come out the other side of this. Say what you will about her, she's got kids who need a mother, and I can't imagine Fed-ex is going to be much good as a father ...
  13. Here's an old one I added recently to my blog. Feel free to drop by with comments, suggestions, love offerings, etc. Autumnal Dawn crinkles open above the Nova Scotia shoreline, raising my eyes to distant trees the color of rolled rusted wire, as I stand beneath these looming cliffs, squinting against the sky .... I am tired of pulling on boots in the dirty-grey morning, and of watching these rising waters beating down the dust of well-wrought days, and of grinning clamdiggers waving from docks along the quay .... And dusk comes slow on this shoreline: the lights of Halifax are far awa

  15. Hunter and Kurt Vonnegut were two of the people most responsible for me wanting to become a writer. I was a teenager, and couldn't believe you could actually get paid to be so irreverent, weird and rude. I used to love to turn people on to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and it was especially fun to see their reactions to the catalogue of drugs that was in the trunk of the big Shark. Hilarious. The "Back Door Beauty?" scene in that book is one of the funniest things ever written. In later years, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Hunter was friends with Warren Zevon (another madman/g
  16. I always focused on: I'm down on my hands and knees Every time the doorbell rings I shake like a toothache When I hear myself sing That shows the speaker has more than just a profound (if temporary) disconnect with those around him. He literally seems afraid to deal with people, to the point where he is willing to hide so they'll think he's not home. That's how I always read it, anyway.
  17. Gracias. Of course, you'll note the presence of a certain Jerome Garcia on there...
  18. I like the solo JT versions of Reservations, but the instrumental finale of the studio version dragged On And On And On.Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
